Message from the Mayor
His Worship the Mayor Trevor Vaughan P: 9311 8155 M: 0447 374 528 tvaughan@vicpark.wa.gov.au
It’s been a great start to the year and we’re excited to keep the events, initiatives and upgrades coming. The Town has received some very positive feedback from our community and it’s great to see so many of you out and about, enjoying what we have to offer.
There’s so much going on in the Town that we had to include two extra items with this autumn edition – your Arts Season pocket guide and a community update for the Lathlain Precinct Redevelopment Project (LPRP). The 2017 Victoria Park Arts Season takes place from 1 to 30 April and showcases the creativity of the people and spaces in our Town. There are plenty
of events happening, with something for everyone, so make sure you check them out. The new LPRP leaflet provides you with information on what has happened so far and what is planned to happen next in each of the zones. We’re excited with the progress that the project is making and look forward to the benefits it will bring our community. I hope to see you all around the Town in the coming months, whether it be at our premier event, Music by Moonlight, at our Anzac Day dawn service or dining at one of our local restaurants.
Mayor Trevor Vaughan

Change of focus for Connect Vic Park Connect Victoria Park aims to connect over 55s living in our community. Formerly known as the Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Connect Victoria Park have been operating at The Homestead in Mackie Street, Victoria Park since 1960. Connect Victoria Park changed its name in 2015 to better reflect a focus of supporting older people to connect with each other and their community, and it is not the only change that they have made. The organisation and The Homestead are currently being revitalised to ensure that they can meet the needs of the new generation of over 55s living in our local area. The Connect Carnival, beginning in March 2017 is designed to do just that. More than a dozen new activities are being offered to encourage a sense of community, maintain health and foster creativity for over 55s. People can participate in exercise classes, learn Tai Chi, join the choir, learn to play chess, meditate, join a writing group or brush up on computer skills for $5 per session over an eight-week term. The Connect Carnival Expo will be held on Friday 10 March from 4pm to 6.30pm to showcase the new opportunities being offered during the carnival. “We anticipate that our renewed efforts to connect with the local community will help to make the Town of Victoria Park an even greater place to live for our demographic,” said Connect Victoria Park Chief Executive Officer, Luke Garswood. “We are committed to understanding the current and future needs of our local people, and look forward to making a real difference to the Town.” admin@connectvictoriapark.org | connectvictoriapark.org |
