Kelowna is brimming over with interesting stories and here are a few to capture your imagination: •

Armed with new irrigation systems in the early 1900’s, the Valley started shifting away from ranching toward orchards. Learn more about our agricultural roots at the BC Orchard Industry Museum and BC Wine Museum & VQA Wine Shop.

From the home of tribes of the Okanagan First Nations to the settlement of the Oblate Missionaries evolving in the commercial hub of the Central Okanagan, Kelowna has undergone many transformations. Follow the Heritage Driving Tour to view more of Kelowna’s residential, cultural and community history. Pick up your copy of the tour at the Kelowna Visitor Centres.

Explore a wide assortment of other historical landmarks including the original Oblate missionary buildings built by Father Pandosy, and Guisachan Heritage Park and House, once the home of Lord and Lady Aberdeen.

We love to throw a party in Kelowna! Here’s a taste of what to expect: •

Parks Alive! This is a series of free concerts and entertainment on Kelowna’s lakefront and various city parks that runs from June to September.

Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon is as much fun for the spectators as it is for the 1,200 athletes who take part. There are twists and turns through the heart of the city, but the crowd favourite is the transition near the dolphins statue at Waterfront Park.

June’s Fat Cat Children’s Festival offers all kinds of artistic adventures, interactive activities and performances for children.

In September, it’s common to find Okanagan Lake spotted with Dragon Boats as teams prepare for the annual Dragon Boat Festival that takes place on the 18th and 19th.

The Spring and Fall Okanagan Wine Festivals are some of the best in North America. Chefs and winemakers team up to present dining and tasting events throughout the Valley.

Kelowna is all about perfect pairings – let us help you find yours: •

Visit the BC Wine Museum or Discover Wines and enjoy complimentary wine samplings while hearing the inside scoop on the staff’s favourite wineries.

Sit back, enjoy a glass of wine and listen to music among the vines of CedarCreek Estate Winery. Check their website for details on their Summer Sunset Concert Series.

Look for the original Allison family pioneer homestead at Quails’ Gate Estate Winery. While you’re there, be sure to try their Chenin Blanc, also known as the Obama wine as it was served to the U.S. President during his first visit to Canada.

Producing premium quality wines from organic grapes is truly a family business at Beaumont Family Estate Winery. Daughter Alana is the winemaker, son Scott is the vineyard manager and Mom and Dad (Louise and Alex) oversee the entire operation.

You can’t miss Summerhill Pyramid Winery, named Canadian Wine Producer of the Year for 2009 at the International Wine and Spirit Competition. There is a scale model of Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza and their tour takes you inside.

There are so many adventures to be had in Kelowna, the list of activities seems endless:

te am lley S te am a V et t le t ic s ...on K y’s au t he n ide d a u g w R ail r tak e a g an k ana o , O in h t i t ra w r sion e xc u u r s . To AT V

Start your adventures on the lake with the thrills of riding the waves in a boat rented from the Eldorado or Kelowna Marinas, or sit back and enjoy having someone else at the helm with Princess II Cruises.

Hike or bike the Myra Canyon Trestle section of the Kettle Valley Railway. Lakefront Sports Centre can outfit you with everything you’ll need to cycle the trails and provide a knowledgeable guide as well.

Take the kids to the petting zoo at the Kelowna Land & Orchard Co., play a round of indoor or outdoor mini-golf at Scandia Golf & Games, hit the gas at Kelowna Grand Prix Racing and Lazer Tag, or go stealth at Safari Ridge Adventure Paintball and Outdoor Laser Tag.

Try your hand at climbing at the EnergyPlex Family Recreation Centre or hit the slides and wave pool at H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre – home to Canada’s first “flowrider,” an ocean wave simulator.

With more than 200 mountain lakes scattered throughout the Kelowna area, there are enormous choices for freshwater angling. Rodney’s REEL Outdoors or Love 2 Fish Charters can get you geared up to go.

Or maybe it’s a bird’s eye view you’re after. Book an air tour of the region with Okanagan Mountain Helicopter or Air-Hart Aviation.

If you like to travel at a more leisurely pace, take a horseback excursion with LakeOkanaganStables.com or Mandy & Me Stables. Kelowna Grand Prix off of Hwy 97 on Stremel Road in Kelowna: Tourism Kelowna

Dining at The Cove’s Bonfire Restaurant & Bar on Gellatly Road in West Kelowna: Tourism Kelowna

If variety is the spice of life, see why Kelowna is bursting with flavour. Discover our secret ingredients: •

Homemade breads and jams will energize you for another adventurous day. Start with a hearty breakfast at the Bohemian Café.

Fresh, local ingredients make lunch on the go memorable. Many of the cafés along your route can put together sandwiches and fixings for a picnic.

Enjoy a meal ‘al fresco’ at The Hotel Eldorado, voted best patio in the Central Okanagan by Okanagan Life Magazine readers.

Chef Ned Bell of Cabana Grille might look familiar - you may have seen him as host of The Food Network’s “Cook Like a Chef” and "It's Just Food."

At RauDZ Regional Table Restaurant, Chef Rod Butters incorporates his philosophy of serving local ingredients in gourmet fare. Well recognized, he was inducted into the B.C. Restaurant Hall of Fame by his peers.

Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Pub, Bistro, Organic, Regional - whatever you’re craving, Kelowna restaurants have your table ready and set.

Quick tip

Whatever your indulgence, Kelowna delivers: •

From unique local shops to national retail chains, as the center of commerce in the Okanagan, Kelowna has an exciting collection of shopping options.

Just steps from the beach and City Park, Kelowna’s downtown has a blend of retail shops, galleries and lovely one-of-a-kind boutiques.

Strolling along Pandosy Street, you’ll find quaint shops in Tutt Street Square with art galleries, cafés and funky boutiques.

Slow it down and work out the kinks with a visit to a salon or day spa. You can choose among the deluxe facilities at major hotels and most resorts like Spa at the Cove AVEDA.

If you’d rather stick with the more traditional spa environment, indulge in a massage, mud wrap or mani/pedi at O Spa, Beyond Wrapture or Total E’Clips AVEDA SalonSpa. Consult the spa listings to find your perfect treatment.

Orchard Park Shopping Centre is the largest retail centre between Vancouver and Calgary with over 170 stores and services.

Gray Monk Estate Winery in Lake Country, north of Kelowna: Tourism Kelowna/Brian Sprout

Go on, get out of town for the day. We know you’ll be back! The Okanagan Valley is yours to discover: •

NORTH - Pop by Gatzke’s Farm Market in Oyama for fresh fruit and vegetables, an ice cream cone, a piece of delicious homemade pie or all of the above. Take a farm and orchard excursion, or have a picnic at Davison Orchards in Vernon. It’s just a short jaunt down the road for fun for kids (of all ages) at Atlantis Waterslides or the Historic O'Keefe Ranch.

SOUTH - Tour the wineries on the Naramata Bench, then check out the beaches in Penticton or float down the canal that joins Okanagan and Skaha Lakes. While you’re in the area, count the more than 25 wineries that dot the South Okanagan. And did you know Canada has a desert? Explore the northern tip of the Sonoran Desert in Osoyoos and tour the Nk’Mip Desert and Heritage Centre.

EAST - Take a scenic tour past Big White and McCulloch Lake, then meander down the Kettle River toward Rock Creek. Take a right to bring you through to Osoyoos where you can dive into one of the warmest lakes in Canada. Circle back toward Kelowna and see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Maybe you will catch a glimpse of a bear, elk, moose or mountain goat along the way!

WEST - Head west to the Fintry Estate Provincial Park and climb the 300 steps up to the Fintry Falls then finish off with a meal at Lake Okanagan Resort. Meander through the charming communities of West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland Stop for some beach time at one of the many hideaways, go for a stroll beneath the leafy canopy of a homestead nut farm or take a ride on the historic Kettle Valley Steam Train near Summerland.
