Eco Voltz Equestrian is launching an Unsung Hero Award to recognise the hard work of grooms, supporters and volunteers at Belsay International Horse Trials. Grooms and support teams are key to helping riders achieve their goals, and they also share in the low points when things don’t go to plan. BE Volunteers are the heart and soul of any event and without their help it would simply not be impossible to run the events that we all love so much. The lucky winner of this award will receive a bottle of champagne and a £250 cheque. Nominations are now closed. The winner will be announced during Belsay International Horse Trials 2nd-5th June 2022.
A very warm welcome to
We are delighted to welcome you to Belsay International 2022, coinciding this year with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Queen Elizabeth II is one of our most legendary horsewomen and we wish her every health and happiness in the 70th year of her reign. Belsay has only been running as an event since 2013 but many of our sponsors have been around as long as, if not longer, than our dear Queen. Barbour has been our lead sponsor for many years and we are delighted to welcome Dame Margaret Barbour to Belsay once again this year. We have been very lucky to also receive the backing of a host of other great companies – Womble Bond Dickinson, Galbraith, Ryecroft Glenton, Lycetts, Brewin Dolphin, Bellway Homes, the Apartment Group, Jobling Purser, JR Holland, Metnor Group, Millers Auctioneers, Charles Nicholson Wealth Management and InXpress Tyne and Wear, to name but a few. We are also very grateful to our special Official Equine Partners, Saracens Horse Feed, Equine Products UK, Voltaire, Empire Coachbuilders and new to Belsay this year, EcoVoltz Electric Bikes, who you can find around the main international arena with their trade stand. Eco-Voltz have worked with us to launch a wonderful new prize – the Unsung Hero Award – for the Most Hardworking Volunteer, Groom or Supporter and we look forward to announcing the winner of this. Eventing could not function without the army of volunteers and supporters that work so hard behind the scenes to help organisers and competitors alike – thank you Eco Voltz for helping us to recognise all these wonderful people. This year we are delighted to welcome more new sponsors to Belsay including Shortflatt Tower, a wonderful local wedding and event venue, Wallhouse Surveyors, NIS Constructions Services, Carrs Billingon, Mark Noble Equine Chiropractor, Todburn Equestrian and Serenity Equine Therapy.
Belsay is now into its second year as an international fixture and we are absolutely thrilled to host the the British Pony Championship and the CCI2*-L for Juniors. Youth eventing is flourishing in the UK and we are extremely excited to watch these young competitors as they vie for a place on our European Eventing Squads. The GB Pony Squad will this year head to Strzegom in Poland, while the Junior u18 Squad will compete against their European counterparts at Hartpury in Gloucestershire later in the Summer. Our thanks to Ian Barrett and Project Pony, a fabulous new initiative supporting young talent in eventing, for their huge support of the British Pony Championship at Belsay. .
New for 2022 is the very exciting Northumberland CCI2*-S Challenge which gives riders an opportunity to win a great cash prize. Generously sponsored by A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products, the CCI2*-S Northumberland Challenge begins at Belsay and runs across Alnwick Ford and Burgham International Horse Trials to offer horse and rider combinations entering the CCI2*-S at all three venues the opportunity to win cash bonuses as follows: · Horse and rider combinations who achieve a top 3 placing in the CC12*-S at all three events will win a £3,000 bonus. · A horse & rider combination who wins the CCI2*-S at two of the three events will win a further £7,000 bonus, so a total of £10,000. · A horse & rider combination who wins the CCI2*-S at all three events will win a further bonus of £12,000, making an amazing total of £22,000.
As well as our internationals, we have BE national classes from BE90 through to Open Intermediate including the exciting new Intermediate Masters class, taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile our Castle and Hall Arenas feature National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Show Jumping on Friday and the British Show Pony Society Working Hunter Show on Saturday, with Arena Eventing, Young Horse Performance Classes and Belsay’s infamous Inter-Hunt Relay on Sunday. We also have lots of activity everyday for your canine four legged friends in our dog arena. Belsay has once again attracted some fabulous trade stands, offering a great selection of clothing, jewellery, craft, food, sporting goods and all sorts. Please do go and spend some time and money with them! Finally, this year we are supporting two very worthwhile charities – British Equestrians for Ukraine and The British Eventing Support Trust. The British Eventing Support Trust (BEST) which was recently launched with the help of our sponsor Lycetts provides invaluable support for injured event riders and aims to improve the safety and wellbeing of the people at the heart of our sport. This year, we are thinking especially of our dear friend Nicola Wilson who suffered a heavy fall at Badminton Horse Trials and send her our very best wishes for a good recovery. Our thanks go out to Nicola’s friends and fellow riders Oliver Townend, Tina Cook, Bubby Upton and others who have given their time and support to BEST. We would like to extend massive thank you to everyone who is involved at Belsay – our sponsors, trade stands, volunteer jump judges and stewards, contractors, the competitors and last but not least our hardworking committee. We wish you all the best for an enjoyable and successful weekend!
Best Wishes
Laura & Peter de Wesselow With special thanks to: The Trustees of The Belsay Trust, Timmy Norton, The Waddell Family, The Wood Family, Tom & Di Harrison, Jamie Innes, John Brown Swinburne, English Heritage, Angus Thompson, all our sponsors, volunteers, stewards & jump judges.

Charity Support
A popular course walk with Tina Cook will take place on the XC on Thursday 2nd June at 4pm, in aid of British Eventing Support Trust. Tickets can be purchased at £5 per person on our website. Further events and fundraising will take place throughout the weekend and in hospitality.
Charity Support The British Eventing Support Trust The British Eventing Support Trust provides invaluable support for injured event riders and to improve the safety and wellbeing of the people at the heart of our sport. The trust aims to help riders through difficult times, whether that be recovering from an eventing accident or coping with mental health challenges. It also seeks to promote, research, develop and implement initiatives which will help maintain the overall safety and welfare of our riders. A number of high-profile riders are already lending their support to the work of the Trust; including Tokyo Olympic Gold medallists, Oliver Townend, Tom McEwen and Laura Collett. Badminton Winner Laura knows first-hand how invaluable a helping hand can be when things go wrong – she benefitted greatly from being able to use the services at the Injured Jockeys Fund’s facility, Oaksey House, following a serious fall back in 2013. Lycetts, one of Belsay International’s longest serving sponsors, has been instrumental in the launch of the BE Support Trust.

British Equestrians for Ukraine Leading organisations and individuals across Britain’s equestrian community have united to form ‘British Equestrians for Ukraine’ which aims to help horses and their owners caught up in the crisis created by the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian Equestrian Federation has put out an urgent call for supplies on the ground including feed, forage and shavings and with a groundswell of support from our industry, there was a clear need to help co-ordinate the offers of assistance from leading brands as well as raise money to fund aid directly where it’s needed most. Spearheaded by British Equestrian (BEF), The British Horse Society (BHS), the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) and World Horse Welfare with the support of member bodies across the industry, British Equestrians for Ukraine has been set up to help facilitate a supply chain to meet the immediate need for goods on the ground as well as raising money to help purchase supplies and cover the costs associated with transport.
