TUI lost UK£20 million in 2020. The TUI Group had secured a loan of UK£1.55 billion from the German government with the condition that repayment would be in the Summer of 2022 along with the suggestion that TUI sell all or part of its 49% stake in the Spanish hotel chain RUI Hotels & Resorts.

TUI is trying to limit its long-standing partnership with RUI in a bid to meet the conditions of the German loan. TUI is now able to focus on its holiday operations In order to keep its title as Europe’s largest tour operator.
