Excellence in Art Since 1963

NEWSLE T TER | FEBRUARY 2019

With a new year at hand, we are pleased to host our first shows of 2019, beginning with a special showcase featuring works by our esteemed members of the Cowboy Artists of America organization. The show brings together the talents of long time CA members Bill Nebeker, Bruce Greene and Clark Kelley Price along with recently invited members Mikel Donahue, Phil Epp and Dustin Payne. Founded in 1965, the Cowboy Artists of America mission statement is “to authentically preserve and perpetuate the culture of western life in fine art. Likewise, Trailside Galleries has been at the crossroads of western American art for more than 50 years and at one point or another has proudly represented a vast majority of the members of the CA organization. While Nebeker, Greene and Donahue bring a more traditional approach to western art, Price brings a storytelling, illustrative quality and Payne and Epp combine a traditional look with more contemporary lines. The featured works in our show are truly a testament to the diversity of artistic styles that can be found today within the framework of western art. The days and months of a long winter can represent a time of introspection and contemplation. The season symbolically invites us to quiet the mind and still the soul. To that end, our next gallery show in February features winter scenes by Michael Godfrey and Robert Moore as they pay homage to the ethereal and mystical beauty of nature and the landscape during the winter season. Painting wintery landscapes can be challenging at best for plein air painters such as Godfrey and Moore. Consider being outdoors in freezing temperatures, trying to keep hands and fingers warm while manipulating stiff, cold or even frozen paint! Then there is the added challenge of mixing a wide range of whites in a way that convey the depth of the scene. For the layman, we naturally tend to think of snow as strictly white in color, but in fact, it takes on my other shades depending on the reflected light and shadow. As you will see while browsing the pages of our newsletter, both artists have created a masterful collection of paintings that capture all the beautiful nuances and subtleties of a winter wonderland.

Michael Godfrey, Fresh New Snow, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches, $22,500

Dustin Payne, Across the Caldera, bronze, ed. of 12, 15 x 19 x 6 inches, $4,200

From all of us at Trailside Galleries, we hope your New Year is off to a great start and we look forward to assisting you with your art collecting needs in the year ahead! Maryvonne Leshe Managing Partner Clark Kelley Price, Packing Out of the Togwotee, oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches, $18,000
