The winning entries were showcased in the book “The character of Townsville: a community photography book” published by the Council in 1991.

Brisbane-born Richard Dunlop’s much admired poetic interpretations of the landscape as a living, ever-changing force are exhibited together for the first time in A Northern Survey. Themes of psychological shifts associated with seasonal and climatic change are evident in ambitiouslyscaled paintings addressing aspects of life relevant to the North. The biennial North Queensland Ceramic Awards has long aimed to increase public exposure of pottery from around the nation. A showcase for both well-known and emerging artists, this competition displays the diversity of ceramic art currently being produced in Australia. The City of Townsville Art Collection Award of $10,000 continues to provide both opportunity for artists to become a part of one of the nation’s most significant ceramic collections.
