INTRODUCTION

2

That our primary function is the marketing of products, the health promoting properties of which have been firmly and definitively established, is something about which we in Total Produce can all be justifiably proud. Prospects, though for our industry remain undeniably linked to the implicit trust attached to fresh produce by the consumer. This trust remains ever reliant on a confidence in the integrity of the supply chain through which produce is delivered. For Total Produce, a capacity to demonstrate our credentials as a responsible business is critical. As an industry leader, there is undoubtedly an expectation on the part of our stakeholders; consumers, customers, suppliers, shareholders and our own staff, that we lead the way. A response to upcoming legislative changes, “Vision 20/20 will see Total Produce calculate a group Carbon Footprint metric for the first time. It will not only bring a transparency to the environmental impact of our global operations but also provide a platform for reducing carbon consumption going forward. As such, it represents an important moment in our ongoing journey towards being an ever more sustainable company.

A POSITION O F G R E AT R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y.... In 2015 the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to provide a shared global blueprint for change. In addition to Goal 3 (Good Health & Well Being)- which lies at the heart of all that we do, Total Produce has chosen to focus on Goals 14 (Life Below Water), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action) in 2019/20- with Vision 20/20 inspired by the latter two goals in particular.

W H AT I S V I S I O N 2020?

Vision 20/20 is a groupwide initiative to measure the collective Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG’s) for the Total Produce group. It will require the gathering of information on carbon consumption (energy usage)

and a group Carbon Footprint figured calculated. This metric will be submitted, alongside a report detailing our group’s wider sustainability protocols, practices, achievements and credentials, to the Carbon Disclosure Project, an

from across Total Produce’s operations and those of its

independent ratings agency.

partners. This information will be audited by an external body

11

OUR OBJECTIVES

12

• A Comprehensive Overview; we aim to conduct a root and branch review of greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and establish a benchmark as a basis for delivering a reduction in carbon consumption going forward. • Addressing Stakeholder Interest; we aim to provide independent, authoritative reassurance to all of our stakeholders with respect to our commitment to measuring and reducing group carbon emissions. • Reducing Emissions and Costs; in identifying opportunities to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, we aim to reduce both our environmental impact and associated energy costs. • Be A Better Company; Embedded in an industry in which preservation of our environment is less an aspiration and more of a commercial imperative, we are seeking to play our part in protecting our natural resources and encouraging others to do likewise.

1. A Centralised Steering Group has been established (see page 29) to coordinate the organisation of this project. This group will liaise directly with our independent auditors and will produce the final group sustainability report, (which will include our group carbon footprint) for our ratings agency, the Carbon Disclosure Project. 2. The Information Collection process will be coordinated primarily through the finance functions of each group Operating Company. Nominated Financial Managers will be provided with a customised template and will be asked to collate relevant information from across all of the businesses operating within their organisation over a three week period. This information will be returned to the Vision 20/20 Steering Group.

3. Information from across the Total Produce group will be supplied to our external auditors who will calculate a total figure for the group and provide an analysis of group consumption, including suggestions for reducing consumption going forward. 4. This group Greenhouse Gas Emission figure will be added to our group Sustainability Report and submitted to the Carbon Disclosure Project. 5. The Carbon Disclosure Project will publish a rating for Total Produce plc.
