First Blush thoughts:
Traffic Notes:
- System is as follows: Shortest to Tallest (to account for car height and eyelines) - At front of the screen sits Sedans - Behind are Hatchbacks - Behind are SUVs - Behind is Trucks
Traffic - Entrance Plan:
- Staff members serve as usher’s for entrancing and exiting, Three Staff manning tickets in the student parking lot, one handling concession stand to keep things moving. - Cars will enter through the Student Parking Lot gate, ushered by students out of costume and remaining and VOLUNTEERING staff. - Ominous Music will be playing, most likely the Harry Manfredini Friday score, possibly the Shining Theme. - As cars enter, the entrance gate will be shut, giving a small scare. All lights off, Students will be fully costumed, ready to haunt, and prepared for the night behind the shed/ in the Tractor Shed. - Staff will be outside, ready to assist in case of emergency, and monitoring.
Traffic - Exit Plan:
- At the end of the show, a staff member shall open the gate to shooting stars, and along with three others (coming from concessions and tickets,) will take two slashers at each gate, sending the other two staff at the second gate to usher cars out through the gates and to keep traffic moving. - Slashers will have masks off, candy in hand, smiling and waving people out, giving out the last of the candy in droves to the cars as they exit. - As all cars have exited, Staff will close the gates and walk students back to Shooting stars, closing the gate behind them to satisfy Mr. Stocks’ guidelines on the gate. - A small break will occur for all slashers to exit costumes, dry off, rehydrate, grab something to eat, and go back out to strike. - The screen, stations, lights, and soundboard should be done by the end of the night (Bare Minimum.)
Our plan were to use one gate for entrance, use both for the exit. Have slashers stand at exits to say goodbye and hand out the last bits of candy. Would need chaperones to watch students. Possible second exit Platform - band stairs or smth
Below is the planned parking lot arrangement that will be used in our show this year. The black spaces represent a car that will be in that used on the day of the show. We would use an alternating pattern that would allow cars to be able to see the screen because a larger car would most likely not be in front of them. With the arrangement, we would have 34 cars and would fill in the remaining spaces if the original 34 were filled up.

This sheet was done in order to count out how many spaces we would use as well as know what car spaces were in which row. We found out the following
Row One closest to the Tractor Shed had spaces44 to 60
Row Two had spaces- 65 to 81
Row Three had spaces- 118 to 134
Row four had spaces- 139 to 155
On the Evening:
Last year, Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Deal-Flynn handled all the traffic in the pouring rain. Mrs. Mrs. Chiles sold tickets at the front gate near side of school. The car then headed to the creepy cloth area that was set up under the trees so the car drives through. They were then met with Mrs. Deal-Flynn who told them to drive slowly to Mrs. Rice. Mrs. Rice then helped cars park. She used a flashlight to help direct them. However, it was difficult to park in the dark and rain and she tried to put smaller cars up front for better viewing.
This year, Mrs. Rice came up with a system of 1, 2, 3, or 4. The 1 and 2 numbers represented small cars and 3 & 4 large cars. Mrs. Chiles helped again selling tickets at the gate. She also then gave each car a number. Mrs. Cushner (Christian’s mom) helped under the trees. She told them to drive slowly to Mrs. Rice. She used a walkie talkie to communicate with Mrs. Rice on the car number. Melly’s dad (who is a police officer) parked each car. They wore orange vests. Mrs. Rice would tell the car to go to him. He had a proper orange/red light for traffic. He parked them skipping spaces.
The system worked for the most part but some cars were deemed 3 but in fact they were more of a 4. Cars still had a difficult time seeing things like the Slash Zone area and the platform entrances. However, everyone could see and hear the screen and trailers. Two street lights were left on and for next year it would be even better if the one closet to the building was turned off. It was still safe enough to see in the parking lot.
One real drawback was that it took forever to park cars! The show started more like 8 pm instead of 7:30 pm. Maybe next year we have a start time of 7 pm for 7:30 pm. The actors who were in the coffin and scarecrow bar were waiting for so long!
Need another walkie talkie for Melly’s dad or third person in parking lot. Maybe the rows could be marked off so they might be able to park themselves?
The biggest rows were 3 and 4. Row 2 hardly had anyone in it. It was mostly 1s and 4s.
