MAYOR’S MESSAGE The North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) is back! Bigger, better and even more outrageous than before. With over 400 events locked in across a number of genres and locations around our city, Townsville City Council is once again proud to present the wonders of NAFA throughout the month of July. This teaser program is a little insight into some of the wonders that will be on show. From world class headliners to undiscovered talent from right in our own backyard, NAFA provides our community more than a month of entertainment, it brings our city to life and highlights why we choose to live in Townsville, the capital of Northern Australia. Watch in awe as Townsville is transformed into an arts and culture mecca through the wonders of the Northern Fringe festival - setting our pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes abuzz with activity and joy. So get excited to get out and about to enjoy the North Australian Festival of Arts in all its glory in a COVID-safe manner in 2021.

3, 4 JULY THE VILLE HEADLAND A ground-breaking celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, song, dance, and storytelling. Against a mosaic of land and water, gather under the starry sky to experience a bold and ambitious performance that pushes the boundaries of traditional and contemporary dance and music, featuring six local First Nations groups and the Dancenorth Ensemble. Closing out the performance is award-winning multilingual rapper Baker Boy.

Smoked out and forced to congregate at the edge of town, each having relinquished their home, and life as they know it, to the raging fire that now encircles them. A beaten-up old cattle truck becomes their only way out – if they can get it going. A show rich with choreography and extreme physicality, these four lives are all thrust together as fragments in time play out, is it memory or fantasy?

A Fast Life on Wheels is Ferguson’s personal tragicomic story showing how fast life in a wheelchair can go. Tim proves disability is not the end. His Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has put him in a wheelchair, plaguing him with various daunting symptoms you don’t want to know about. But MS won’t stop Australia’s busiest comedian, screenwriter, movie maker, author and comedy writing teacher. “Forget comic timing,” Tim says, “I’m in a hurry!”
