Skins, shells, and screens make up the language of this project. Shops are currently under development in various Japanese cities.

Retail Environments & Systems - Louis Vuitton Originally conceived as a limited system, the Minimal Shop System by Studio Power for Louis Vuitton is being used in all of the new major Louis Vuitton shops worldwide. In addition Tim Power Architects was requested to redesign furniture and display for merchandising such as Jewelry, Scarves, Ties, Shoes, Mens Ready to Wear. These new systems have been subsequently value engineered to respond to the request to maintain an exclusive environment while saving up to 50% on furniture production and installation costs.

In 2001, a brief was presented to Studio Power by Louis Vuitton to develop a simplified shop system for new Asian Projects. Together with the in-house LV design team, a layout concept was conceived which allowed for an increased proximity between the client and the merchandise itself. This point of departure allowed for the new system to be conceived of simple interlocking and stacked volumes, creating an almost architectural-like landscape. The existing language of the historic Louis Vuitton shop system was respected and referred too, but in this project, Louis Vuitton has been given a system with a language that brings the same intensity and modernity being developed for their buildings into their retail environments.

Retail Environment - Milano - Muji

Exhibit Space - Milano - Muji

In 2004 Tim Power Architects completed works on the first Muji shop located in Italy. This shop has set new commercial standards for Muji on a global scale. For a full year after opening, the revenue per square meter in this store was top amongst the over 300 Muji retail outlets worldwide. The 450 square meters of retail space was designed and constructed in very quick time, and is a push towards making Muji shops more efficiently and eco-friendly on a global level - this shop was the first Muji shop globally to be conceived entirely using ecologically sound materials and systems.

This installation from 2003 constitutes the first cultural exhibit in Europe by the Japanese company Muji. Housed in a historic factory, the exhibit introduced to the public during the International furniture fair the philosophy of Muji. Large graphic panels and objects were positioned opposite each other to complete the perimeter, with furniture and a glowing polypropylene box occupying the central area. The project was done in collaboration with NDC (kenya hara) - Superpotato (Tokyo) and the Muji Design team (naoto fukasawa).

Retail Concept - Concept Shop - Celux Located on the top four floors of the Louis Vuitton building in Omotesando Tokyo, this members only club offers a lounge and shopping zone for a highly exclusive clientele. The rare fashion and home items that are available to the guests are specifically designed by the 12 fashions houses found under the LVMH umbrella. The principle architectural intervention was to link both major levels spatially and commercially, creating a background for the ever-changing seasons of products on display. Product display was concentrated on the two longitudinal elevations, extending the full height of the vertical planes. One of the keys was to break the connotations of Luxury and Fashion by breaching the expected traditional use of Architectural materials and their placement. Custom materials, furniture and light fixtures with industry leaders were developed specifically for this project.

Located in a historic industrial site, this office constituted the largest Design Center outside of the Motorola home base in Chicago. These differences were accentuated in the division of the functions inherent in the experimental structure of client. Systems include rain and freshwater collectors, vertical air exchange (for purification of air and for active hot/cold air exchange integrated with the air-conditioning systems and various greenhouses located throughout the project) - roof gardens are conceived to stabilize temperature control, and are integrated into active bokashi ‘structural ducts’ running vertically throughout the various buildings. House for a Single Male - GQ Magazine

135 House - Private Residence - Milano

The magazine GQ asked Studio Power, Werner Aislinger, Gaetano Pesce and Jean Marie Maussaud to design a house for the single male. Urban Projects

Giardini di Porta Nuova - Milano - 2nd Phase This competition entry for the new Gardens of Porta Nuova emerges from a group effort headed by Adriaan Geuze and his West8 studio together with Studio Power, Paolo Pomodoro and C.S.T. The group was founded on, and work departed from, a common belief –‘ No good park can exist unless it is well connected to the adjacent neighborhoods’In order to provide proper connections with the park, the master plan recently approved by the City of Milan was entirely reconfigured in the groups competition scheme. Having solved the major urban dilemmas, the group proposed 120,000 square meters of elaborate public park space, a delightful and necessary new asset offering the Milanese numerous places of spectacle and play.

Stadtpark Hardau Competition - Zurich - 1st Phase This competition entry for a new Stadtpark in Zurich proposes that the park becomes a cartographic map of itself and its history. Previously the area hosted a large sawmill, where wood was delivered, cut and then stacked to age. Studio Power proposes that the entire area is excavated and that a new parking area be covered with a thin concrete membrane. Natural forces metaphorically acting on this new membrane deform it as in nature and water pushing down cuts sharply into the land and creates a lake; trees pulled toward the sun create round hills. This process of deformation, of folding and pulling, create openings that allow for sunlight and air to penetrate into the parking structure below. A small pavilion is found at the heart of the park, between the forest the lake. Thin, precise metal blades sustain the roof of this wooden mill.

San Jose State University Museum of Art and Design Competition - 1st Phase - San Jose - United States This competition entry by Studio Power for the San Jose State University Museum of Art and Design focuses on resolving the perimeter of the ‘unfinished’ educational building of the department of art and design as well as establishing a world class museum for contemporary art and design. The proposed educational building resonates permanence though its use of solid, unadorned, natural materials, whereas its irregular forms respond to the uncertainties and questions posed in the contemporary art and design worlds. Natural light filters into the educational facilities as well as the museum from overscaled openings found throughout the ceilings, walls and floors of the structure.

This competition entry proposes a structure composed essentially of two buildings which follow the landscape and contours of the site and situation. The two buildings are delineated as the ‘air building’ and the ‘land building’ . The air building is conceived to house the permanent exhibits of Tomihiros illustrations and perches atop two landmasses, spanning the water like a bridge. It is constructed primarily of steel and glass. The land building nestles into the terrain of a pluvial inlet and houses the offices and lecture areas. It is constructed of concrete tinted with the almost black rock sedimentary deposits found on-site. Tomihiro was paralyzed at an early age and has passed his entire life in a wheelchair, from which he paints delicate watercolors with a brush held in his mouth. The museum complex proposed by Studio Power reflects the beauty and simplicity of agile lightness perched atop a heavy, immobile body.
