Ocqueoc Falls
40 miles down the Lake Huron shore from Cheboygan, a northern Michigan getaway and with views of the largest falls in the Lower Peninsula. Hikers and bikers can explore the state forest along a network of trails and wrap up the day around the campfire. Campsites are first come, first served.
Irontone Spring
Seven Bridges Rec Area
Known for its beautiful, rustic bridges, this enchanting property has more than a mile of frontage on the Rapid River. A trail and boardwalk wander through cedar trees and over bridges spanning the Rapid River, which is braided into several channels here. The remains of a sawmill built in 1882 can still be seen when crossing the first three bridges. Despite its name, only four bridges exist today.
North of Gaylord on old 27 is a roadside park. Not exactly a waterfall but a small creek runs through it with a couple of bridges that cross the flowing water. The water comes from a natural spring known as the Irontone Spring. Take a break from I-75 and travel along old 27 to stop at the little roadside park.
Iargo Springs
Lying off of River Road National Scenic Byway, Iargo Springs provides a panoramic view of the Au Sable River. Used as a drinking water source since pre-settlement times, dams were constructed on the springs by early loggers before the turn of the century. The dams were useful in diverting water to the logging camps nearby. Most of Cooke Pond was dry land then.
Fishtown - Carp River Waterfall
Settled along the shore of Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland offers restaurants, shopping and excursions all while relaxing to the rumbling roar of the Carp River waterfall dropping into the center of Fishtown, Leland.
Rockford Dam
Beautifully renovated, the Rockford Dam Overlook is one of the highlights of Rockford and provides a spectacular view of the Rogue River. Ideal for picnicking and watching the fishermen, this park is a gem of downtown Rockford. There is direct access to the river. www.rockford.mi.us
