Volunteer Spotlight of the Month
We are so grateful for all our volunteers; we rely heavily on your support to meet our operational needs We want to take time once a month to extend our thanks to a volunteer who has had a positive impact at Toronto Humane Society based on staff/volunteer feedback. This Month we would like to shine a spotlight on Rhysand B.!
Rhysand B may have only started as a volunteer around six months ago, but he has already made a
lasting impression His wonderful demeanor and passion for animal care are a winning combination on their own, not to mention that he’s already volunteered over 260 hours!
According to Rhysand, what motivated him to want to volunteer with Toronto Humane Society stems from, “my love and compassion for animals, animal care and shelter work” Prior to living in Toronto, he had co-opted at a shelter in his hometown, so he was ready and excited to volunteer for us, even though he had to wait a while. “As soon as I turned 18, I applied, I waited three years on the wait list, and it was so worth the wait!”
Now, almost six months later, he has not only contributed an enormous amount, but he has also gained a lot as well. “I’ve gained extensive knowledge in both canine and feline behaviour, and it inspired me to stay in school for animal care” Furthermore, he has had some amazing experiences that will stick with him for a long time. One such case is a dog named Mr. Bee. “I got to form a bond with him, work with him, and watch him go home I watched him go from a reserved guy, to showing his full goofy personality.”
It's stories like these and, “the animals, and the amazing staff,” that keep him coming back shift after shift. “I will always treasure my night shifts, and all of the animals I have met and formed bonds with, and the bonds I have made with my fellow volunteers and staff” Well Rhysand, we cannot express how much we treasure you as well! Thank you so much for all that you do!
Please join us in celebrating Rhysand this month!
