FAIRTRADERS IN THE WAREHOUSE A huge thank you to Fairtraders, Jenny and Martin Rice, who answered our call for help and came to help us pick, pack and despatch the pile of orders in our warehouse – it was great to have you join Team Traidcraft and see how it all works from our side! We hope you enjoyed the experience too!
WELCOME Hi folks, Welcome to our final issue of Living Fair 2021! Who’s excited for Christmas?! The countdown is truly on, and so on behalf of the whole team here at Traidcraft, I want to say a massive thank you for your continued support throughout this challenging but exciting year. The pandemic may be rumbling on, but we’ve all made it through another year of fighting injustices in society – proving that we can do anything when we do it together! If you got involved in our tree planting initiative last month, why not take a look on pages 6-7 to see the total you helped us reach? Spoiler alert… it’s wildly more than we ever imagined! Plus, if you’re looking for some festive baking over the holidays, see page 12 for a recipe to make the tasty wreath on the front cover. I can see myself devouring that with a glass of mulled wine and a Christmas film over the festive season for sure… it’s right up my street!
" A big THANK YOU to you and everyone at Traidcraft for making our week special. We felt really welcomed and have come home with a story to tell. Thank you also for the lovely hampers – we look forward to enjoying the contents with the family over Christmas. The journey back was more eventual due to the bad weather, but we got home safely yesterday evening. All the best to everyone for the pre-Christmas rush." - Jenny and Martin We are looking forward to welcoming another Fairtrader to our warehouse team over the coming weeks! Watch this space...
We hope that you enjoy a peaceful Christmas break, and best wishes from all of us for 2022.
Team Traidcraft P.S. By the time you receive this issue, our winter sale will be live. All discounts are totally on us and never passed on to the producers – what better excuse to treat yourself?

GOODBYE JO!
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…
This month we wave goodbye to our colleague and good friend, Jo, who is expecting her baby in mid-December.
The Independent rounded up the 12 best plastic-free Christmas decorations of 2021… and look who made it to number one spot! It’s only our handmade floral Kashmir birds! Rated best overall, scoring 10/10, it’s safe to say that we are delighted!
Jo – your expertise, passion and energy in the Marketing Team will be a huge miss, but we admit we can’t wait to meet the little one and welcome them into the Traidcraft family… which is steadily getting larger as the days go by!
WELCOME JANET!

Hello! I’ll be Jo’s maternity cover, stepping into all things marketing. I’ve just moved back home from Scotland, so the activities I take part in during my spare time have changed somewhat recently. I currently enjoy walking, cycling, painting and playing/ listening to music. I also volunteer, although that hasn’t quite picked up after the pandemic yet. I do like to keep in touch with friends from places I have lived, which includes Italy and the Netherlands. 4

23,000 Trees Planted!
Black Friday We did it!
With your help, we managed to smash our target of planning 5,000 TREES in Madagascar, Mozambique and Nicaragua. But, wait for it... we didn't just reach our target - we absolutely blew it out of the water, reaching over 23,000 trees planted! We can't quite believe it! To everyone who made an order on Black Friday, and who purchased a bundle of trees - a HUGE thank you from us. Keep an eye on your inboxes for more information on your tree and the environmental projects Ecologi are working on, on behalf of Traidcraft.
Along with this tree planting scheme, together with our friends at Traidcraft Exchange and Urban Green, we planted 50 silver birch and hawthorn trees in our local area on Black Friday itself. Take a look here at how we got on.

Product update from Kirsty & Helen UpCircle Beauty Products
We have some very exciting news to share with you… we are launching UpCircle ethical beauty products, just in time for Christmas!
If you haven’t heard of them, UpCircle are the sustainable beauty brand you need to know about. They have a clear mission, to leave the world better than they found it. Part of achieving this mission involves creating quality skincare from salvaged, natural ingredients, giving them a new lease of life by turning them into something wonderful. They combat waste by using ingredients which are by-products of other industries; for example, the skin-smoothing chamomile stem extract in the UpCircle Face Toner is a by-product of the tea industry.
If we're throwing away a cafetière full of coffee grounds every morning, how much is going to waste from coffee shops all over London? A lot, as it turns out. So we decided to do something about it. We needed a way to give those coffee grounds a new lease f life. And UpCircle was born. – UpCircle
All of UpCycle’s ethical beauty products are sustainable, vegan, cruelty-free and made here in the UK, using natural, COSMOSapproved ingredients, with absolutely no palm oil, parabens, mineral oils, parfums or sulphates.

Hope in dark times this Christmas Sankar Mondal and Sankari Mondal
Climate change has been in the headlines more than ever before, but sometimes the news misses the people who live on the front lines of the climate crisis. Sankar Mondal and his family live in Southern Bangladesh and feel the effects of climate change every day. Rising temperatures are increasing soil salinity, which has limited paddy cultivation and affected their cattle. Changing rainfall patterns are threatening crops, and they face severe cyclones which destroy roads and communication networks. The impacts of climate change are devastating, and the threat of COVID-19 has made life even harder. However, in these dark times, there is still hope. For Sankar and his community, a new approach to farming is paving the way to a more stable future. Sankar has joined a community group, and in his words:
If we are together standing side by side, we are able to manage many problems. We can help each other by sharing our knowledge and we can deal better with any danger when we in a group. This group is also sharing their savings to protect themselves from high interest money lenders, and against future crises. Fighting back against climate change requires we all join together. Will you stand with communities like Sankar’s and create hope for the future this Christmas?? DONATE TO THE CHRISTMAS APPEAL HERE

Chilli Feta Wreath A festive treat made using our best-selling chilli and garlic beer bread. If you’ve bought this as a gift this Christmas – why not print this recipe off and give it alongside the beer bread, for some festive recipe inspiration!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: 1 bag - Chilli & Garlic flavoured beer bread 2 cups thick plain yoghurt 30g cold butter, cubed 5 tablespoons chilli jam 2 tablespoons feta 2 tablespoons melted butter 12 traidcraftshop.co.uk
Recipe Supplied by our Friends at Just Trading Scotland HOW TO MAKE: 1. Preheat oven to 190C. 2. Empty the beer bread mix in a bowl and rub in the butter using your fingertips, once the mixture resembles breadcrumbs gradually cut in the yoghurt using a butter knife until a dough starts to come together. 3. Turn out the dough into a lightly floured surface and gently kneed until smooth. Roll the dough out into a 40 x 60 cm rectangle and spread the chilli jam over the surface of the dough then sprinkle with crumbled feta. 4. Starting with a long side, roll up the dough into a tight sausage and using a sharp knife, cut the sausage of dough
in half lengthways leaving a small section (approximately 14cms long) intact at one end. 5. Turn the halves carefully so the filling is exposed, cross the dough halves over each other until you have a long twisted piece of dough. Cross one end of the twist over the other and tuck the ends under forming a knot. 6. Transfer to your prepared baking sheet, brush the dough with melted butter, bake for 3545 minutes until golden brown and baked throughout. 7. Tent with foil in the last 10 minutes if necessary and decorate with a ribbon and some sage leaves to serve. SHOP INGREDIENTS
