INCLUSION SERVICES

INCLUSION SERVICES The Town of Aurora welcomes and encourages residents of all abilities to have equitable and meaningful access to recreation opportunities. This is accomplished through specialized programming, individualized support options and accessible facilities for patrons with disabilities or unique needs. Service animals are welcome at all Town owned and operated facilities.

INTEGRATED OPPORTUNITIES TOWN OF AURORA

INCLUSION SERVICES

Participants require additional support if: • They have extra support at school or at home; • A physical, medical, or developmental/learning disability exists that affects the safety of others; • Extra support is required at home for basic care such as dressing and toileting; • The individual is currently associated with a support agency or program; or • There are challenging behaviours to be managed.

Additional Support Participants with disabilities and unique needs are encouraged to take part in year-round recreation programs that suit their interests and hobbies. If assistance is required outside of the typical staff to participant ratio, individuals have the following options: •1 :1 Town Support Staff Inclusion 1:1 support staff are available to facilitate participation in all Town of Aurora recreation programs. A support staff may provide redirection for safety reasons and allow opportunities for sensory or emotional breaks. Upon request, the Town of Aurora will do their best to arrange a 1:1 support staff for a participant based on availability and resources. In most cases, 1:1 support can be arranged, however, we ask families to provide at least two weeks notice prior to the start of a program to allow for adequate time to confirm a staff member. • External Support Workers The Town of Aurora welcomes external personal support workers into all our programs and drop-ins at no additional registration costs. An external support worker can include a parent, family member, or paid external staff member at the expense of the family.

For assistance, please contact: Marco De Benedictis (Community Programmer) 365-500-3163 | mdebenedictis@aurora.ca

PARKS & TRAILS PEDESTRIAN TRAIL SYSTEM The Town of Aurora is fortunate to have an extensive pedestrian trail system which connects many of its neighbourhood parks, Town facilities and open space corridors. Presently the Town maintains approximately 62 kilometers of trails. All Aurora trails are considered multi-use, with the primary focus being pedestrian hikers. Opportunities also exist for cross-country skiers. The majority of our trails are compact gravel surfaces with some asphalt sections through neighbourhood and community parks. All users are advised to respect other trail users, to stay on designated trails and to exercise caution at all times. Note: Our trails are not groomed or maintained during winter months, and conditions vary widely. Surface conditions can change dramatically during the winter to create potentially hazardous hiking and skiing conditions. OUTDOOR WINTER SKATING The Town currently constructs four outdoor ice skating rinks within our neighbourhood parks. These are located at Town Park, Confederation Park, Machell Park and Ada Johnson Park. The ice rinks consists of a natural surface and are weather permitting, with construction typically taking place in the early New Year. All rinks are lit for evening skating and are mixed use; with hockey and pleasure skating taking place on the same rink. We ask users to respect others and wear protective gear at all times while on the ice. TOBOGGANING Due to the undulating topography in the Town, it is common for residents to utilize non-designated areas for tobogganing. The Town does not recommend using these areas as dangers are prevalent. Tobogganing is permitted in the following dedicated areas: Fleury Park (south of Aurora Heights Dr. and the ACC parking lot), Machell Park (north of the parking area on the west side of the park), AFLC Lambert Willson Park (along the east side of the building) and Copland Park (along the north side of the park). Tobogganers are reminded that these designated locations are unsupervised by the Town and surface areas can vary widely with ice and other hazardous conditions. All tobogganers using these facilities do so at their own risk. Children should be supervised by an adult and all participants should use appropriate safety equipment. PARK BENCH DONATION PROGRAM The Operational Services Department offers a Park Bench Donation / Dedication Program within our parks and trails. You can be part of the program and partner with the Parks Division in dedicating an existing park bench, with a personalized message of your choice. Our staff will ensure that your bench receives the care and maintenance it deserves for years to come. Our Park Bench Donation Program would make a great gift for that special person who is hard to buy for and will truly be a gift that keeps on giving to all of those in need of a place to rest in our parks and along our trail system. For more information on the Park Bench Donation Program, please visit the Town of Aurora website or call Parks 365-500-3134. Note: We are currently not accepting new donation park bench applications, however we are happy to assist with the dedication on an existing park bench in a park/trail.

MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM The Town of Aurora has a Memorial Tree Planting policy to enable the planting or designation of memorial trees on municipal lands within the Town. For more information on the Memorial Tree Planting Policy, please visit the Town of Aurora website. AURORA ADOPT-A-PARK IS YOUR CHANCE TO GROW WITH THE COMMUNITY Over 700 acres of Parkland, an outstanding Trail System and friendly tree-lined streets contribute to Aurora’s natural beauty and make it a place we are proud to call home. Did you know that the Adopt-A-Park program provides local businesses, community groups and residents with the opportunity to enhance the environment and beautify our town by assisting with the maintenance and developement of Aurora’s parks and trail systems? Adopt-A-Park continues to: • Create opportunities for citizens to support our parks and green spaces. • Share the responsibility for a clean community. • Develop opportunities for youth involvement. • Build community pride and a sense of ownership in our parklands. Including tree and shrub plantings, there are a number of ways for individuals, interested groups and organizations to become involved in this exciting program. Please contact the Parks Division at 365-500-3134 for further information or email sking@aurora.ca.

DISCOVER THE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL

Take the next step today – www.cds.on.ca/visitus to learn more.

Every child has a future waiting to emerge. A passion ready to ignite. We offer the possibilities that make it happen. A place where they are known, supported and inspired. A pair of hockey skates, theatrical costumes, or robotics code? A goal, a song, or a speech? With us, students discover themselves. They find big, dreamy answers to the most important question of all:

WHO WILL YOU BE? cds.on.ca/whowillyoube

The Country Day School offers JK-12 in a co-ed, non-denominational environment located on 100 beautiful acres in King. 13415 Dufferin Street, King, Ontario L7B 1K5 T: 905 833 1972 www.cds.on.ca
