Stay active at any age! The Brenda Button Mills Senior Center hosts a variety of weekly leisure activities and monthly programs for the Little Elm area senior adults, ages 50 and over. Most programs are free or have a minimal charge. Dates of events below subject to change.

SPECIAL EVENTS & PROGRAMS

Bring out your green! Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day observes the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland? The colors of the Irish flag are green, white, and orange, with the green symbolizing Irish nationalism, the orange symbolizing the Orangemen of the north and the white symbolizing peace. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Senior Center on Saturday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with food, music, dancing, and the return of karaoke with singer and emcee Connor Rayman. RSVP beginning February 28.

• Acrylic Painting Class with Clint – Thursday, March 2, from 5-6:30 p.m. Our favorite local artist, Clinton Boyles, returns to the Senior Center to teach us how to paint “Windmill at Sunset.” Twelve seats are available. This is free, and we provide all supplies. If you have not had a chance to paint yet, this class is for you! RSVP beginning February 21.

• Senior Fraud and Exploitation Workshop – Wednesday, March 8, at 11:30 a.m. Anthony Grant from Independent Financial will provide details and tips on preventing elder financial exploitation. In addition, this workshop will discuss how to avoid power of attorney, investment and retirement, caregiver or in-home assistance, and lottery scams. RSVP beginning February 28.

• Diabetes Nutrition Talk – Tuesday, March 14, from 1-2 p.m. Katlin Stanley, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Marley Nutrition and Fitness, will teach us how to create a diabetic-friendly snack and speak about the best diet for a diabetic person. Katlin has a passion for helping others and can assist you with making better eating choices to fuel your body and improve your health. Twenty seats are available. RSVP beginning February 28.

• Make Your Own Tulip Craft – Thursday, March 16, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join Jaya and Rachel from the Little Elm Library as they teach us how to make a tulip to get ready for the arrival of Spring. Twenty seats are available. This is free, and we provide all supplies. RSVP beginning February 28.

• Spring into Health Fair – Monday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Celebrate the first day of spring at the Senior Center with over 25 vendors offering healthcare and wellness information, legal resources, companion services and much more. Cordia Francis, an independent insurance broker, has created a Health Fair for the Little Elm Senior Community.

• Join us for our monthly Senior Luncheon – Tuesday, March 28, at 11:30 a.m. Sit down with your senior community and enjoy lunch and good conversation. If you are able to bring a dessert, please sign up at the front desk. We will be serving a baked potato bar, pasta e fagioli soup from Olive Garden, and dessert. Lunch is served at noon. RSVP beginning February 28.
