According to the online version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of design is "to create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan". Well, designing may not be the simplest thing for most of us to do, but creating a web design is easier than you may think. With some forethought, access to the right tools and some uninterrupted time you can create a great design for your website. Just Start Where? Okay, so maybe not every marketer is able to create an awesome web design but there are some things you should be aware of to ensure that when you do have your website designed that key points are included. If you decide to create your own design, you should do some research first and find out what the latest and greatest is. Ask your peers or simply check out the websites of your competitors. If you have someone else do the creating, they should understand the concept of Internet marketing so that the final product will fulfill your marketing needs. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Search engine optimization or SEO should be a primary concern for your site. The site's content should be keyword friendly, have zero duplicate content, be search engine friendly, include semantic mark-ups, be in local Google listings, have correct coding for HTML, Javascript and CSS are just several important features that need to be addressed. User Friendly Another key point to address is that the website should be user friendly. This is an absolute must to ensure that every visitor is able to maneuver and navigate themselves throughout the website without any issues. There should be places where the user can interact (such as taking a poll) and provide feedback or a testimonial. The appearance of the web design should be enticing to keep visitors at the site and encourage them to visit other places on your website. Homepage Keep the most important information on the homepage and ensure an index or site directory is easily available to keep that page clean and informative. This is the probably the most important page on your website. It needs to do everything for the reader all at once. The homepage should be attractive, should be easy to read, and should be informative. The right fonts, styles, colors, layout, automated animation, graphics are all key to creating an enticing and profitable website. Sub-Pages
The web design should include multiple pages so that categories can be separated. You don't want to cram everything on the main page; if you did, your site would not be user friendly and the visitor wouldn't know where to begin. Using subpages to contain your "Privacy Policy" or "Contact Us" areas helps to organize and create a functional website. In addition, each page should be able to redirect the visitor back to "home" without any issues. Also, every page should have the same color scheme and basic layout or have some sort of familiarity to them. Obviously not every aspect of creating the perfect web design could be noted here, but some key points have been pointed out so you can make the most of your website. There are tools available to track visitors and which page they prefer; these are helpful to determine if one page requires tweaking to bring it up to par with the rest of the website. Use a template, find a great designer or do a combination of both but with some knowledge and useful information you can design a great website!
