“Marilyn Price packs plenty of punch through her puppets and her storytelling!”
—Dorthea Snyder
As a fine arts major at the University of Illinois, Marilyn Price had always thought of herself as a “crafty lady.” Several years later when asked by a fellow congregant at her Reconstructionist congregation to try her hand at puppetry, she eagerly agreed! She began by making and selling puppets at retail stores. Since beginning a carrer as a performer, however, Marilyn only makes and sells puppets to professional theater groups and on special order for the most special people. Now with over 100 stories in her puppet repertoire, countless others in storytelling, as well as more than 300 puppets designed with an unbelievable variety of materials and everyday objects, Marilyn Price is an authority on good storytelling. Every year she performs around 400 shows and workshops nationwide and in Canada. Since 1972 she has been telling and teaching both adults and children. Her scripts are varied but always educational, involving topics such as Judaism, science, international folktales and lore, AIDS and drugs. According to one of her fans, “She imbues her objects with a sense of human qualities and truly makes them come to life. Marilyn Price is very lively, and larger than life!” A portion of Marilyn’s royalties will be donated to the Reconstructionist Rabbinic College.
