OUR TEAM EMPLOYS BOTH TIME-HONORED TECHNIQUES AND CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY TO ENSURE EVERY DESIGN IS BROUGHT TO LIFE WITH EXQUISITE CRAFTSMANSHIP, INFUSED WITH RICH NARRATIVES, AND UPHOLDS A COMMITMENT TO QUALITY, INNOVATION AND DESIGN.
SAND CASTING
ABRASIVE BLASTING
BENCHMADE
Sand casting produces metal parts from a sand mold or pattern. Our skilled pattern makers create a design, which is placed into a mixture of sand and clay, before pressure is applied. The pattern is then removed, leaving a cavity in the sand into which molten metal is poured. When the metal cools and solidifies, it produces an exact replica of the original pattern.
Abrasive blasting is traditionally used to smooth rough surfaces, add texture to plain surfaces, and to carve or shape materials. The process involves a stream of abrasive material (such as sand or metallic beads) which is propelled against a surface under high pressure. We use this blasting technique to create an aged or distressed finish on our wooden pieces.
Benchmade pieces are made by hand; painstakingly created one at a time by a single master craftsman, traditionally on a carpenter’s bench. This technique produces pieces that are unique, meticulously finished, and heirloom-like, built to stand the test of time.
MARQUETRY
LOST WAX CASTING
Marquetry is an age-old technique that uses inlaid materials to create decorative patterns. Thin pieces of wood, marble, metal, bone or shells are cut to shape and inlaid into a wooden veneer, and then applied to a base.
Lost wax casting is a process by which metal parts are produced from a wax sculpture or pattern. The original wax pattern is dipped in multiple layers of mold materials, producing a hard shell into which molten metal is poured. The wax is displaced by the molten metal, which hardens into the cast part as it cools. The mold is then removed, revealing the final casting for trimming, polishing and finishing. Lost wax casting, is also known as investment casting or precision casting, because it is extremely accurate in replicating complex shapes and details.
VERRE EGLOMISE
MULTI-STEP FINISHING
From the French term meaning “gilded glass, verre eglomise describes the delicate process in which the rear surface of glass is applied with thin sheets of gold or silver leaf. These sheets are cut to various shapes and sizes, and then applied to the glass to produce the desired decorative pattern.
Our craftsmen follow a multi-step finishing process, which is integral to the integrity and overall quality of a piece. It is a time-consuming process which may involve a combination of toning, staining, glazing, sealing, and lacquering. The result is furniture that is more durable, richer, consistent in colour, and more impressive overall.

THE JAMES NEW YORK – NOMAD FORMERLY THE CARLTON HOTEL Our team collaborated with influential New York-based, Danishborn, architect Thomas Juul Hansen on furniture for all 344 rooms and public areas in this luxury hotel. Pieces were crafted in a range of specialist finishes and materials such as marble, walnut, brass and wrought iron to capture a warm, modern, residential aesthetic; at the same time complimenting the classic, Beaux-Arts architectural detailing. The brass minibar cabinet in each room epitomises this blending of old and new, and is a testament to our exceptional craftsmanship, innovative product development and world-class manufacturing. The cabinet, which pays homage to vintage radios, is almost entirely constructed from brass, adding dimension, character and romance to an otherwise conventional hotel room appliance. Industrial aspects of the design, including an intricately handwrought tubular frame and mesh panels, are juxtaposed beautifully with etched glass shelves and LED edge lighting.

THE BEEKMAN, A THOMPSON HOTEL Described as one of New York City’s most exceptional landmarks, The Beekman is located in a once-abandoned site in lower Manhattan, surrounded by some of the city’s most beloved and iconic attractions. Our team worked alongside prestigious design firm Martin Brudnizki on developing products, crafting unique finishes and sourcing exceptional materials for the landmark 287 room hotel. Antiqued burl walnut, hand hewn oak, industrial iron and opulent marble are just a few of the materials that were used to bring Brudnizki’s vision to life. The result is over 4,000 exceptional vintage and bespoke pieces; an incredible array of styles and finishes which reflect the rich architectural history of the building. While much of the furniture stays true to the building’s Victorian heritage, other pieces represent a fusion of different periods, deliberately mismatched: a 20’s lamp sits alongside a mid-century bedside table, which sits next to a contemporary desk. In total, more than 67 styles of bespoke hotel furniture were produced for the project.

HOTEL PULITZER AMSTERDAM With a history that dates back four centuries, Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam is one of the city’s most treasured architectural and cultural icons. Approaching this ambitious project, our team worked closely with renowned designer, Jacu Strauss, and the Pulitzer Hotel in-house design team, to produce pieces that reflect both the hotel’s unique heritage and contemporary Dutch design. There are four themed suites (the Book Collector’s, Art Collector’s, Antique Collector’s and Music Collector’s) - a nod to the hotel’s past residents – each of the 230 bedrooms also has its own special touch. In addition to unique headboards that take on the distinct shape of the rooflines in Amsterdam, our craftsmen also hand-produced exquisite, custom-designed art deco trolleys to house modern mini-bars.

MONDRIAN, LONDON Situated on the banks of the Thames and occupying the space within Sea Containers House, the first Mondrian branded hotel in London represents a successful collaboration with Tom Dixon and McLaren Furniture. Our team worked intimately with Dixon’s Design Research Studio for more than 2 years on developing the highly intensive project, and production of bespoke furniture for all 360 rooms. A high degree of technical knowledge and expertise was required to produce the signature high-gloss (piano finish) black lacquer finish featured on many of the pieces. The results speak for themselves: a fusion of cutting edge design and 1920’s elegance, which juxtapose beautifully with the transatlantic maritime history of the building.

SEXY FISH, LONDON A high-profile haunt for the rich and famous, Sexy Fish is the newest addition to renowned restaurateur Richard Caring’s portfolio. The opulent, old-school glamour, high-end extravagance and super luxurious interiors of this Asian seafood restaurant are courtesy of Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, who was inspired by patterns and motifs of the ocean. Working alongside McLaren furniture, our team produced the second round of loose furniture for this project, including bespoke banquettes, booths and chairs in a mid-century design, which beautifully offset their surroundings: Iranian Esmeralda onyx, darkstained timber panelled walls and iconic and evocative artworks by Damien Hirst, Frank Gehry and Vanity Fair’s Michael Roberts.
