Illness Overview

In consideration of others, children should not be sent to school when ill. A child should remain at home with a fever (100.0 degrees or higher), suspected strep throat, rash of unknown origin, vomiting or diarrhea, or any possible COVID-19 symptoms (see below). Students are not to return to school until they are without fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, for at least 24 hours without medication. If a student’s temperature is even slightly elevated in the morning (99.5 degrees or higher) it may be a fever by afternoon and he or she should not come to school. Students with suspected strep throat should remain at home until the throat culture result is obtained or until the student has been on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours. Notification

Please inform the school nurse of any serious illness or injury, or anything of a highly contagious nature, e.g., chicken pox, strep throat, head lice or an antibiotic-resistant infection, such as methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is essential that the nurse have information regarding allergies to medications, food or bee stings, and chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or seizures. The nurse should also be informed when phone numbers for emergency notification change. Appointments (Dismissal for doctor, dentist, orthodontist appointments)

Whenever possible, doctor’s appointments should be scheduled for after school. If that cannot be arranged, Lower School students are expected to present a note to their teachers, who will notify the Lower School Administrative Assistant, from their parent/guardian indicating the time of dismissal and the reason.

COVID-19 Guidance

In 2021-2022, unvaccinated students must mask. Surgical masks and THS cloth masks are permitted. No cloth masks other than the THS cloth masks are permitted. Daily symptom screening may be required by a parent/guardian for students participating in in-person learning. A link will be sent via text message or email and once submitted you will receive an all clear message to come to campus. Students will not be permitted on campus if this daily screening is not completed. If you receive a denied access to campus message, please keep unwell household members at home and contact the school nurse for further guidance. Any possible exposures to COVID-19 should be reported to the school nurse immediately. A decision will be made on a case-by-case basis to determine exposure risk and if a quarantine period is required. Students will not be permitted on campus until they have received clearance from the school nurse. Students experiencing possible symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, sudden loss of taste and/or smell, headache, fatigue, muscle or body aches, GI upset or sore throat) will not be permitted on campus. Please keep your child at home and notify the school nurse immediately. Parents/guardians should call the Delaware Department of Public Health (2-1-1) for guidance regarding presenting symptoms and information on COVID-19 testing, in addition to notifying their primary care provider. Length of isolation for the sick child will be determined by a medical provider on a case-by case basis, as well as length of time for unwell household members to quarantine. Parent/ guardian must call the school nurse prior to the student returning to campus for a review of current symptoms and course of illness.
