Truly Terrific Tanzania

When considering your next holiday and trip through Africa, I highly recommend Tanzania, it is truly terrific.

A land of stunning natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, makes Tanzania an amazing destination for tourists from all over the globe. From its rolling grasslands teeming with wildlife to some of the most pristine beaches you will ever see together with ancient historical sites, Tanzania offers something for everyone.

Here are some of the best must visit parts of the country that best showcase the countries unparalleled charm.

Serengeti National Park

First up is Serengeti National Park, A UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the annual Great Migration, where you can see nearly 2 million wildebeests, zebras, and antelope traverse the plains in search of greener pastures. They are however followed closely by predators like lions (one of the largest populations in Africa), cheetahs, and hyenas, as well as over 3000 crocodiles in the rivers that they cross. As a visitor you can embark on game drives, hot air balloon safaris, or even guided walking tours to experience the raw beauty and untamed wilderness of the Serengeti. I would however advise that if you are visiting Tanzania to see the Great Migration, there is no guarantee you will be in exactly the right spot at the right time, and the area can be very busy and often crowded with a flood of game drive vehicles.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak, standing at a breathtaking 5,895 meters tall. Kilimanjaro is a is a magnet for adventurers and nature enthusiasts offering a range of hikes, mountain climbing and trekking routes that vary in difficulty, making it accessible to both seasoned climbers as well as beginners. The ascent to the summit takes you through a number of diverse ecosystems: from lush rainforests and alpine meadows, to barren volcanic landscapes, culminating in truly breathtaking views from the summit.

Zanzibar Archipelago

Possibly the most well-known part of Tanzania to tourists, Zanzibar is best known for its powdery white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and rich history. Simply put, Zanzibar is a tropical paradise. When visiting the island, be sure to visit Stone Town (which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site), boasts a labyrinth of narrow streets, bustling markets, and historic buildings that reflect a blend of Arab, Persian, Indian, and European influences.

There is also the Spice Route tours offers an immersive experience where visitors can explore spice plantations and learn about the cultivation of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices that have shaped Zanzibar’s history and economy. If you are into cooking and flavour, you may even get the chance to cook with these spices, with the local who are always keen to share their traditional recipes.

Zanzibar also offers world-class snorkelling, scuba-diving, coaral reefs, marine protected areas as well as dhow sailing excursions, making it a haven for beach lovers and marine enthusiasts. If you are after a more relaxing experience, you can enjoy a massage on the beach, spa treatment in your hotel or even a cocktail whilst enjoying the view of the Indian Ocean.

Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater (sometimes referred to as Africa’s Eden) is a true wonder of nature. This massive volcanic caldera is home to a dense concentration of animals, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo). The lush crater floor is dotted with lakes, swamps, and savannahs, creating a unique ecosystem that supports an estimated 25,000 animals. A game drive here guarantees unforgettable encounters with wildlife.

Lake Manyara National Park

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions and vast flocks of flamingos. The park’s diverse habitats, including groundwater forests, grassy plains, and alkaline lakes, make it a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. There is also canoeing on the lake or exploring the treetop walkway adding a unique perspective to this enchanting destination.

Selous Game Reserve

For those seeking a more off-the-beatenpath adventure, the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania offers an unspoiled wilderness experience. As one of the largest faunal reserves in the world, Selous is far less crowded than many of the other national parks and game reserves, providing a tranquil setting that is able to be explored by boat, on foot, or in a 4x4. The Rufiji River, flowing through the reserve, is the main focal point for any wildlife viewing, especially crocodiles, hippos, and waterbirds.

Mafia Island

Lastly, there is Mafia Island, a lesser-known gem, but a true diver’s paradise. Part of the Mafia Archipelago, this island is surrounded by some of the most vibrant coral reefs that all form part of the Mafia Island Marine Park. These waters are teeming with marine life, including whale sharks, which can be seen between October and March.

The tranquil atmosphere and untouched beaches also make it an ideal escape for those looking to unwind, and escape to a more quiet piece of paradise.

Tanzania’s diverse attractions offer an unparalleled travel experience. Whether you’re seeking thrilling wildlife encounters, cultural immersion, or serene landscapes, Tanzania promises to leave you with memories that last a lifetime. With its warm hospitality and natural wonders, it’s no surprise that Tanzania continues to top the list of must-visit destinations for travellers worldwide. Tanzania is truly terrific.
