Home Remedies for Vaginal Yeast Infection
Vaginal yeast infections can be uncomfortable and generally frustrating to deal with. Thankfully, however, there are natural cures for yeast infections that will treat the infection and provide relief. If you experience vaginal yeast infection symptoms, you can take a yeast infection test which should be available at your local drug store, or you can get tested at your primary caregiver’s office.
Plain Yogurt Yogurt is one of the best and most common home remedies for vaginal yeast infection. If you’re prone to vaginal yeast infections, add these probiotics into your diet. Make sure that the label mentions “live cultures” or something similar.
You can use the yogurt as a topical or internal ointment as well. In that case, it’s important to make sure it has no fruit, sugar, or flavoring of any kind. Cover the cotton of a tampon in the yogurt and insert it, leaving it in for about an hour. You can do this up to two or three times daily. The friendly bacteria in the yogurt will fight the yeast and provide immediate relief when used in this fashion.
Probiotics If you don’t want to eat a lot of yogurt, you can buy probiotics capsules instead. Apple Cider Vinegar There are a couple of ways to use apple cider vinegar as a natural cure for yeast infection. Dilute the ACV in water before using so it doesn’t sting. Don’t use any other type of vinegar because they can actually feed the infection.
Option 1: ACV Bath Add two cups of ACV to warm bath water and soak in it for about 15-30 minutes. Bend knees towards your chest for maximum effect. Gently pat dry when you get out.
Option 2: Make your own Douche Mix 3 tablespoons of ACV in 2 quarts of warm water. Use pure, filtered water. If you don’t have a water filter, boil the water and let it cool before use. Douche with the mixture at least two times daily while symptoms are present. You can cut down to once daily when symptoms decrease. Stop use when symptoms resolve.
Garlic Not everyone likes the smell of garlic, but there are also capsules you can use as a home remedy for vaginal yeast infection. If using fresh garlic, peel one clove of garlic and insert directly into the vagina just before bed. Remove it the next morning.
If using fresh garlic cloves, don’t slice it and make sure it’s a whole clove with cuts in it. Many women wouldn’t feel comfortable doing this, and that’s okay. Use the triple dose of garlic capsules until symptoms resolve.
Cotton Underwear or None At All Yeast grows best in warm, moist environments. Keep dry and “loose” by wearing either cotton underwear during the day and wear none at all while sleeping. Let the area breathe. If you are prone to vaginal yeast infections you should not wear panty liners or pads unless you are menstruating.
