GETTING HERE

Highway 16, also known as "the Yellowhead," is the main east-west route through Jasper and is part of the famous Trans-Canada Highway. The Icefields Parkway (highway 93) runs north-south and is considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. Plan your journey to Jasper at jasper. travel/getting-here.

5 Tips For Driving The Icefields Parkway In Winter

Confirm conditions

Weather is often different on the parkway than surrounding areas. Check road reports at 511.alberta.ca or dial 511 on your phone.

Watch for wildlife

The parkway passes through caribou habitat. Be alert, drive the speed limit and stay away from any animals (see middle pull out map).

Bring supplies

Much of the highway has no cellphone reception. Have an emergency kit that includes (but is not limited to): warm clothing, food and water.

Driving Times

Edmonton: 4 hours

Calgary: 4.5 hours

Vancouver: 9 hours

Leave early Allow plenty of extra time to fully enjoy the views along the route. When safe, pull off to roadside stops to snap some pictures.

Fill up before leaving None of the gas stations between Jasper and Lake Louise operate in winter. Also, snow tires are mandatory from November 1 to March 31.
