So, let us begin. What is Torius Magazine? A shoppable magazine, a creative high fashion quarterly, a catalog of excellent brands? In my mind it is all of them, but in a unique way. Based in Los Angeles, TORIUS MAG is a unique high-tech interactive shopping luxury designer curated fashion entertainment magazine. I’m very excited to finally share my new venture with all of you. I have studied fashion design in Paris, France and lived there 7 years. During my years in Paris I was lucky enough to experience all the creativity designing and working with major French houses. After I met with my husband Steve in Paris I moved to New York. I have done NYFW with my brand and represented many international fashion brands, open Pop up shops, did PR and celebrity styling. But I always knew there was something missing in this industry especially when it came to launching a new collection. Many brands want to participate in fashion weeks and trade shows but these come with hefty costs and no promise of any return. I have decided to launch Torius Magazine with all my experiences and background in fashion to give a better platform for brands that are interested to reach direct consumers with more customized services and more exclusive offers. And give a platform to consumers to discover curated brands that are not available everywhere. In this issue we have featured amazing designers that you will really love so enjoy! THE BENEFITS OF
BATHING RITUALS
FOR BODY AND MIND
We love our bathing rituals, and not just for the obvious hygienic reasons! What we love is the ability of a bath to be a DIY health and beauty treatment all in one. According to the concoction we decide to mix with water, a bath can be detoxing, relaxing, reviving… Or all three. This is how our love affair with “bathing” began historically. Long before it became the scented bubble bath that is common now, bathing was first and foremost known as Hydrotherapy, a therapeutic treatment for body and mind. Hydrotherapy (water therapy) involves using water to ease physical pain and symptoms of illness. This can include anything from steam baths and compresses, to the use of water sprays and bathing at a range of temperatures. It is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment, initially made popular by the Romans who built baths around various hot springs and used these as a place for health and socialising. Of course baths were also beautifying, as demonstrated by Cleopatra’s penchant for skin-softening milk baths. Bathing lost its appeal in Medieval times, when the church despised the immorality of bathhouses and medical opinion actually discouraged taking baths. Astonishingly, in this time it was believed that bathing would “weaken the organism and cause infections or disease”. In Europe, bathing had a revival only in the 1800s when word spread of the therapeutic properties of salt water and people would flock to the seaside to cure all sorts of conditions. In the 19th Century, bathing scenes were also de rigueur in classicist, realist and impressionist art, and baths truly became temples of leisure. Then, in the first half of the 20th Century, some institutions
51
began installing communal baths to help treat children who had suffered muscular, skeletal and nerve damage from diseases such as tuberculosis and polio. It is only in the second half of the 20th Century that spas became the beautifying havens they are known as today. Let’s take a look at some of our favourite types of bathing rituals in more depth.
Bath & Shower Essence, a #CONTENT approved favourite. Simply pour a cap of this essential oil mixture into warm, running water and bathe for 10-15 minutes to soak up all the goodness! It is abundant in anti-viral oils like immune-supporting lemon
To soak in the benefits of Thalassotherapy at home, get a hold of some balt salts, we recommend Verdant Alchemy. Agent Nateur Holi Bath consists of coconut milk to hydrate and soothe problematic skin; pink himalayan salt helps to relieve
myrtle, warming ginger and pepper, and fortifying tangerine.
muscle soreness; and organic chamomile flowers that work to heal acne, decrease eczema and improve skin's natural glow. It’s an important ally for all skin types and the perfect antidote to stress, fatigue and jet lag.
Spiritual Bathing Rituals Make like our ancestors and burn incense while you bathe. Historically, incense has been used to uplift the spirits, heighten the senses, and bring peace and harmony to the mind. The INCAUSA Bath & Meditate Set is a bundle of four mixed handmade Breu resin, Palo Santo, White Sage, Chacrona and Jagube artisanal incense sticks. It also includes an essential oil-based vegan soap. This is a lovely option for creating your own bathing rituals at home.
Herbal Bathing Rituals The Chinese have been using medicinal herbs for over 5,000 years. Later in 1,500 BC, Ancient Egyptians and Babylonians would also take herbal baths for health and cosmetic purposes. Then, lavender became a favourite of the Romans. Today it is known that the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties of aromatic herbs are released when steeped in hot water. As a result, herbal baths can be effective remedies for relieving stress, and muscle aches and pain. They are also believed to help ease inflammatory skin issues, such as eczema and psoriasis. Fighting off a cold? Try the Therapie Roques O’Neil Protect
Salt Bathing Rituals Again, China seemed to be at the forefront of this trend in 2,700 BC when they were mining and using salt for health purposes. Later in Egypt, Cleopatra soaked in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea for a softer and smoother skin. Then in Greek times, Hippocrates promoted bath salts for their healing properties. In Europe, this became popular again in the 19th Century and has been ever since. In fact, the ocean contains all the vital trace elements, mineral salts, vitamins and amino acids we need. It is also considered that the magnesium content of sea water may have a calming effect on the nervous system, which would explain why we find sea water bathing so relaxing and restorative!

SKIN Feeling the need for a bit of glow? Ilia Beauty has a great tip for adding some luminosity and warmth to the skin… Take the llia Beauty Sheer Vivid Tinted Moisturiser SPF20 and mix with one of the Ilia Beauty Illuminators to add a healthy glow to the skin. For this look, swatch Sway Illuminator on the back of the hand and blend with a small amount of Sheer Vivid Tinted Moisturiser SPF20 Dab on the skin and blend. The product will take a few minutes to set. During this time, help even your skin with the Illia Beauty Vivid Concealer. Apply concealer under the eyes and along any area of redness or discolouration. Run Cosmic Dancer Illuminator along cheekbones and buff on with fingers or a buff brush.
EYES Accentuate the lids with Illia Beauty Silken Shadow Sticks In Between Days’ a burnt gold, and ‘Age Of Consent’, a brown, ash shimmer combined to create this Natural Makeup look. Add multiple layers of llia Beauty Mascara to the lashes. Tip: Try using the Macao which can be blending through the brows.

Duygu Sahin Master of Whimsical Prints
57
Fascinated by the progressive palette of nature, enchanted world of animals, and all things unique to life, Duygu Sahin is known for her blend of vibrant tones, maxi dresses, and long, comfy shirts. Named after her twin daughters, the designer’s most recent collection, ‘Su and Yaz’meaning ‘Water and Summer’ in English- has also been one of her most fruitful ones yet. “I’m about natural fabrics. Anything synthetic doesn’t work for me,” she says. Featuring five distinct patterns and three designs, the whole collection is made with one hundred percent cotton, and consists of 15 pieces in total. “All of the patterns feature different animals wearing one another’s natural clothing. In ‘Dogs Gone Wild,’ we see a cute doggie wearing a tiger’s pattern, or a tiger walks around in the pattern a giraffe in ‘Tiger in Giraffe.’ My shirt dresses are designed to be worn over a swimming suit as well as a cool, effortless piece for a night out in town,” Sahin adds. When asked how her brand’s story got started and has evolved, she goes: “Ever since I knew myself, I’ve been drawing doodles over anything I see around. However, since being an artist has long been considered risky, I had decided to study Economy at Bogazici University, Istanbul. As an honorary graduate, I found myself straight in corporate world and have worked in marketing for various brands, including Vogue Turkey. I was on the corporate side but somethingwhich I can now call as a breaking point- happened back then: Paris Hilton has worn the evil eyepatterned white, sleeveless shirt I’ve designed during one of Vogue Turkey’s cover shoots, which was shot by famous photographer Terry Richardson.
“I design for women who aren’t afraid to speak their mind or stand out in public. Instead of being anonymous, they would rather want to be noticed while feeling comfortable in whatever they wear.”
TOR I US M A G A Z I N E
59
This encouraged me to study more into the subject and I flew to London to study Digital Print Design in Central Saint Martins. Soon after that, I’ve launched my namesake brand in Istanbul in 2016.” As a joyful designer, Duygu is very much into collaborations which play a central role in her brand’s story. So, it is not surprising that one of her biggest dreams is to design scarves for Hermès as part of a collaboration or to work with H&M on a capsule collection to reach out to the masses on a global scale. “As for the high-end side, I would also love to create bespoke patterns. This will enable my brand’s followers to tell me the kind of pattern and fabric they desire. It will almost be like creating artwork on demand.” Interview by Işık Cansu Canayak
Tiger in Giraffe maxi dress: This one has been the most popular pattern of Summer 2020. Made out of a 20ft-long fabric, you can almost feel the dress moving along with your moves.”

Sebnem Gunay Athleisure clothing with a groovy street attidude
Born in Belgium with Turkish roots, designer Sebnem Gunay has completed her education at Istanbul Fashion Academy in two different fashion studies. She was only 19 years old when decided to move to Istanbul to pursue her dream, which was studying fashion and making her debut during Istanbul Fashion Week. (IFW). Goes without saying, her dream came true with her senior project which was chosen to open the ‘NewGen’ runway during Istanbul Fashion Week in 2018. She has also been awarded the Best Design prize at the prestigious fair Who’s Next in Paris.
Interview by Işık Cansu Canayak

“At the very core of my brand lays color since I’m a huge believer in the direct communication of colors. I consider all emotions having their unique hues. For me, that’s how a relationship is formed between a garment and the person wearing it.”
TOR I US M A G A Z I N E
Founded in 2016, Sebnem dubbed her brand as an aggregation of her first and last name. “SBNMGNY is streetwear and casual sportswear brand,” she explains. “Ever from the start, I have been curating my collections as an ongoing series of stories. They are all linked to each other. Chronologically, it goes as The Universalist, SS/16, The Who, SS/17, Wear Your Smile, AW17/18, Still Taste The Past AW18/19, Spread Love SS/19, For Better Memories AW19/20 and the most recent one, Feel Your Soul for SS/20. You can think of them as songs of the same album.” Inspired by those careless, peaceful summer days of her childhood, Feel Your Soul adds sunshine-hues and harmony of contrasts to the brand’s signature pastel color scheme. Decorated with details such as contrastingshiny embroidery, intricate prints, and delicate sewing, the collection mostly consists of crop tops, tights and sweatpants of the 1990s. “Waffle-like fabrics, one of our trademarks, have been used predominantly in this collection as well. I aimed to liberate and revive today’s fashion scene, which I consider a bit too limited and orderly. I love combining various patterns and textures in one, meaning I need to spend longer-than-usual hours for research and production. Once the right textures are matched with the colors they look for, the mathematical formula behind my designs start working,” she says, which explains the brand’s refreshed take on the feminity. “We try to include both shiny and matt versions of raincoat fabrics used in our winter coat designs. Another favorite of mine is this fabric called scuba, helping me to underline the sensual and provocative side of SBNMGNY women.”

Babe Activewear by Seyma Subasi
67
A chic spin on active style
“Babe doesn’t limit itself with gyms. We aren’t here to produce what’s already out there. Instead, we aim to appeal to the women who would wear a blazer jacket over a simple bra and join a business meeting.”
TOR I US M A G A Z I N E
69
Undoubtedly, one of the most popular women in Turkey, a globetrotter, an influencer, and a tireless party girl; Seyma Subasi has now added ‘founder’ to the list of things that define her. Established as an expression of her very own lifestyle, the recently-born Babe Activewear makes its debut with a collection of 65 pieces. “As my followers would know by heart, exercise is a very major part of my daily routine. I believe it makes you so much stronger, both inside and out. Since this long became a part of who I am, turning it into a brand made total sense,” says Seyma, “Whether while doing pilates, running in a park or just meditating, for women, ‘feeling chic’ always provides great motivation. Therefore, we focused on a functional, yet charming style which would not only go well with exercising but also could be styled up as a casual, daily outfit.”
This is a great example of what Babe is about. Sexy, yet comfortable pieces which can be combined differenly for any occasion.” Şeyma Subaşı
TOR I US M A G A Z I N E
Indeed, her debut collection has quickly become known for blending comfort with stylish lines. Perhaps most famous for her signature style, which can be defined as ‘energetic, smooth and assertive,’ Seyma has been working on her brand for over a year. “What Babe and I have in common is our love for life! I’ve always chosen to focus my energy on the good and pretty. I love radiating positive vibes and am a huge believer in making your carma beautiful. This is what feeds my soul. Therefore, my brand follows just the same. Dynamic, energetic, positive and, open-minded.” “Since the brand is so newly born, we prefer growing one step at a time. Currently, we are in touch with some of the top department stores across the world. Before the end of 2020, our website will go live and we’ll be shipping internationally as well,” she adds. Interview by Işık Cansu Canayak
“Women who aren’t afraid to combine biker tights with an oversized hoodie while attending a dinner, or wear bodysuits with denim shorts for a party scene are Babe’s kind of women.

MOSHIQA All things stylish to mark our endless love for pets Meryem Birsรถz
73
Moshiqa is all about enriching the everlasting love between humans and their feline and canine family members. Founded by Meryem Birsoz in Los Angeles in 2017, this high-end pet’s lifestyle brand is based on a true love story: The one between Meryem and her beloved Shih-Tzu named Moshi, who just showed up in her doorstep one day. “That year, winter came and it was cold out. It broke my heart to see her shivering. So, I designed a winter jacket for her. That’s how our partnership has gotten started with my tiny one.” Today, her cute brand is favored by A-list celebrities for their pet-kids, including Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Miranda Kerr, and Demi Moore. Studied international business at Northeastern University in Boston, Meryem has completed her master’s degree in fashion marketing in Italy and worked in the fashion industry before finding her true passion, which can be called Moshiqaland. “We offer a well-curated selection of luxurious clothing, leather goods, and accessories for pets. In just three years, Moshiqa became the most-sold brand of its category in Asia and the second one in the US in 2019. Currently, we are sold across 25 countries. For our products, we work with the best manufacturing partner in Istanbul, with over 100 years of history on leather craftsmanship.”
TOR I US M A G A Z I N E
Collaborations stand at the very core of this sweet brand. “We’ve partnered with fashion designer Christian Cowan on a limited edition pet couture collection in 2018. Consisted of 14 pieces, it comprised festive collars, necklaces, glittery leashes, posh pink harnesses, studded leather jackets, and a cute pet carrier designed to look like an actual house.” And now, there’s a new one about to unravel soon on August 15, 2020. “I’m more than excited to announce that Moshiqa has been selected as the fashion partner of the new Warner Bros movie, Wonder Woman 1984. Dubbed ‘The Golden Capsule Collection’, all pieces will be based on our extravagant assortment of highend pet fashion accessories while introducing fantasy and wonder as themes to celebrate the empowerment of women. Inspired by this superheroine’s signature style, everything has been designed to combine confidence with stylish pet-lover in mind.” The upcoming collaboration will also introduce the most luxurious pet carrier crafted so far, ‘The Golden Vessel of Wonder’, in addition to ‘The Golden Lasso Utility Belt of Justice’, which features a refreshing style for the function-based product. “Since late 2019, we’ve been targeting specific projects around the world that show real impact for women and animal welfare. We’ll channel 10% of the sales revenue of our entire Wonder Woman WW84 Collection to help improve the lives of women in need and homeless pets via non-profits organizations such as The Malala Fund in Pakistan and Dumpster Doggies in Turkey,” Meryem concludes. Interview by Işık Cansu Canayak
“Wonder Nest Pet Carrier Bag is one of our signature designs. Designed for pet lovers ‘on the go’, it delights both pets and their parents, while reminding us of the days when fine craftsmanship was the symbol of true luxury.”
75
Other than winning the hearts of the Moshiqa Family Members all over the globe, the brand has also won the Best Design Award in Tokyo Design Week in 2016. “My favorite piece from Moshiqa X Wonder Woman 1984 collection is the Golden Lasso Utility Belt of Justice. Its design includes all the convenient accessories required while keeping it stylish.
