Fun Fact
Okanagan Lake is approximately 110 km long running north to south through the Okanagan Valley. Kelowna is located on the eastern shore, boasting many beautiful beaches – even mainstreet ends at the lake. To find detailed information to help you pick your beach, check page 46.
The W.R. Bennett Bridge opened in May 2008, replacing the original Okanagan Lake Bridge, built in 1958. It is the only vehicular crossing over Okanagan Lake and the only floating bridge in Canada.

In Kelowna, there is always a celebration! Here is just a sampling of the special festivals and cultural events that you can look forward to: •
Okanagan Wine Festivals take place in all four seasons of the year. You can try some of the best wines in North America, learn about viticulture and enjoy live festivities. Chefs and winemakers team up to present unique dining and tasting events throughout the Valley.
•
More than 15,000 adults and children converge upon June’s Fat Cat Children’s Festival with a themed parade through the downtown corridor, inspiring artistic adventures, interactive activities and performances. Fun for all in the family!
•
Parks Alive! This series of free daily concerts and performances is hosted at various city parks throughout Kelowna from June to September.
•
The Mardi Gras Street Festival is fun in the sun for everyone and stretches on through the evening with events and activities throughout Kelowna’s downtown. There’s a children’s activity zone, stage performances and some of the best deals around in participating retail shops and the giant pedestrian zone.
•
Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon is as exciting for the spectators as it is for the 1,800 athletes who take part. There are twists and turns through the heart of the city, but the crowd favourite is the transition at Waterfront Park.
•
Each year, the Okanagan Pride Festival takes place with family friendly entertainment and events throughout the city as we celebrate our solidarity and social diversity.
•
In early September, it’s common to find Okanagan Lake spotted with Dragon Boats as teams prepare for the annual Dragon Boat Festival later in the month.

Visit the BC Wine Museum or Discover Wines and enjoy complimentary wine samplings while hearing the inside scoop on the staff’s favourite local wineries.
•
Sit back, enjoy a glass of wine and listen to music among the vines at CedarCreek Estate Winery – host in 2010 to musicians such as Chantal Kreviazuk, Jessie Farrell and Vonda Shepard. Check their website for details on their upcoming Sunset Concert Series.
•
Enjoy a spectacular view of Okanagan Lake from St. Hubertus Estate Winery and visit their beautiful wine shop, rebuilt after the original structure was destroyed in the Okanagan Mountain Park Fires of 2003.
•
Calona Vineyards has the distinction of being British Columbia's original winery established in 1932 and leading the way to establishing the wine industry here.
•
Stop in at some of the newer farm-gate wineries located in Southeast Kelowna like Camelot with their medieval themed tasting room; OkanaganVilla Estate Winery’s The Vibrant Vine tasting room where the art is as exciting as the wines; and SpierHead Winery nestled on the slopes of the bench that accommodates their underground barrel room. Just a short jaunt across to Garner Road takes you to the House of Rose Winery and their wide range of wines.

Weave through the roads of East Kelowna, stopping to sample the harvest of the day at fruit stands like Don-O-Ray Vegetables, Graziano Orchards and Old Meadows Organic Farm.
•
Explore the patchwork of farms, orchards and other agricultural attractions that offer tours like Davison Orchards or Gatzke Farm Market just north of the city.

Go on, get out of town for the day. We know you’ll be back! The Okanagan Valley is yours to discover: •
NORTH - Pop by Gatzke’s Farm Market in Oyama for fresh fruit and vegetables, an ice cream cone, a piece of delicious homemade pie or all of the above. Take a farm and orchard excursion, or have a picnic at Davison Orchards in Vernon. It’s just a short jaunt down the road for more fun for the kids (of all ages) at Atlantis Waterslides.
•
SOUTH - Tour the wineries in Naramata, then check out the beaches in Penticton or float down the channel that joins Okanagan and Skaha Lakes. While you’re in the area, count the more than 25 wineries that dot the south end of the valley. And did you know Canada has a desert? Explore the northern tip of the Sonoran Desert in Osoyoos and tour the Nk’Mip Desert and Heritage Centre to learn and experience more.
•
EAST - Take a scenic tour past Big White and McCulloch Lake, then meander down the Kettle River toward Rock Creek. Circle back toward Kelowna and see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Maybe you will catch a glimpse of a bear, elk, moose or mountain goat along the way!
•
WEST - Head west to Fintry Provincial Park and climb the 300 steps up to the Fintry Falls, then finish off with a picnic at the beach. Wind through the charming communities of West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland. Stop for some beach time at one of the many lakeside hideaways, go for a stroll beneath the leafy canopy of a homestead nut farm or take a ride on the historic Kettle Valley Steam Train near Summerland.
Drop by the Visitor Centres to learn more about day trips from Kelowna or call 250-861-1515 or toll free 1-800-663-4345.
