Introduction Townsville City Council has a range of free and low-cost education opportunities available for students of all ages. This document aims to provide an overview of these opportunities in a quick and easy-access format, fitting in to subject and curriculum requirements. Council currently owns and operates two premier galleries, three library branches and two theatre venues, all of which provide unique education opportunities to complement your teaching. Council also provides online learning opportunities through databases, local history resources, and access to websites such as Your Tutor which provide personal tutoring sessions for students. We encourage you to explore the booklet and check back to the page regularly for new opportunities. Please contact the relevant areas listed in the booklet for further information.

ARTIST-IN-SCHOOLS Gallery Services engages artists to work in high schools on any subject matter and produce artworks for exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery or Pinnacles Gallery. Gallery Services employs the local artists who then transfer skills to both students and teachers, encouraging the development of visual arts.

SUMMER READING CLUB The Summer Reading Club encourages children and young people to discover all kinds of stories. The activities developed for the online site and programs delivered in local libraries encourage a love of reading and multi-literacy skill development among children and young people. Education resources are available for each main exhibition and are designed to assist teachers in providing learning outcomes for students that link with the curriculum and the themes explored within the works on display. Gallery Services also offer free exhibition tours on request.

EAST COAST ENCOUNTERS East Coast Encounter includes the work of Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and writers to re-envisage the encounter by James Cook and his crew with Aboriginal people in 1770. YOUNG INDIGENOUS PRINTMAKERS

ART-IN-A-SUITCASE

Gallery Services, Townsville City Council, in collaboration with Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts, initiates and funds the Young Indigenous Printmakers. The Program seeks to foster and promote artistic development and engage local Indigenous high school students to work with printmaking artists to produce a series of prints for exhibition.

Art-In-A-Suitcase is a free, ongoing program that brings local artists into your classroom, engaging primary school students to create artwork that will then be exhibited at either Perc Tucker Regional Gallery or Pinnacles Gallery. The artists bring artwork from the City of Townsville Art Collection and deliver an art workshop.

AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR TALKS AND WORKSHOPS

3D PRINTING Hands on information session for those who want an introduction to 3D printing and scanners. In this session you will learn the basics of how to use the 3D printer and create a simple 3D model.
