Victoria Park will come alive this Arts Season with an unmissable celebration of the richness and diversity of creativity and culture within our community. As we put the social disconnection of 2020 behind us, we have curated a special program of thought-provoking and inspiring artistic and cultural experiences designed to connect people, places and ideas, showcasing the Town as a dynamic place for everyone. Perth-based sculptor Abdul-Rahman Abdullah’s poignant work Wednesday’s Child sits at the Causeway entrance to the Town. A spectacular exhibition featuring the largest ever assembly of Abdullah’s works is at John Curtin Gallery, with workshops and talks for adults and children. Transformative musical experiences include meditations at Mindfulness and Music, soothing tones of Surround Sound to release the anxieties of uncertain times, and new ensemble music inspired by the magic realism of Abdullah’s sculptures.

guided street art walks, and Noongar art, design, and culture experiences, including weekly Noongar singing workshops with Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse. New murals and street art by local artists are a staple of Arts Season, and there are a multitude of creative opportunities with wood-carving, cartooning, digital art-making, paint pouring, stopmotion video talks, and workshops.

The John Curtin Gallery presents Everything Is True, the largest ever assembly of sculptural work by Perth-based artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah. Abdullah explores the different ways memory emerges from domestic spaces, often drawing on his personal memories of family life. Working mostly in sculpture, his work has been described as magic realism.

This exhibition is a collection of abstract and vivid paintings that have emerged since Rob Anson’s diagnosis of younger onset dementia in 2018. The body of work seeks to highlight the life of people living with younger onset dementia (under 65 years at the time of diagnosis) and the struggles that both the person with the illness and their carers go through.
