This forms the basis for Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine and SmartEnergy visions.
Part of the Wärtsilä Group, Wärtsilä South Africa (Pty) Ltd. is partly owned by the Engineering Students OwnershipTrust, with its beneficiaries all being final year black students from theEngineering department at theNelson Mandela University.
The Trust makes up 25% of the entity’sownership. Wärtsilä South Africa (Pty)Ltd. recently employed 7 engineeringgraduates with the aim of growing thelocal expertise in the country.
The company’s objective is to increase its pool of engineers with competent, qualified local experts – young black individuals – with the aim of training and developing their technical and leadership skills to further their careers and opportunities in the Wärtsilä Group.

More than 25 percent of the national electricity supply in more than 25 of the continent’s countries is produced by Wärtsilä technologies.
