– shaving cream article to include
There’s nothing quite like the experience of traditional shaving. It is essential to use a shaving cream to produce a wonderfully rich, moisturising and lubricating lather. Shaving cream can be applied using the fingertips but the results are even better when used with a quality shaving brush. The Traditional Shaving Company stocks some of the finest quality shaving creams available in the UK and the rest of the world.
Choosing the right shaving cream for you It is important when choosing a shaving cream that you choose the right one for you, but where do you begin when there are so many shapes, sizes, scents and textures? It’s important to get the best quality product for your skin so be sure to look out for shaving creams that include natural ingredients such as essential oils like eucalyptus, lime and sandalwood that will benefit the health of your skin and the quality of your shave. Note: If you have sensitive skin and are worried about shaving cream having a bad effect on your skin there are multiple choice products that are suitable for sensitive skin.
As long as you choose to shave with an established provider of shaving creams with a long history in the industry such as Taylor Of Old Bond Street and Castle Forbes, you know you are in safe hands. Once you take into account the natural essential oils of your choice product and whether or not it is more suitable for sensitive skin the next choice you need to make is scent.
A wide variety of scents are available across all brands ranging from Castle Forbes Lime Shaving Cream, Geo F Trumper Almond Shaving Cream to the more traditional D R Harris Arlington Shaving Cream (available in a range of scents).

Prepping Your Shaving Cream To begin your shave, start by washing your face. It is important not to skip giving your face a splash of warm water as this not only cleans your face of dirt and oil but softens your hair and the pores in your skin, creating a smoother and less irritating shaving experience. Now you have chosen a shaving cream, prepare it by making a lather. You must first soak your badger brush or boar brush in hot water for a couple of minutes. Badger and boar hair is different to most animal hair in that it absorbs water rather than repels it. By soaking the brush you allow it to absorb a large amount of water to help produce your lather.
You now have a choice of where to build the cream into a lather. This can be done in the palm of your hand, a shaving bowl or directly onto your face. To build the lather simply swirl the brush around inside the shaving bowl until the consistency stops changing which can take up to a minute. Once you have your lather at the right consistency you need to apply it to your face. Begin by applying the brush with a circular scrubbing motion around the face and neck. This will exfoliate the skin, raise the beard hairs and surround each whisker with lather. The longer you do this process the better as it also helps to soften the beard.
