WELCOME TO BURLINGTON! GREETINGS FROM MAYOR GOLDRING
W
elcome to the beautiful city of Burlington, the best mid-sized city in Canada. No matter the season, Burlington has much to offer for the young and young at heart. This year, we’re encouraging residents and visitors to get outside and explore the many outdoor parks, trails and play experiences we offer throughout our city. Check out our 213 km of trails, visit one of our seven waterfront parks, build sand castles at the Beachway Park, one of the only white sand beaches on the shoreline of western Lake Ontario or visit the Royal Botanical Gardens which is home to some of the most significant wildlife and native plants in Canada. The Niagara Escarpment is a UNESCO designated world biosphere reserve that provides excellent hiking opportunities and wows visitors with beautiful views of the GTA. Burlington is the host of many great festivals that brings visitors from all over the world. Take in the sights at the Sound of Music Festival, the Children’s Festival or Canada’s Largest Ribfest, all taking place along our beautiful waterfront Spencer Smith Park. I hope your stay with us is a memorable one. Thank you for visiting, and I hope to see you again.
Mayor, Rick Goldring

#HOMETOWNPROUD OF BURLINGTON
L
ast year during Canada 150 many of our famous peeps came home to Burlington to rediscover their hometown. Some performed at events and many shared their wonderful memories of growing up and living in Burlington. Of course, we think Burlington is a pretty amazing place to visit too, with our beautiful waterfront, the majestic cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment and many fantastic festivals and attractions. But don’t take our word for it, here’s comments from some of our Famous Burlingtonians about what makes our city special: • “Burlington was, and is, a wonderful city for musicians and artists to learn, experiment and develop…” – Mychael Danna, Composer • “We were inspired by the rich independent music scene that was thriving in Burlington … we owe our start to Burlington!” – Silverstein • “Beautiful Lake Ontario is literally in our backyard … hike the escarpment trails of Mount Nemo … head to the Royal Botanical Gardens, or check out our amazing festivals like the Sound of Music, or my personal favourite: Ribfest!” – Mark Oldershaw, Olympian • “This town is packed with great musicians and artists … then there is Sound of Music Festival – what a phenomenal, completely made-in-Burlington, world-class event …” – Mike Taylor, Walk Off the Earth • “Burlington has a wonderful art community. The encouragement I received … gave me confidence and provided me with the opportunity I needed to pursue a career as a full-time professional artist.” – Chris Bacon, Wildlife Artist • “I’m proud to be from a city that offers so much opportunity to be creative.” – Diane Brady, Author/Editor • “Burlington is … becoming more diverse and accessible to all people; new shops and restaurants are popping up every day, and the beautiful landscapes throughout the city make Burlington one of the top cities in the world.” – Brandon Wagner, Paralympian

An exciting new transformation is planned for Joseph Brant Museum with this site reopening in summer 2019. The expansion will produce a first-rate community museum and heritage centre, incorporating the existing Brant House. The renewed Museum will have increased educational programming, traveling showcases and exhibitions that highlight the impressive collections. The Museum is named after Burlington’s first citizen, Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea) who represents the importance of the First Nations in shaping our nation.
PICASSO IN BURLINGTON Did you know that the Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) is home to the world’s largest collection of contemporary Canadian ceramics, totaling over 2,300 works? The ceramics range from the highly functional to sculptural installations including a Picasso and thoughout the year these works are on exhibit. This year the Gallery is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary.

During that time much of the gardens, trails and buildings have been tranformed including a new Atrium at the RBG Centre with a living wall; a huge Rock Garden restoration project with a new visitor centre, restaurant and banquet space; many new gardens and trails with amazing public art installations; and opening this summer a revitalized Rose Garden.
