Education and Schools Overview
Townsville City Council is once again proud to offer schools in the region the opportunity to be involved with Ephemera programs. We have two fantastic Townsville City Galleries schools projects exhibiting in Ephemera this year. There is Ephemera Aquarium, an artwork made by Townsville primary schools and local artists Cassie Roberts and Lisa Ashcroft, and we have Kaleidoscope created by students from Annandale Christian College, Heatley Secondary College, Townsville and North Queensland Homeschool Group, Townsville State High School, and Queensland Pathways State College with local artist Jo Stacey. There is plenty to be involved with along The Strand too! Take a picture in our Canine Cut Out and Viewing Frames, and be sure to share your pictures with us online! We also have a fun treasure hunt with our mascot Inspector Clouseau for all festival visitors to enjoy. Educational resources have been developed for self-guided learning adventures along The Strand. We have an Activity Sheet that has been designed for primary school aged students, and an Interactive Sheet that has been created for secondary school aged students. Simply head to our website or click on the images to download each resource to print at home, then bring along when you visit Ephemera!

ACTIVITYACTIVITY SHEETSHEET
Hi, my name is Inspector Clouseau and I’m here to guide you through the Ephemera Activity Sheet!
EPHEMERA AQUARIUM
Ephemera Aquarium is an artwork created by Townsville primary school students in collaboration with Townsville City Galleries and local artists Lisa Ashcroft and Cassie Roberts. In this fun and ephemeral schools project, students created a range of paper clay sea creatures to put in our aquarium on The Strand!

INTERACTIVE SHEET Ephemera has been a part of Townsville’s cultural identity for 20 years. It is by far our city’s most visited visual arts event, and has hosted countless local, national, and international artists. This seaside sculpture festival brings together the community from far and wide, to celebrate sun, sand, and art - tropical North Queensland style. This Interactive Sheet is specifically designed for secondary school age students, so have a go at some of the questions as you make your way through Ephemera!
I WISH YOU WERE HERE
Carla Gottgens’ artwork, I wish you were here, merges a pixelated computer view with reality. The impacts of COVID 19 has seen many of us staying connecting with loved ones through our computer screens. Inspired by these often broken video calls, what do you think Carla Gottgens is wanting to convey to the viewer with this artwork?

When creating an artwork for Ephemera, artists have to think about how they will install their artwork and consider things such as environmental impact. The environment should be returned to the same state that it was found in prior to Ephemera, without any destruction, damage or waste left behind. What considerations would Carla have taken into account when developing her proposal?VIEW
