Fun Fact
Okanagan Lake is approximately 110 km long, running north to south through the Okanagan Valley. Kelowna is located on the eastern shore, boasting over 30 beautiful beaches – even our main street ends at the lake! To find detailed information to help you pick your beach, check page 30.
The W.R. Bennett Bridge opened in May 2008, replacing the original Okanagan Lake Bridge, built in 1958. It is the only vehicular crossing over Okanagan Lake and the only floating bridge in Canada.

• Averaging over 2,000 hours of sun every year, Kelowna offers one of the longest, driest golf seasons in Canada. You can golf from early spring, well into the gorgeous fall season! • Vineyards, orchards, semi-desert terrain, rolling hills, and expansive lakes make the golf courses in the area some of the most picturesque in the country. • Many clubhouses also offer après golf dining experiences that range from casual to gourmet. • Ponderosa is the first golf course in the Okanagan Valley to be both designed and built by Greg Norman and offers breathtaking lake views in a natural setting – opening soon! • Other notable names that have designed local courses include Jack Nicklaus, Les Furber, Fred Couples, Graham Cooke and Thomas McBroom. • Most courses are in close proximity, so you can easily golf two courses a day. • SCOREGolf magazine agrees that Kelowna is a golf lover’s heaven. We quote, “It takes just a few minutes to realize that golf and Kelowna are intertwined!”

The Lake
29
the lake Nothing can beat a day at the lake! Lazy summer days plus refreshing water equals endless fun. • Okanagan Lake is 110 km long and curves its way through the Okanagan Valley from north to south. At its midpoint, the W.R. Bennett Bridge spans the lake – the only floating bridge in Canada. • Kelowna and area has more than 30 beaches – many with playgrounds, picnic areas, concessions and restroom facilities. See more details on page 30 to pick your perfect spot. • The lake is welcoming and refreshing, but it also has its mysteries - tombs and hidden coves. Hike the Paul’s Tomb trail near Knox Mountain and snorkel in the crystal clear water of the quiet bays. • Houseboats, ski boats, personal water craft, sailboats, pedal-boats, kayaks and canoes – however you choose to ride the waves, it’s all here. Rent your choice of watercraft and toys from one of the many businesses listed on page 31. • If you’d rather have someone else take the helm, book a tour and kick back with one of the popular boat charters. • You can also enjoy gazing out at the water. Pick your lookout – on the beach, on the boardwalk, on the patio, on the dock, or in the air! View the lake from a bird's eye view with Okanagan Parasail Company.

Orchards, Gardens & Markets

orchards, gardens & markets No doubt about it, you’re in orchard country. • Kelowna is dotted with fruit stands and surrounded with fragrant blossoms, trees laden with fruit, and an abundant fall harvest. You want the real thing? You’ve come to the right place. • Grab a snack or stock up on all sorts of harvest goods, preserves and locally crafted works of art at the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market, Paynter’s Fruit Market, Hillcrest Farm Market or Pioneer Market. • A trip to the U-pick is a must! Grab a bucket and harvest your own cherries at Kempf’s Orchards or Arndt Orchards during cherry season. • Stroll through the aromatic fields at Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm and visit the gift boutique for lavender products.
Cherry Blossoms. Photo Credit: Tourism Kelowna
• Explore the patchwork of farms, orchards and other agricultural attractions that offer tours like Elysium Gardens and Falcon Ridge Farms. • Be sure to include a walk through Kasugai Gardens – a serene Japanese garden and the Veendam Rose Garden – an elegant rose garden at City Park. • A little farther north of Kelowna, you can take a tractor ride at Davison Orchards, then spoil yourself with a slice of fresh pie in the café.

• Kelowna's history is rooted in agriculture, first with ranching and then orchards and vineyards. Learn more about our agricultural roots at the BC Orchard Industry Museum and BC Wine Museum & VQA Wine Shop. • The recently renovated Laurel Packinghouse is a nationally designated heritage landmark and is the oldest and largest standing packing house in BC. • The tribes of the Okanagan First Nations were the first to call the valley home, followed by settlers and Oblate Missionaries. Travel your own route on the Heritage Driving Tour and soak up the history at your own pace. Your copy of the tour is available at the downtown Kelowna Visitor Centre and Kelowna Airport Information Kiosk.

Day Trips
55
day trips Go on, get out of town for the day. The Okanagan Valley is yours to discover. • NORTH - Pop by Gatzke’s Farm Market in Oyama for fresh fruit and vegetables, an ice cream cone, a piece of delicious homemade pie or all of the above. Take a farm and orchard excursion, or have a picnic at Davison Orchards in Vernon. It’s just a short jaunt down the road for fun for kids (of all ages) at Atlantis Waterslides or Historic O'Keefe Ranch. Take a break at Sparkling Hill for some relaxation in their award-winning Kurspa and enjoy the breathtaking views. • SOUTH - Tour the wineries on the Naramata Bench, then check out the beaches in Penticton or float down the canal that joins Okanagan and Skaha Lakes. While you’re in the area, count the dozens of wineries that dot the South Okanagan. And did you know Canada has a desert? Explore the northern tip of the Sonoran Desert in Osoyoos and tour the Nk’Mip Desert and Heritage Centre. • EAST - Take a scenic tour past Big White and McCulloch Lake turnoffs, then meander down the Kettle River toward Rock Creek. Take a right to bring you through to Osoyoos where you can dive into the warmest lake in Canada. Circle back toward Kelowna and see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Maybe you will catch a glimpse of a bear, elk, moose or mountain goat along the way! • WEST - Head west to the Fintry Provincial Park and climb the 300 steps up to the Fintry Falls, then finish off with a picnic at the beach. Stop for some beach time at one of the many hideaways, go for a stroll beneath the leafy canopy of a homestead nut farm, or take a ride on the historic Kettle Valley Steam Train near Summerland. Drop by the Visitor Centres to learn more about your options for day trips from Kelowna or call 250-861-1515 or toll free 1-800-663-4345.

dining Be sure to pack your appetite when you come to Kelowna. • Fresh baked goods and produce will energize you for your adventures. Start the day off right at De Dutch Pannekoek House, The Wedding Café or Good Earth Coffee House & Bakery in Pandosy Village. • Make lunch a healthy fast food alternative with something from Fresh Healthy Café, or have the Bohemian Café put together a picnic everyone will love. • If you’re ordering in, try Hansen’s Classic Pizza where only fresh, natural ingredients are used on their hand-made pizza pies.
