Hirschi Huskies — District 3-4A D-II
Huskies Look To RepeatMagic With New Coach
The 2021 season was remarkable for the Hirschi Huskies, just as the next two will be before the school is transitioned into a middle school. For the second time ever, Hirschi advanced all the way to the state semifinals last year. The Huskies went unbeaten in the district and then rolled through the first four games of the playoffs with wins over Pampa (42-10), Clint (53-19), Dumas (41- 22), and Springtown (32-6). The fun finally ended in the state semifinals against Stephenville (38-35), which went on to claim the title against Austin LBJ (38-21).
Coach Antonio Wiley has moved on to Coppell, replaced by former Slaton coach Lawrence Johnson. “We’re looking to continue the post-season success established last season,” said Johnson, who was 6-14 in his two seasons at Slaton. In addition to their head coach, the Huskies also saw 13 players on last year’s 12-3 team walk out the door due to graduation, among them receiver/free safety/returner Jewel Fletcher, running back/ cornerback Jaleal Minnifield, defensive tackle La’Travious Dever-Wiley and linebacker Keyshun Jackson. Seventeen players are back, including eight starters on offense and four on defense.
The veterans include two senior skill players with impressive stats. Running back A’marion Peterson (6-0, 210, 4.49) rushed for 1,817 yards and 28 TDs on 238 carries (7.6 ypc) last season, while receiver/defensive back Jamarion Carroll (6-1, 190, 4.6) caught 66 passes for 1,132 yards with 15 touchdowns. Junior end/ linebacker Javian Frazier (5-11, 210, 4.7) is the leading stat hound on defense with 69 tackles (29 TFLs, 15 sacks) a year ago. Others with some impressive numbers were sophomore quarterback/cornerback Jimmell McFalls (6-1, 175, 4.7), who incredibly, as a freshman, threw for 1,535 yards with 17 TDs and just 1 interception in shared duty with senior Terrius Causey (6-2, 170)
