Bar 190 ‘Cinderella’s Carriage’ at Bar 190 is for fairy-tale loving ‘girly girls’ everywhere. The booth, recessed into the dark wood panelling, has been reimagined as a golden Elizabethan coach, upholstered in plush velvet and festooned with ostrich feathers. Bookable for a minimum spend of £100, a personal footman bearing a glass slipper of strawberries is available at an extra cost. Don’t worry, it won’t turn into a pumpkin at midnight. That romantic dinner à deux with your loved one is never quite so special when you’re stuck in a huge dining room with a hundred other couples just like you. When we want to feel as unique as we are, it calls for something more intimate, away from prying eyes. Private dining rooms for two are the dream solution. Ideal for proposals, exchanging rings, even a blush-free smooch, check out these for your next Madame Bovary moment.

Champor-Champor The special ‘Mezzanine’ table for two is as fabulous as can be, raised above the rest of the modern ‘Malay-Asian’ dining room. Diners can choose a three-course or tasting menu to enjoy on their extravagantly decorated perch. The award-winning cooking is just as unusual: think sea bass with sour mango or pigeon and plum hotpot. Three courses, £29. 62-64 Weston Street SE1 020 7403 4600 www.champor-champor.com

The Landau The Langham’s Landau restaurant, a handsome space by über designer David Collins, has got two circular ‘snugs’ recessed off the main room with subtly gilded screens to pull across for extra privacy. We recommend one of chef Andrew Turner’s ‘grazing’ menus (from £57.50) featuring such dishes as chicken consommé with truffle bonbon or suckling pig lasagne with salsify. If one of Mosimann’s members is in your little black book, why not invite yourself along to the Belgravia club to sample culinary maestro Anton Mosimann’s heavenly cuisine and luxuriate in the shimmery gold Montblanc room. There’s even a special button for summoning the waiter. 11b West Halkin Street SW1 020 7235 9625 www.mosimann.com

Suka Trust the perennially chic Sanderson to create such an elegant séparée! Separated from the riffraff by a curtain of black tassels, the India Mahdavi designed room boasts a beautiful glass table, and elegant high backed chairs. The modern Malaysian dishes e.g. papaya and pork belly salad, £11, and lemongrass seabass in chilli lime broth, £26, always put us in mind of a holiday.
