Cabo Rojo: Perfect Attraction For Ecotourism Of Areas In Their Natural State
Cabo Rojo , is an area that covers about 8 km on the southwest coast of the Dominican Republic in the province of Pedernales .
There is a port with the same name. With a draft of about 10.9 meters and a length of 100 meters, this terminal is mainly used for the export of bauxite and limestone. Initially built by ALCOA (Aluminum Corporation of America); It is currently operated by the company Cementos Andinos, of Colombian capital.
Cabo Rojo beach is also located in this part of the country. Totally virgin, with a unique and enviable biodiversity.
Cabo Rojo Beach is one of the most beautiful places on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, 120 kilometers from Bar Ahona . Located in the vicinity of Bahía de las Águilas, it is one of the most visited beaches in the province. Its name derives from the bauxite that abounds in the surrounding areas and whose exploitation kept the area closed for years for the enjoyment of the public.
Access to Cabo Rojo, due to the scarcity of tourist investment in the area and the semi-virgin conditions
of the place, is not as easy as to other tourist destinations in the Dominican territory. However, these conditions add attraction to the place, since they ensure that once you reach its beaches, you will be totally immersed in nature. Excursions are made with some regularity to the area, but there are also those who decide to approach the area in a particular way.
The crystalline waters of Cabo Rojo stand out for being home to the best preserved coral reefs in the Caribbean Sea area. From the shore, the beach has an intense turquoise blue color. The coasts are breeding areas for the West Indian manatee, an endemic species of Dominican territory, and a spawning ground for the hawksbill turtle, in a meeting of specimens of this species that is probably one of the largest in the world. Pelicans also abound on its shores in impressive flocks.
The inhabited areas of Cabo Rojo correspond to the typical fishing village. Picturesque wooden houses abound and it is common to see fishing forests doing their work from the shore.

An eco-friendly paradise in Playa Esmeralda
By Miriam Veliz
A tropical colorful lobby welcomes you with its comfortable and colorful furniture in natural fiber and an impressive view of the awesome turquoise beach open in front of your eyes, preceded by an infinite pool. Vacations, relax, pasadise… We are at Club Med Miches, Playa Esmeralda (yes, the name of the beach is Esmeralda -Emerald-, but water is turquoise, at least today) in Samaná, Dominican Republic, an eco-chic, allinclusive luxury resort for families and couples who love sun-and-beach tourism.
I want to share with you a motivational sentence from Gerard Blitz, Club Med founder “The aim of life is to be happy. The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now”. I think that’s the main idea behind this luxury concept.
Today I´ll just mention some of the ways that idea is made true here: First, they are experts in choosing “heavenly destinations”, the kind of hideaways we all love. And this brand new resort (formal inauguration was January 30th, 2020) proves it: It’s a great location! Palm trees, white and soft sand beach of turquoise waters and excellent climate… They complement it with a beautiful and relaxing tropical decoration, premium all-inclusive vacations packages for families – with no hidden costs (for example electric surf boards, yoga in their tree top wellness canopy, movies under the stars and surprises for kids with a sweet tooth are included, no extra fees). Add to all that one thing I value the most: They listen to their customers (that is why they are so successful and I guess that’s why they have done this eco-touristic)
Club Med Miches, Playa Esmeralda is relaxing and full of amenities. It is divided in four areas, the most exclusive

one, oceanfront, for adults only, is called Archipielago, and its suites have a personal pool!!! Definitely, the best option for honeymoons. But also for adults, they have the Emerald Jungle (what they call Zen area), extra relaxing, with garden view and just steps away from the spa.
Now, this resort focuses in families. For you they have “Explorer Cove”, connecting rooms with capacity for 6 people, and “Caribbean Paradise” (colorful, as the name may suggest, inspired in Dominican exotic flora), and of course, children’s clubs, Childcare available starting from 4 months, special pools for children... and the Chocolate Room, in the family restaurant. But not only that, they have a program with activities for all ages designed to help reconnect and create cherished and fun memories.
Besides, if you love sports, you should try electric surf, or horse riding, but I also recommend you to ask for excursion arrangements (take the chance to visit new places, such as Samaná Bay, rich in flora and fauna diversity -and from January to end of March you have the opportunity to watch humpback whales that every year visit our warm waters to mate and give birth to their calves- or you can go to Montaña Redonda, in Miches, a popular spot to take fun pictures…) and visit other beaches too.

Here, beauty, great service and luxury, go along with the interest on protecting our planet, our environment, and helping the communities, so they have taken ecofriendly measures, some of them new for me, such as using biodegradable cutlery made from avocado seeds. They also use glass bottles you can refill in the drinking fountains, and even though they have straws, those are biodegradable too, because they are replacing single-use plastics with sustainable options in the resort. Another initiative they had was replanting all the trees they removed to build the resort facilities, plus planting about 2000 more plants (if you go now, you´ll see them small, they are still growing, but the replanted tress, many of them palm trees are tall and strong). They use solar panels and also, they decided not to have buildings taller than two floors, to reduce impact and enjoy nature better.
Definitely, this is an eco and human friendly tourism, good for people, good for nature. Oh! and Punta Cana Airport is nearby, because accessibility is a major factor. So it’s easy to get there. Enjoy a new and beautiful spot with world class level.
By the way, food is delicious! There’s a Lots of seafood in Coco Plum Beach Lounge, located on the

beach; Cacao & Co., the family restaurant, (here they have the Secret Chocolate Room!); Cayuco, is the most sophisticated one, and, for dinner, they also have a Grill Steakhouse. Add to that four bars, a coffee shop and a wine cellar, and you´ll understand a little bit more.
