Nowhere captures London's passion for fresh good food better than the vibrant Borough Market. Under the shadow of the city's latest landmark, the towering Shard, some 70 independent food stalls offers a bonanza of smell, taste and colour everyday between Winchester Walk to the north, Stoney Street to the west, Borough High Street to the south and Southwark Cathedral to the east.

Photo Credit: London on View Comprised of three indoor sections - Jubilee Place, Green Market and Three Crown Square - the Borough Market is a grocery market as well as a junction for the top street foods in London. You can track down a wide range of fresh, organic produce here. The list runs from fish and meats to vegetables and coffees. The cooked foods are as diverse as London's rainbow population. Jolly Germans gather queues with their grilled-on-site Bratwürsts, Spanish lures passers-by a large pan of sensational Paella and the smiley Chinese chef delivers a bowl of dainty fried dumplings. You see an interesting mix of patrons stream through the market. Local housewives get their organic shopping done here; clerks from nearby office buildings flock over during lunch hours; curious tourists snap selfies with a scoop of goat's milk ice cream; and serious London foodies queue up to get their regular fix. th
Billed as the oldest and largest food and veg market in London, trading from the 13 century on, Borough Market is never short of magnetic vendors. Spanish grocer Brindisa on Stoney Street (open Tuesday to Saturday) is one of the most popular spot in today's Borough Market. This charming store carries top-notch Spanish food ingredients such as Ibéricoham and artisan cheese. Nearby sister restaurant Tapas Brindisa (open Monday to Sunday) offers probably the most outstanding tapas in the city. The Ginger Pig butcher near the Rochester Walk has long been trumpeted for its super fresh meats, poultry and sausages from the English countryside. If you're in the mood for a hearty pie, head to award-winning pie maker Pieminister (open Monday to Saturday) in the Green Market to choose from its mind-boggling selections of these stuffed pastries. To experience typical British pub culture, head to the Market Porter on Stoney Street. This long-established market pub celebrates its own mini beer festival everyday with up to nine traditional ales which are constantly changing. When the weather is nice, find a spot outside of the Southward Cathedral for people-watching, a great way to feel London's charm, energy and multiculturalism. The Borough Market is open on Monday and Tuesday during lunch hours, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 8am-5pm.
