SWORDS TO PLOUGHSHARES: THE LIVES OF TOWNSVILLE’S RETURNED SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN CityLibraries Flinders Street, Eddie Koiki Mabo Library JCU and the Museum of Tropical Queensland During each venue’s opening hours

FREE The Centenary of Armistice provides a unique opportunity to consider how those who served during World War I returned from war and continued contributing to their communities. This exhibition explores the later lives of some of those returned men and women, and the benefits they bestowed on Townsville. Presented by James Cook University in collaboration with CityLibraries Townsville’s Local History Collection, JCU Library Special Collections and the Museum of Tropical North Queensland Funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as part of the Centenary of Armistice

FREE Immersed takes the viewers through Alison McDonald’s journey, reflecting on the fundamental and essential daily need for water in various forms. Each item is imbued with intricate water patterns using light as a metaphor for water, another necessity that seeps into everyday life. FREE This year the exhibition is a dual exhibition of graduates of University of Canberra Bachelor of Visual Arts studying at TAFE with students of the Advanced Diploma, Diploma and Certificate III in Visual Arts. Titled CANdid, the exhibition reveals frank explorations of personal and global concepts in processes consistent with the level of learning and development of each individual. FREE North Queensland exudes an energy unlike anywhere else in Australia. This is a difficult essence to pinpoint; an enigmatic and all-embracing aura reflective of climate and environment. This energy has engendered an authenticity of artistic expression amongst local artists, whose work reflects a sense of loyalty and identity to their environment, community, heritage, and future. Utopia Tropicae: The Spirit of the North seeks to celebrate these artists, who reside in, or, who have a strong connection to Townsville, Cairns, and the wider NQ region, and who have made an enduring commitment towards the area’s visual arts and cultural conversation.
