Executive Summary Message from the Mayor We are fortunate to live in a progressive and vibrant city that presents a large number of events and community programs, making Townsville’s lifestyle both exciting and enjoyable. The Together Townsville program provides the opportunity for organisations to honour their corporate responsibility by giving back to the wider community. The program is more than just sponsorship; it is strategic investment that benefits all stakeholders involved. This publication details the Together Townsville partnering program, outlines the benefits for your organisation, and presents available initiatives to choose from. Council welcomes the opportunity to either form new or strengthen existing ties with organisations while making Townsville a better place to live for all.
Les Tyrell oam Mayor of Townsville
Together Townsville is an innovative program that actively engages our corporate and community groups in the sponsorship of council events and projects that benefit our city and our residents. Historically, council has sought sponsorship from organisations for various events or projects. This ad-hoc approach was deemed to be a one-way relationship and simply a passive handover of money from the sponsor to council with short term brand value-recognition. There is a definite shift from simple sponsorships to more strategic community partnerships for many organisations. Organisations are looking for ways to invest their time, personnel and resources to achieve objectives that benefit their community. People, communities, governments and businesses increasingly want to make a difference and be seen to be doing so. This partnership program promotes mutually beneficial collaboration between businesses and the community to provide more efficient and long-term solutions to community issues and builds greater social cohesion.

It will contribute towards economic sustainability for our tourist operators as well as provide opportunities for locals to explore and advocate their region. The Townsville Tourism Expo was identified as a need from the ‘gap analysis’ conducted by Economic Development. It was found that Townsville can be quite transient and many locals did not know what tourism experiences and products are available in our region.
