Peppermint Stick Ice Cream As a child, there was nothing more exciting than taking a trip to the local ice cream parlor on a cool summer evening. I never waffled on my order! One scoop of homemade peppermint stick ice cream, in a cone, topped with jimmies! Simply the best way ever to end those perfect beach days.
Jimmy’s favorite childhood food
Making spaghetti and meatballs I enjoy cooking and have fond memories of spaghetti and meatballs. It represents one of the first things I made as a nine-year-old with my grandmother and mom. My parents were new to the United States, and an Italian American friend of my mom taught her how to mix the beef, onions, egg, breadcrumbs and various spices in. It was a messy and hands-on process perfect for a kid, and I enjoyed rolling the mixture into balls and spacing them out on a tray with my siblings. I appreciated the synergy of the different preparations required and the whole family effort. The tastes of the tomato sauce, the meatballs, the spaghetti came together so well. It is still my favorite food. It also represented our assimilation to American culture, working together and discovering tastes of our new home together.
My favorite childhood comfort food is made with love from the Midwest! Start with thick-sliced Iowa smoked ham and add your favorite Wisconsin cheese! My favorite is Colby-Jack. The best bread is my mom’s homemade thick-sliced sourdough, slathered with fresh cream butter and grilled on the stove in a cast iron pan! ~Tracey H.

My favorite childhood food--Mac n’ Cheese I have always loved macaroni and cheese--all types of macaroni and cheese. I love: fat noodles, skinny noodles, white cheese, orange cheese, homemade, from a box. Mac n’ cheese is my comfort food, my go-to when I have had a long day, the first thing I eat when I haven't been feeling well. I probably could eat Mac n’ cheese every day without complaint!
