"The Orchid Garden" is a mystery novel set in China and Kansas. The action moves across the international date line as the heroine, Kat, searches for the cause of her aunt's murder and the fey nine-year old Chinese her aunt hoped to adopt. The girl is being hidden by an underground Christian network, persecuted by the Chinese government. The girl is mute, but her drawings seem to have mystical powers.
As the murderer arrives in Kansas looking for Kat, she must depend on the alliances she has made with her local police force and with a rich Hong Kong businessman.
