MESSAGE from MARGUERITE We all say this, but it’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. At the beginning of last year, I challenged you to resolve to enjoy the outdoors and get out and camp. Based off of your feedback and the photos we’ve seen, I’d say you all took the challenge to heart and made plenty of great camping memories throughout the year. From watching a child or grandchild catch his first fish to seeing family members talk about planning just one more camping trip, we were happy to be there along the way. This year, we hope to see you even more. An interesting study was conducted by Harris Interactive last year. It focused on the number of vacation days Americans take, versus how many of those go unused. Would you believe that over 400 million paid vacation days go unused each year? That means employees use an average of a mere 51% of their paid vacation time. As a part of Thousand Trails, these numbers surprised me. We see so many of you each and every year, and we all seem to understand the health benefits – both mental and physical – of vacationing in the great outdoors. How can there be over 400 million days that are missing this type of experience?

Be sure to check off that one hike you’ve been hoping to take or visit one more national park in the area to maximize your time. If you’re retired, make time for a bucket list trip this year. Check out the beautiful red rock formations in Sedona, or hit all the trails you can in Olympia National Park. Try not to let 2016 turn into a number of “I wish I would have gone to…” conversations. Now that it’s January, you can begin to plan out the year to take full advantage of your time in the great outdoors. Our goal is to help you personally move the needle on the amount of days you vacation this year. We’re here for you and your family! Just look at the photos above for inspiration. Wouldn’t you enjoy an extra day or two of moments like these? We have a hunch that view is better than the one from your desk. Though we’re coming off of the holiday season, the gifting doesn’t have to end. Gift yourself with the guarantee of even more outdoor vacation time this year. It will be the one that keeps on giving and leaves a smile on your face!

And so, we have a new challenge for you this year. Focus on your well-being and take advantage of your vacation days!

RVing is a great adventure and there’s always something new to learn!

by Paul and Kerri Elders

This month, we’ll take a look at a few common sense solutions to help you keep your RV warm and toasty, no matter how much snow Old Man Winter throws at you. We’ll also investigate towing’s potential effects on engine oil and explore some quick and easy tire tips. Let’s get going! Wandering in a Winter Wonderland: Wintertime is a wonderful time for RVers everywhere to enjoy the great outdoors. Using a little common sense and a few tech tips, winter travel can be a blast. Start the season right by making sure that your rig is properly serviced before hitting the road. To make sure you are ready to enjoy this trip to its fullest, check that all tires are inflated and that all antifreeze and other fluid levels are A-OK. Most importantly, check your propane level. Pack shoes and clothing that are appropriate for the anticipated weather conditions. Make sure your heating system is functioning properly; it’s important to make any necessary corrections before leaving home. Always drive more slowly on ice and snow; keep a generous following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and respect the rights of others who are sharing the road with you. Keeping Your RV Cozy: This almost goes without saying, but once camped, it’s best to minimize opening and closing of exterior doors to minimize heat loss. Whenever your RV’s connected to shore power, an electric mattress pad is an excellent nighttime solution to wintertime cold; electric mattress pads actually use less power than electric blankets. Although tempting, never use your RV cook top for wintertime heating – the flame of a propane cook top is not only a fire hazard, it depletes your living area of vital oxygen.

If your RV has blinds and/or curtains, close them in the coldest weather; a surprising amount of heat can be lost just through exposed window glass. Roof vent insulators are another easy option for on-thespot winterizing. These simple “insulating plugs” are available at your local RV supply house. Slideouts are a welcome addition to the RV lifestyle. They give us a larger living area, more room to move around, and provide more spacious seating arrangements. But slideouts also tend to collect snow during storms, making slideout awnings almost a necessity in winter weather. Engine Oil and Towing: Many of us pull toads behind our motorhomes, and many other RVers travel in fifth wheels and tagalongs, putting a little extra work on the tow vehicle or coach engine. Small toads offer very limited towing resistance, while fifth wheels and towable trailers offer significantly more. This resistance adds an extra load to the engine of your tow vehicle or motorhome. While driving up hills in the mountains, this added weight and wind resistance may require you to use a lower gear. Just match the gear to the grade, watch your engine temperature and frequently check your oil levels. Occasionally, RV owners may find that their engine oil use increases when towing or driving through hilly terrain. Usually, this is only an issue with older engines, but it’s due to something called “volatility burnoff.” Motor oil contains a number of chemical components that vaporize at different temperatures, so as the temperature of the engine oil increases with greater loads, lighter components of the oil can actually evaporate, leaving heavier components behind.

Since the engine is occasionally held longer in lower gears while towing, the “heat load” on the oil can increase, speeding this natural evaporation process. This higher heat factor is one reason higher viscosity oils are usually recommended for towing, especially in hot weather. And for best performance, try a synthetic oil. Although it’s more expensive, synthetic motor oil is more stable at higher temperatures and won’t burn off as easily. It’s a good idea to check oil levels periodically during your trip, especially if towing through mountainous terrain. Check engine oil levels in the morning before departing (when the engine is cool) for the most accurate readings. And remember to tuck a couple of spare quarts of oil in your storage bay tool kit, so you’ll have it when you need it. Tire Tips: RV tires really are where the rubber meets the road. Luckily, there are a number of things you can easily do to make sure your tires serve you well for many miles of happy traveling. First and foremost, learn how to keep tires properly inflated for your load. Recommended inflation levels are usually listed in your RV Owner’s Manual. You also need to know how to check your tires’ inflation levels; a digital tire gauge with a large, clear readout is the easiest way to “know your number.” It’s also a great idea to carry a portable 12 volt tire inflater. They’re small and inexpensive (usually under $20 at your local auto store), but can save you from some major headaches, should you find yourself with a partially deflated tire, far from the nearest service station. Happy travels to all; blaze your trail, wintertime warriors!

I KNEW I WAS A

TrailBlazer

▲ Joe and Betty at the start of the Tillamook Head Trail near Seaside, OR

This month, TrailBlazer would like to introduce you to Joe and Betty Graffis. Two true TrailBlazers who committed to traveling the country together the second they said their wedding vows. People often ask them if they’re fulltimers, but they let them know they are “free timers.” Free to come, go, or travel whenever they want. TB: How long have you been camping and RVing? Who introduced you to it? Tell us how it all began! BG: I remember camping with my mom, brother, and sisters back in the ‘50s. She was a single, working mom and we had a ‘47 Chevy. When we came home from school on a Friday, the car was packed and we were off to either Mt. Rainier or Copalis Beach. She made a bed in the front seat of the car for our brother and she took a piece of plywood to make an extension to the back seat and made a bed for her, my sister, and me. She cooked

14

our meals on a grill over an open fire, and kept the food that needed refrigerating in a cooler with blocks of ice. We learned to dig clams with our hands, took long walks on the beach picking up sand dollars along the way, set them on the picnic table to dry, and then painted them when we got home.

TB: How did you first hear about Thousand Trails?

JG: I remember camping above Estacada, Oregon, with my cousins when I was in high school. We had a tent, cooking supplies and had fun fishing. Later, after I got out of the service and got married, the wife and I got a ‘69 GMC half ton pickup and a Paris Valley camper.

BG: I didn’t know about Thousand Trails until I married Joe back in 2004. At that time, he was a Western Horizons member. They slowly started selling off their parks, making it harder for us to find safe places to camp. Some of our

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 TRAILBLAZER

JG: I first heard about Thousand Trails from my aunt and uncle. My two aunts and mom shared a membership back in the ‘70s. They camped in a small trailer and a tent and stayed mainly at Chehalis and Pacific City.

friends were buying into Thousand Trails and would share their great experiences with us. So, we came to Seaside under another membership one time and spoke with the manager there. We wound up buying two zones and within a year bought the other two. A few years later while in Bend, we checked with the sales rep there to see just how much it would cost us to upgrade. We ended up purchasing an Elite membership. It opened up a whole new camping world for us. TB: What is one of your fondest camping memories? How about one of your fondest TT memories? BG: As a child, I loved camping at Mount Rainier. We still slept in the car and mom cooked on a grill over an open fire. We kept our food in a locker in the ground. The lid was very heavy and mom kept it locked to keep our food from the bears. Garbage cans (made out of metal) served a twofold purpose back in those days. Besides holding the garbage, we could take the lid off and bang it with a big stick and supposedly scare the bears. Our friends would come to visit and their kids were our age. So, we would rope ourselves together and pretend we were off to climb the mountain. JG: One time, my late wife and I put the kids in the truck and camper and headed for TT Chehalis. One morning we went to what looked like a tennis court and batted this ball that looked like a wiffle ball with a wooden paddle. We didn’t have a clue what the goal of the game was but we laughed so hard while batting that ball back and forth over the net. Now, many years later, I play pickleball every time I get a chance!

TB: What type of camper are you/ what equipment do you use? What do you prefer and why? B&JG: We both prefer the comfort of full hookups. Joe’s mom came to live with us when she was 90. She was still very active and sharp as a tack. Joe told her as long as she could get up the steps on her own she could travel with us. So, we purchased a used 32’ Class A Rexhall Aerbus. She traveled with us for three years. The next six and a half years we stayed home and cared for her until she died one day and one month before her 99th birthday. We no longer needed a motor home that large so we downsized to a 2012 23’ Class C Coachman Freelander. We spend about six months out of the year in it. We tow a 2014 Honda CRV. People we meet ask us if we’re fulltimers and our answer is no, we’re free timers. Free to come and go when we want. We still own our home in Oregon. We want a home to come home to when our travels are done, or when we just want to be off the road for awhile. TB: Where have you gone that you wouldn’t have otherwise, if it hadn’t been for your Thousand Trails membership? B&JG: We wouldn’t have been able to go to Bend, Whalers Rest, South Jetty, Pacific City, Birch Bay,

Chehalis, Paradise, Crescent Bar, Yosemite, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Wilderness Lakes, Lake Minden, Countryside in Apache Junction, or Verde Valley. TB: What is your favorite part about the outdoor lifestyle? JG: That’s easy: pickleball, horseshoes, and sightseeing. BG: I enjoy walking, meeting new friends, and sightseeing. Trailblazing has brought Joe “out of his shell,” so to speak. He says I’m the one who doesn’t know a stranger and that’s true. It’s very easy for me to strike up a conversation with the person next to me. But, over the last 12 years, I can see where pickleball, horseshoes, and billiards have really helped him branch out. And, last year, he took his trombone with him and he plays wherever he finds a jam session. Best of all he’s found out he loves karaoke. (Not my cup of tea, but I love to sit and listen to him.) TB: Can you finish this sentence? I knew I was a TrailBlazer when... JG: I knew I was a TrailBlazer when…I hung up my Greyhound Bus uniform and turned in my keys for the last time. When I could hop in the van and take off to explore places I’ve never been. No more Portland, OR, to Redding, CA, or Portland, OR, to Vancouver, BC. When I wasn’t bound by time schedules. When the only luggage I had to handle was our own, and when the only people in my van was me and my wife, not 55 other passengers. BG: I knew I was (going to be) a TrailBlazer when…Joe asked me to travel through life with him. Our wedding invitation read “He proposed to her on bended knee, He said “will you travel through life with me.’” She said yes and twelve years later we are still blazing the trails.

Manufactured Homes & Park Models GREAT OPTIONS IN GREAT LOCATIONS!

by Annie Berman Often referred to as resort homes or resort cottages, these units are typically constructed in a factory and range in size from 400 to over 2,500 square feet. Whether you’re seeking the perfect seasonal getaway or looking for a permanent residence, see why owning or renting a manufactured home or park model could be a great option for your next home away from home at your favorite vacation or retirement destination. Today’s manufactured homes are stylish and come with a number of upgraded features including designer interiors, state of the art appliances and fixtures, garages and decks. Unlike the trailers of the past, these homes feature similar options as stick built homes, at roughly half the cost.

Park models are meant for recreational/ seasonal use, which makes them an affordable option for snowbirds or families seeking a vacation getaway. Park models are built to a maximum of 400 square feet (500 square feet maximum in Florida.) Though park models are technically considered a recreational vehicle, they are usually permanently set, but can be moved if necessary. Both park models and manufactured homes are gaining in popularity because of their practical yet versatile layouts, customizable floor plans and affordability. Depending upon the size, age of the unit, and desired features, park models average $25,000 to $80,000, while manufactured homes can range from $40,000 to over $100,000.

AMERICA’S

BUCK E T L IST TrailBlazer has created our own America’s Bucket List for those of you whose lists may need some inspiration or for those who want to feel satisfied as they go through our list and say “been there, done that!” You can separate a bucket list in many ways. Some may categorize by personal interests and others by geography. Others may create by priority and some just let the road lead them. We’ve chosen to do it by geographic location but by no means do we think one is more important than the other. Visit them all as they are all worthy of a trip! by Joan Rykal

he National Park Service turns 100 this year. To celebrate this centennial, TrailBlazer is highlighting one of ten National Scenic Trails every month! National Scenic Trails are continuous, primarily nonmotorized routes that extend 100 miles or longer and offer exceptional recreational activities. Many of these trails can take up to months to complete if done as a thru-hike, but the completion of just a section of the over 18,734 miles of trails will leave you with a great sense of accomplishment and a taste of our national history.

hiking or backpacking. Below are just a few places we think you will enjoy on the Florida National Scenic Trail. The Marshall Swamp in the Ocala National Forest section of the Florida Trail is just a 33 minute drive north from Thousand Trail’s Three Flags RV Campground.

▲ Gulf Fritillary Butterfly Photo courtesy of Maya Buhler If you’ve escaped or are looking to escape the harsh winter up north for some sunshine and outdoor fun, head down to Florida and hike the Florida National Scenic Trail. This trail was established in 1968 and designated as a National Scenic Trail in 1983 after Jim Kern of Miami was compelled to create a system of hiking trails in Florida after hiking the Appalachian trail with his brother in 1966. Stretching approximately 1,000 miles across Florida, the Florida National Scenic Trail is within an hour of most Floridians and provides tons of opportunities for

There are two trails available to hikers here, both accessible by either US301-N or I-75N. Take the Baseline Trailhead where a grassy pathway lined with blackberry bushes will lead you to the 5 miles of paved pathway that is popular for walkers and their pooches, parents with strollers, and hikers and bikers of all ages and skill levels. Stay on the unpaved trail and you’ll be making your way along an original section of the Florida Trail, the Marshall Swamp Trail. This section can be accessed from the Marshall Swamp Trailhead, which is adjacent to the Cross Florida Greenway’s Sharpe’s Ferry Office. This segment is about three miles through the Marshall Swamp, a floodplain of the Ocklawaha and Silver rivers. Just $2 is all you need to experience the Chuluota Wilderness to Joshua Creek section of the Florida Trail, which you pay at the trailhead. The Joshua Creek trailhead is a

little over an hour drive south from Encore’s Sunshine Holiday Daytona or Bulow RV Resorts. This part of the trail is fairly new and was built through Bronson State Forest into adjacent Chuluota Wilderness area. The natural habitat around you transitions from high to low as you walk down through pine forests and up through dry shrubs. If you plan to head to this trailhead, be sure to check hunting season regulations and wear blaze orange if hiking during hunting season. If you’re staying at Encore’s Southern Palms RV Resort in Eustis, Florida, drive about 36 miles north to the Clearwater Lake Trailhead inside the Ocala National Forest. This trail will lead you to Alexander Springs via an undulating path through pine forests, past sinkholes and Sandhills, and where you may pass bicyclists, ATV riders, and other hikers of course. This particular section of the Florida Trail tends to be more challenging, but after you’ve hiked 10 miles and reach Alexander Springs, the cool, clear, gushing spring is a huge relief from the Florida heat.

On The Road

Dailey Vincent by Lynn & Cele Seldon

Whether you spend life on the road for pleasure or work, it’s nice to have the comforts of home as you travel the highways and byways. TRAILBLAZER checks in with folks who spend a fair amount of time on the road to see just what makes their home away from home. This month, we chatted with Darrin Vincent of “The Rockstars of Bluegrass,” Dailey & Vincent.

P

erforming together since 2007, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent have been bluegrass rockstars for decades. Dailey grew up singing and playing with family and regional groups all over middle Tennessee and Kentucky and gained national attention in 1998 as the lead, baritone, and tenor singer with the country group Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, including four IBMA Vocalist of the Year awards. Vincent started singing at age three and playing music at age six as part of his family band, The Sally Mountain Show, along with his sister, “Queen of Bluegrass,” Rhonda Vincent. He then spent ten years with the Grammy award-winning Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and was voted Bluegrass Bass Player of the Year four years in a row. Photo courtesy of Josh Daubin

After meeting at an IBMA awards show and spending a few years exploring their musical similarities, Dailey and Vincent told their respective bands that they were going to be forming their own band and going out on their own. Close to a year later, their first paid tour date was on December 29th, 2007, at the Ryman Auditorium at the Grand Ole Opry. According to Vincent, “I don’t know if anyone else started their career like that at the Ryman.” Seven years later, they have seven country, bluegrass, and gospel albums, including their latest “Dailey & Vincent – ALIVE! In Concert” (which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart in 2015), 14 IBMA awards, four Dove 36

awards, three Grammy award nominations, a syndicated television show, two of their own bluegrass festivals, an enormous following of fanatical fans, and the title of “The Rock Stars of Bluegrass” by Country Music Television. We caught up with Vincent the week that their new show, The Dailey & Vincent Show, premiered on RFD-TV. Your new show, “The Dailey & Vincent Show”, premieres this weekend. How excited are you? I’ve got butterflies in my stomach. And I’m about to cry thinking about it. I’m just so thankful for the opportunity. Springer

Mountain Farms really came to the plate for us and bellied up to the table on our behalf. And Vince Gill was so kind to come and do our debut show. We’ll also have Steve Warner, Flat Lonesome, The Cleverlys out of Branson, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers. It’s food and music. We have chefs from all over the country, thanks to Springer Mountain Farms, who will cook on our show. So there’s music, recipes, and cooking. Tell us about your fall bluegrass festival, LandFest. LandFest is our festival at Denton Farm Park in Denton, North Carolina. It’s a really nice RV park with lots of hook-ups for campers,

What else do you do when you are on road? We have a lot of fun talking and just telling stories – doing silly stuff just to pass the time. We keep up with fans through social media. What are a few favorite destinations?

some paved roads, a pond out front, and a covered pavilion where the music is. So rain or shine, everyone can be really comfortable. Last year, we had Heather Murray, the Isaacs, Lonesome River Band, Michael Cleveland, the Gatlin Brothers, plus a bunch of other artists and us. And, if people enjoyed playing and had a band and wanted to open the show for us on Saturday, we had a band contest that morning. If you won, you got to open the show that night. We also have WaterFest which is a cruise to the Caribbean over Valentine’s Day. This year’s [2016] WaterFest will have Ricky Skaggs, Shem White, and Jimmy Fortune, so it ought to be a huge show out on the water. Tell us about your ride. It’s a 45’ 2005 Prevost XLII and it’s sponsored by Springer Mountain Farms. It’s been converted to have our offices in the back. We also have our closets back there. Then the next section has six bunks in it. Then the next section has three bunks and a shower. The next section is the kitchen and bathroom, a dining booth that seats four people and a half-couch that will seat three and a long couch that will seat four or five. All the bunks have TVs, the front lounge and the back lounge

have TVs and roaming satellite. The entire band sleeps on the bus. What’s your favorite thing about staying on your RV versus a hotel room? I love to hear the generator run. Seriously. I love the idling. It just puts me to sleep. I’ve known a lot of artists who say when they get home it’s so quiet that they can’t sleep. They’ve asked their driver to pull the bus up and leave the generator running outside their window. What are your three favorite things onboard? Satellite TV, the refrigerator with the food, and the comfort of the office in the back. Being able to work going down the road with the internet and all that. Do you listen to music on the road? We do. The guys up front will play songs they are working on. We love listening to The Band. And, of course, George Jones and people like that. We enjoy the old stuff. We tend to listen to everyone else’s music, unless we’re trying to rehearse for a new song or something for TV or for an upcoming event. Then we’ll have a rehearsal up front in the lounge.

I love the Grand Canyon – that’s amazing to see. Another huge place that’s amazing is Niagara Falls. Two wonderful wonders of the world. I love driving through Canada. And, you can’t beat Tennessee. I love driving through the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Do you cook onboard? We do crock-potting. Our fiddle player, B.J. Cherryholmes, is really good at fixing crockpot food. He’s our cook. He cooks things in the crockpot overnight and it smells so good when we wake up in the morning. What’s your favorite place to stop for a meal on the road? Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. That’s the one we stop at the most. We love Lone Star Steakhouse, too. Do you ever go camping as a family vacation? I’ve never done that. It’s always been a business. We camp almost every weekend, but it’s always been for the music. My wife grew up camping at bluegrass festivals. Has anyone ever approached you in a rest stop or somewhere else and asked to see your rig? Lots of folks want to see it all the time. We tell them that it’s our home and we just don’t allow people onboard.

ariety is the name of the game if you’re planning on making the rounds of Major League Baseball’s Spring Training this March. Players are slated to show up at their respective training camps beginning in mid-February. Pitchers and catchers arrive first followed by position players toward the end of the month. Training begins in earnest and the games begin during the first week of March. And that’s where the fun begins. The choice is yours on many levels if you plan to take in this attraction that has drawn more than 25 million people since 2000. You can choose to watch 38

Arizona’s Cactus League, who plays their games in and around the Phoenix area, or in sunny Florida where the Grapefruit League teams divide their camps on both coasts as well as in central Florida. A list of teams and their locations is included in the sidebar of this article. Even better, your choice of Encore and Thousand Trails resorts provides a great lineup in these locales to give you the best home base from which to experience Spring Training 2016. We thought we’d highlight a few more things to do in these areas so when you’re not catching a ball game, you’re still enjoying all the area has to offer.

Arizona Fifteen teams play their games within roughly a 50-mile radius in the towns of Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Phoenix, Peoria, Scottsdale, Surprise, and Tempe. First and foremost, baseball fans should note that the Cactus League has put together an interactive history lesson known as the Legacy Trail. Mainly comprised of restaurants throughout Scottsdale, there are 12 locations, each with their own baseball story to tell. For example, there’s the Sugar Bowl, known for their “double-frosted” ice cream cones and said to be a favorite among rookie players. Then, there is Karsen’s Grill, frequented by sportswriters and umpires (that’s gotta be some good conversation!) or Don and Charlie’s that boasts one heck of a collection of baseball memorabilia. The Scottsdale Historical Museum, also part of the Legacy Trail, will have an exhibit dedicated to Spring Training history that will run through March. There is also Baseball City, formerly held under the name of Spring Training Festival, which is the largest interactive fan festival featuring baseball legends, hall of famers and current players. The date had not been finalized as we went to print but check out www. experiencescottsdale.com/event/ baseball-city to see when this fabulous fan event is scheduled in February. And, when you’ve had enough baseball, there are a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy under the bright Arizona sun. Consider kayaking, canoeing, or fishing on the Salt River. Hiking opportunities in the area range from easy to difficult and include Camelback Mountain, Shaw Butte, Pinnacle Peak, and Tom’s Thumb. There are also the famous Jeep Tours of the area that ramble through high desert terrain and offer a unique way to see the beautiful countryside.

▲ Diamondback Catchers Training Photo courtesy of Dru Bloomfield Lake Buena Vista or the Houston Astros in Kissimmee is a perfect opportunity to visit the attractions in the area including Disney World and Universal Studios. Likewise, the Washington Nationals location offers a tourist two-fer as well. Space Coast Stadium is not far from Kennedy Space Center. The Yankees play at George M. Steinbrenner Field (formerly called Legends Field) in Tampa, named for the longest owner in the history of the ball club.

▲ Phillies Warming Up Photo courtesy of WebbShots When it’s time to eat, the area does not disappoint. Satisfy your sweet tooth at Cerreta Candy Co. in Glendale, known for the French Mint. They offer free tours Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. For those that follow the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” check out Tom Thumb’s Fresh Market, in Scottsdale, which bills itself as “an artisan market, auto detail service, wine bar & BBQ café all in one place.” Looking for a good deli? DeFalco’s Italian Eatery is a deli and an Italian grocery store that has been serving pizza, subs, calzones and cheese steaks for more than 40 years. 40

Florida The nice thing about the Grapefruit League is that it gives you the opportunity to see plenty of Florida. Teams are located on the gulf side in Bradenton, Clearwater, Dunedin, Fort Myers, Port Charlotte, Sarasota, and Tampa; on the east coast in Jupiter, Melbourne, Port St. Lucie and Viera; and in central Florida in Kissimmee, Lake Buena Vista, and Lakeland. The Red Sox play at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, built to resemble Fenway Park complete with the Green Monster. A trip to see to either the Atlanta Braves in

From a non-baseball perspective, you’d be hard-pressed not to find something for everyone in the Sunshine State. There’s history, architecture, water adventures, gator adventures, fine dining, theater, and more. Luckily, the top attractions in Florida are convenient to most of the baseball parks. For the Tampa area teams, there’s Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, and the Tampa Museum of Art. For foodies, Tampa offers plenty of food festivals in 2016 including The Cuban Sandwich Festival, March 18-20, and the Busch Gardens Food and Wine Festival, which runs weekends in March and April.

Heading south, there are the award-winning beaches of Fort Myers, Sanibel, and Captiva, just to name a few. Speaking of beaches, there’s the BaileyMatthews Shell Museum in Captiva that features shells from around the world. On the Atlantic side, the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens features include a Butterfly Garden, a Bamboo Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Hibiscus Garden. The Ritch-Grissom Memorial Wetlands in Viera is a birder’s paradise. Birding can be done via hiking, biking, trail walking, and car, and you can expect to see the main attraction, the Crested Caracara, as well as the Northern Pintail, the Roseate Spoonbill, and the Buff-breasted Sandpiper. Melbourne’s Eau Gallie Arts District always has something interesting going on including Food Truck Festivals, gallery open houses, and art events. Take in Spring Training! Whether you’re in Arizona or Florida, you’ll be guaranteed a grand slam of good fun this winter.

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA’S

PEACE RIVER From Charlotte Harbor to Bartow and Beyond

by Lynn & Cele Seldon

All Photos courtesy of CharlotteHarborTravel.com

Starting in Polk County’s county seat of quaint Bartow and flowing about 105 miles to Charlotte Harbor, southwest Florida’s Peace River is a popular, yet peaceful, place to visit any time of year. From canoeing, kayaking, and other boating options to fishing, fossil hunting, wildlife watching, historic and quaint small towns, and more, Peace River proper and nearby offer lots of outdoors oriented possibilities. Following the route of the Peace River all the way down to Charlotte Harbor is made easy by driving south on Route 17. It’s about 75 miles from Bartow to Punta Gorda and the Peace River is typically nearby and somewhat parallel with Route 17. Side roads heading generally east and west off Route 17 head to the river or other activities and possibilities.

The Peace River begins just northeast of downtown Bartow, when Saddle Creek and Peace Creek join. The first of many river put-ins is located just off Route 60, just west of town and Route 17. Sometimes, the water is too low to use this access point. Historic downtown Bartow is well worth a visit. It’s hard to miss the Polk County Courthouse at the corner of East Main and South Broadway, where visitors will also find lots of boutique shopping and independent restaurants, like East Main’s contemporary Urban Oak restaurant and popular country cooking at Especially 4 U Restaurant & Catering.

▲ Fishing in the Charlotte Harbor

Golfers will want to check out pretty public Bartow Golf Course (including Mulligan’s restaurant). The drive down Route 17 passes by or near several other public golf courses and, as can be expected, the area around Charlotte Harbor also features more than top-notch golf courses. Heading south on Route 17 out of Bartow, look for Peace River Citrus on the left, about four miles south of town. Though visitors can’t purchase famed Florida citrus here, they can certainly often smell it if their windows are rolled down and purchase it at many fruit and vegetable stands and stores along the way.

▲ Conquistador Cup Regatta in Punta Gorda

Homeland, which is about three miles south of Peace River Citrus, is next. The major Peace Riveroriented attraction for Homeland is Mosaic Peace River Park. The park is a former phosphate mine that was reclaimed by IMC Fertilizer Company in the 1970s and donated to Polk County Parks and Recreation in 1984. Nearby, just a mile or so west on Route 640, there’s a Peace River boat ramp and fishing dock. The Peace features bass, bream, snook, catfish, and more. This is a perfect place to fish and boat the Peace.

44

▲ Kayaking on Peace River

Wildlife watching here and elsewhere along the river is also a natural attraction. The possibilities include: lots of songbirds, hawks, osprey, eagles, swallow tailed kites, waterfowl, alligators, otter, turtles, deer, fox, wild hogs, turkeys, and even armadillos. In addition, the typically tea-colored river flows past limestone banks and along abundant pastures, and stands of willow, live oaks, cypress, palms, and palm hammock forests.

▲ Peace River Wildlife Center

Back in downtown Homeland, visitors will want to head to Homeland Heritage Park. Among several historic buildings, highlights here might include: Homeland Methodist Church and the Raulerson House, featuring early rural architecture for the affluent built by the Blocker family in the 1880s. Fort Meade is just six miles to the south. Here, antiques shopping and more along yet another town’s Main Street makes it worth a stop. Next, the town of Bowling Green is eight miles down Route 17. There’s more shopping along its Main Street, plus landscaped Main Street Heritage Park, colorful wall murals, and local dining hotspots like Main Street Grilled and Giovanni’s. Peace River explorers can next head to the highly-recommended Paynes Creek Historic State Park. This excellent state park (there is an entrance fee), features a boat launch, fishing, several trails (including the Peace River Trail), picnicking, and old fort and trading post sites. There’s also a monument erected to honor Captain George S. Payne and Dempsey Whidden – clerks killed at the trading post during a Seminole attack.

▲ Bartow Golf Course

Situated along the Peace River, bustling Thousand Trails Peace River Preserve and all of its amenities await in Wauchula, seven miles south of Bowling Green. Canoeing, fishing, and fossil hunting through Peace River Paddle Sports & Adventures are particularly popular here, but so are sitting by the pool, hiking, mini-golf, shuffleboard, on-site fishing, boating, and much more. Fossiling along and near the Peace River is a popular pursuit. Aforementioned Peace River Paddle Sports & Adventures offers several options, as do Canoe Outpost and Mark Renz with Fossil Expeditions. The “digs” typically involve sifting through river gravel for mammal bones, shark teeth, fossilized plants, and more from the Pleistocene and Miocene periods. The northern area of the Peace River has become known as “Bone Valley.” The interesting town of Zolfo Springs is located just across the river from Wauchula. Here, Pioneer Park features the Cracker Trail Museum, plus the 1914 Baldwin Locomotive Engine #3 (also known as the Loping Gopher), an 1879 cabin, a blacksmith shop, a smokehouse, the Cracker Trail Post Office, and several other historic buildings. The Florida Cracker Trail runs about 120 miles between Bradenton and Fort Pierce and was used by early Sunshine State settlers to traverse the state, as well as ranches and cowboys to drive cattle to the coast for shipping. Zolfo Springs is also a great place to stock up on beef (like Ranchito Meats & Produce just a block north of Acapulco restaurant on Route 17). Lots of cattle farms dot the landscape around the Peace River.

▲ Fishermen’s Village

The bustling river town of Arcadia 20 miles south of Zolfo Springs is next. The Peace River runs right through town, making river access for boating and fishing easy. In addition, aforementioned Canoe Outpost (just outside town off Route 70, turning north on Route 661 at Po Folk Produce) is a great place to head for a wide variety of half-day, full-day, and overnight trips. The Peace River ends its journey in sprawling Charlotte Harbor, which is the second largest natural harbor in Florida. Located about halfway between Tampa and Naples, the area is known collectively as Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands and it’s a charming collection of several coastal communities. Lying at the mouth of where the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor meet, charming Punta Gorda (‘fat point’ in Spanish) serves as the cultural heartbeat of Charlotte County, thanks to diverse performances at The Center for Performing Arts & Education and juried exhibits and workshops at the Visual Arts Center. The waterfront neighborhood features streets lined with towering royal

46

palms, restored period homes with wide verandas, and boutique shopping and dining at the waterfront’s popular Fishermen’s Village, which has been recently renovated and is highlighted by a bustling marina, flowering shrubs, street lamps, and popular benches for non-shoppers. Gilchrist Park is a linear park running parallel with the Peace River between downtown Punta Gorda and Fishermen’s Village. If it’s time to eat, Fishermen’s Village features fresh seafood and more at Captain’s Table, Harpoon Harry’s, and Village Fish Market. Other Punta Gorda exploration and activity possibilities include: Peace River Wildlife Center in Ponce de Leon Park, the new Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, the new Florida Tracks & Trails outdoor adventure and live entertainment park, Rick Treworgy’s Muscle Car City, the Military Heritage Museum, town-wide murals depicting Punta Gorda’s history, and Artisans Atelier with working artist studios. Situated to the northwest of where the Peace River meets Charlotte Harbor and due north of the huge harbor proper, busy

Port Charlotte features distinctive entertainment options, including comedy at Visani Restaurant, theater at both the Cultural Center of Charlotte County and Charlotte Players, and educational and historic programs at the Charlotte County Historical Center. One of the main attractions of Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf

Islands is the number of naturebased activities available. As the Sunshine State’s second largest marine estuary behind Tampa Bay, the region features 830-plus miles of shoreline that incorporates barrier islands, unspoiled beaches, salt marshes, mangrove habitats, pine flatwoods, and meandering rivers, canals, and creeks. Fed by the Peace River, the Myakka River, and the Caloosahatchee River, Charlotte Harbor is a place of ecological and ornithological wonders where there’s practically no such thing as rush hour – including seemingly unlimited

opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to see nature in its undisturbed state. Ideal for shelling, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, powerboating, fishing, photography, and much more, the region provides a perfect natural backdrop for many outdoors oriented pursuits. The Peace and Myakka Rivers and the expansive aquatic preserves of the Charlotte Harbor watershed provide an up-close look at the unique features of a sprawling estuarine ecosystem. Visitors can experience mangrove canopies while kayaking in the secluded and hidden coves of Coral Creek and Gasparilla Sound along the Intra-coastal Waterway. Nearly 200 miles of the Charlotte Harbor Blueway Trails have been mapped, with 50-plus varied trails rated for access, experience level, and scenic value. Those in search of the big one will want to search out the King Fisher Fleet, based in Punta Gorda at Fishermen’s Village. They offer a variety of back bay fishing charters and deep-water safaris. They also feature many sightseeing adventures on a daily basis, including popular morning, afternoon, full-day, and evening cruises in the area. Inland, Babcock Wilderness Adventures – also based in Punta Gorda – features entertaining and educational 90-minute swamp buggy adventures through the woods and pastures of sprawling 90,000-acre Crescent B Ranch,

a working cattle farm, and Telegraphy Cypress Swamp to the west of town. Wildlife sightings of alligators, whitetail deer, Southern cougars, and more are possible. Punta Gorda’s Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center south of downtown makes for another natural stop. The 3,000-acre nature center features four miles of hiking trails and free interpretive programs, like the Wading Adventure, where participants don waders and head into the estuary with dip nets in search of varied sea life. With more than 325 bird species migrating to and inhabiting about 70 parks, preserves, and nature areas, plus lots of shoreline birding, bird watching in the region is a big deal. Lemon Bay Park, Cedar Point, and Alligator Creek are just three of more than two dozen sites recognized by the Peace River Audubon Society for excellent birding. Endangered wood storks, with their four-footplus wingspans, the rare white pelican, and the purple gallinule are all on the extensive Southwest Florida Bird List. Finally, Florida is certainly wellknown for a potpourri of state parks and recreational areas and Charlotte County contains four of them. From Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park and Babcock/ Webb Wildlife Management Area to Don Pedro Island State Park and Stump Pass Beach State Park, the area features a plethora of nature programs and events, plus exceptional recreational opportunities – including bird watching, biking, hiking, swimming, boating, and much more. Given all there is to do and see on and near the Peace River from Bartow to Charlotte Harbor, it’s easy to see why this part of the Sunshine State is so popular, yet peaceful. Just go with the flow!

Here’s a way to use your dutch ovens, and be good to yourself! Keep those new year resolutions, too! Find a few good recipes that will get you eating healthier, and enjoying good food along the way. I’ve made it my mission, for at least the coming year, to make healthy dishes that incorporate fresher foods, less canned goods, and are lower in those sugary carbs! It’s a start, and little by little, you’ll want to have good veggies, cleaner eating, and a way to do this. Let’s get cooking. Lesley Tennessen, Dutch Oven Diva www.dutchovendiva.com or visit my blog at dutchovendiva.wordpress.com

Potato Leek Soup Recipe SERVES 4-6 (12 in dutch oven - 27 coals, 18 on lid, 9 under lid)

Ingredients • 3 large leeks, cut lengthwise, separate, clean. Use only the white and pale green parts, chop. • 2 tbsp. butter • 2 cups water • 2 cups chicken broth* • 2 lbs potatoes, diced into ½ in. pieces • A dash of Marjoram • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley • 2 tsps chopped thyme • ½ tsp. dried thyme • Tabasco sauce or red chili sauce • Salt & Pepper

Directions 1. Cook leeks in butter with salt and pepper in a dutch oven. Cover pan, cook on low heat or a bed of coals for 10 minutes. Check often. Do not brown leeks. Browning will give leeks a burnt taste. 2. Add water, broth, and potatoes. Bring to a low simmer by using a bed of coals and cook for 20 minutes. Remove coals if the simmer turns to a boil. Use the potato masher to mash the potatoes right in broth. Get it as smooth as you wish. The released starch will thicken the soup. Add spices and a few dashes of chili sauce. Add pepper and salt to taste.

*Replace with vegetable broth for vegetarian option. If cooking gluten-free, be sure to use gluten-free broth.

Italian Meatloaf Roll SERVES 6-7 | about 1.5 hr (12 in dutch oven 20-22 coals on lid, 8 under lid)

Ingredients Roll • 1½ lbs. extra lean ground beef* • 3 ⁄ 4 cup Italian style bread crumbs • 1 egg • 1 tsp. salt & ¼ tsp. pepper Topping • 1 cup spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce • ½ cup Mexican shredded cheese Filling • 10 oz. package of Spinach or kale • ½ cup Mexican shredded cheese • 1 tbs. JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 TRAILBLAZER

Directions 1. In a bowl, combine with a fork the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt & pepper. 2. Use 15 inch length parchment and flatten the meat mixture into a rectangle about 9 in. wide and as long as needed. Make sure that the flattened shape is no thinner than a ½ inch. For Filling 1. Sauté fresh spinach in a pan lightly coated with olive oil until it starts shrivel or becomes tender. Let cool. In a bowl combine, cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, garlic powder, and spinach. Mix with spoon. Spread filling evenly on flattened meat. 4. Heat the coals now…you have 20 minutes to make the roll. Roll the short side nearest you so that it will be size of a loaf pan. Lift carefully with the parchment and put inside the dutch oven. 6. Drizzle the spaghetti/pizza sauce on the roll. Sprinkle the ½ cup of shredded cheese on top. Cook for 45 min. to 1 hr. Let cool. Cut into 1in -1.5in pieces.

Sriracha Brussel Sprout Poppers 4. While the sprouts are cooking, mix up the cream cheese and sriracha sauce. Mix up the crunch topping.

(12 in dutch oven - lots of coals)

Ingredients

• 12 brussel sprouts, each cut in half • 2 tsps olive oil • 1 tbsp. of seasoned salt • 6 oz. cream cheese • 2 tbsps siracha sauce

3. Once the sprouts are softened, remove the oven from the heat. Put the lid aside.

Topping • 1⁄3 -½ cup of crushed Rice chex or panko • ¼ cup finely Mexican shredded cheese • ¼ tsp. Italian seasoning • ¼ tsp. garlic powder • ¼ tsp. onion powder

5. Put a teaspoon full of cream cheese mix on each flat side of sprout. Sprinkle with a nice amount of crunch topping. Continue until you have all the sprouts with some cheese on top.

4. Light up 32 more coals. That gives you 20 minutes to do the next step!

6. When the coals are ready, put down a ring of 8-9 coals. Place the oven on top. Then place the lid on. Put the remainder of coals on lid. Cook until crunchy topping is nicely browned, about 10 minutes.

Directions 1. Heat up at least 12 coals so that you can toast up the cut brussel sprouts. 2. While the coals are heating, mix the cut brussel sprouts with olive oil and seasoned salt in a bowl. 3. Place the dutch oven on the coals. Then, place all the sprouts with cut side down. Grill until they are brown. Turn them over and brown/soften the sprouts. You can put the lid on the oven and put more coals on the lid to make the job go quicker.

7. Remove the lid. A spatula will lift the brussel sprouts to a serving tray. Place an extra dot of sriracha sauce on each popper for a bit more kick. 8. Enjoy!

YOUR TECH QUESTIONS ANSWERED!

Q

Hi, Bill! We are somewhat new to the RV world and need your advice. My wife and I have a 2015 Southwind motor home that had about 1,800 miles on it when we purchased it. When we are riding, sometimes we hear a popping sound on the driver side front. I asked the service advisor if it had been an accident and he said no it had not been in an accident. My warranty will expire in October. Thanks, Bobby and Dell Carter

Q

Hi Bill, I read the tech question about the 2012 Fleetwood Bounder Classic and the problem with the rear bath. Your answer may have been entirely correct but I have an idea you might also want to consider. I boated for over 35 years in vessels that were equipped with Vac-U-Flush. I don’t know what brand is in the Fleetwood but I have had a steep learning curve on the Sealand system and it was not unusual for the base to leak if used by a “big guy.” Leaning to the side with weight on the unit caused the rubber seal to compress on one side resulting in a leak. Sometimes a new seal was all that was needed; sometimes a good application of Silicone grease. Don Zielke

A

I contacted Mr. Carter by email before his warranty ran out to get him the help he needed. I suggested that he drive the motorhome for the technician while he listened as the tech moved around to better pinpoint the noise. Perhaps the shock absorber is the culprit. There could be a broken piece of the framing. Another option would be to install a GoPro Camera close to the noise. Keep a paper

A

Thank you for your input Don. Fleetwood uses Thetford toilets as standard equipment. I am familiar with Sealand toilets, bought by Dometic and you are correct. The base is very small and somewhat unstable, and can be exacerbated by a soft floor. Thetford toilets are very stable and rarely have this problem.

Q

Bill, I see it was mentioned in the Sept. 2015 Trailblazer that you may have a YouTube channel. I can’t find it when I look up Ask RV Bill…how can I find more of you?! In the Grip of His Grace, Dave Rosenberg

trail and log when the repairs are done for future reference. Before you put the RV back into storage, be sure to give it a good test drive for certainty that the matter has been resolved. Thanks for your kind words on this column. It is my sincere pleasure to help fellow RV enthusiasts.

A

Dave, In addition to my column here at the TrailBlazer, my wife and I freelance for several other magazines. Many of my articles can be found on my web site www.BillGehr.com and you can also search YouTube by my name, Bill Gehr, to find lots and lots of footage from the DVD series The ABC’s of RV’s and snippets from my time on RV Today. Thanks, and I hope this additional info is a helpful source of RV related information. Standing on The Promises right along with you!

Q

Hi Bill, We bought our 2013 Bighorn 5th wheel new in Jan of 2014. Used it several times last year, stored it with wheel covers and a RV cover over the winter. This year, we have been on the road since spring. I had 2 near blowouts on the back tires of the trailer. These were Tomax tires made in China. I have a tire monitor for the trailer. However, in this case the tire was still inflated but had a huge balloon on the sidewall. This happened to both tires. If it had not been for someone coming up beside me and pointing to the tire I don’t know what would have happened. Took the trailer to a tire shop here in Oregon and they saw very uneven wear on the other 2. Had all 5 tires replaced. These tires had less than 4,000 miles on them. My question is: Are these tires under sized for this trailer and what would cause this? This was very unnerving and we did not want to travel very far from home. Loved our travel to the parks in California. Steve Clark

A

Tire trouble of any sort is downright unnerving, especially while trying to get to your destination. Cheap tires seem to have taken over as standard equipment for most RV manufacturers in the last few years. It is not likely the tires were under sized or weight, but they could be overloaded quickly as the tires may be on the borderline for necessary load capacity. From the get-go, I always recommend replacing inferior tires after purchasing a new RV with a high quality ST (special trailer) tire and perhaps more load capacity if needed. Weigh your rig when it’s fully loaded before making a decision on what exact load range tires you will need. Maxxis ST and Goodyear G614 are great tires. The uneven wear could be an alignment problem. A large percentage of trailers come from the factory out of alignment. One easy solution; add on a Correct Track alignment system. This will allow you to change the alignment any time you see uneven wear on tires.

Q

Hi, Bill! I own a 1996 Beaver motorhome. Lately, I’ve noticed that the ceiling fabric has become stained from recent rain storms. I know that I need to take care of the leaks but what can I do to improve the appearance of the stained fabric short of replacing? Thank you, Kim Griffin

A

Kim, hello friend! The problem that you are describing is easily solved by using a product called Instagone Stain Remover. It is found on Amazon for approximately $16. Be sure that you follow the directions carefully for maximum results. You may need to treat the fabric two or three times for optimal results. This powerful stain remover is also good for curtains or day/night shades. Thank you for helping make the Sunriver TT preserve so special to us.

paws ROAD ON THE

Traveling and Camping with Companion Animals by Jenn Gehr

Q + A

Jenn, My English Bulldog, Daisy Girl, has been the love of my life for 5 years. She is a rescue and 9 years old. Although she is a big dog, she has many food sensitivities and needs very limited and organic ingredients for optimal health. Daisy was recently diagnosed with a common form of hyperkeratosis on her sweet nose and I’m in search of an organic remedy. I know that you value such products and care for your pets. I am hopeful you can steer me towards a solution for my fur child. I love your monthly column and look forward to your response. Sincerely, Stella Cragg JENN Thank you so much for this caring inquiry and kind compliment. I completely understand the desire and importance of quality, organic and natural remedies whenever possible. Hyperkeratosis is an often overlooked, yet common condition in older dogs that causes the skin on your dog and cats noses and paws to thicken and harden. This occurs when the body produces too much keratin for one reason or another and the result is the skin on the nose and paws becomes callous-like and often cracks. The build up not only looks unsightly but can lead to infection. The disease, once properly diagnosed by a veterinarian, can’t be cured but can be managed with regular care. The very best remedy I have found to

prevent and protect delicate paws and sweet noses is made by the The Natural Dog Company (www. NaturalDogCompany. com.) The creators of this outstanding company are located in the beautiful TX Hill Country, and are 100% committed to USA made, organic, holistic healing products to help beloved creatures like your Daisy Girl. The Natural Dog Company’s “Snout Soother” and “Paw Soother” products are going to be a lifesaver for you! Easy to apply, these products heal FAST! Especially when I am in a dry climate, I notice that my dogs’ noses begin to get chapped. Now, I don’t wait for the symptoms, I just use the Snout Soother a few times a week and I never have a problem. Their little noses stay moist and glossy…perfect for happy, puppy kisses! Personally, I have very sensitive skin and regularly use their healing balm on my chapped knees, cuticles and toes with excellent results. The Natural Dog Company is certified Vegan, All- Natural, Cruelty Free, and Organic! What’s not to love!? Be sure to check out their entire line of products and the many incentives this company offers to help veterinarians, breeders, and rescue organizations alike to get their product to animals in need. If I am going to use any product on my “fur child,” as you said, it had better be good enough for me as well. The Natural Dog Company is extending a special Promo Code “TRAILBLAZER” that will allow readers like YOU to receive a 15% discount on your purchase! Jenn, I have a limited budget but 5 kids in the family to whom all adore their smallish dogs and cats (pets are family, after all!) and each are sports fans.

Do you have any affordable, under $40 if possible, creative gift ideas that I may use throughout the year that are locally made? Thanks You MUCH, Under Wraps JENN Hello! You know I am always on the look out for locally made, quality products for all of our pets! My solve all and creative go-to seamstress, Tenna White of www.pamper-ur-pet. com offers all sorts of items to meet your gifts giving need throughout the year. When Tenna is not creating amazing, custom dog and cat Snuggle Beds, Fluffy Beds, kennel pads, made to order reversible fleece jackets and more, she can be found at local dog shows selling the very best year round necessities and thoughtful gifts set to surely please even the most discriminating pet owner. Tenna’s fabrics are boutique quality and she offers a wide range of prints, solids, patterns, and yes, sports logos for truly one-of-a-kind pampering that will more than suit people and pets of all shapes and sizes while going easy on the pocketbook. I had her make me a throw blanket to my exact measurements that acts as a protective cover across the back of my couch, a truck seat cover when we are on the road and a perfect leg wrap at night while watching TV or at the local football game. Don’t miss her new, pull over fleece dog jackets for those cooler days! Every time someone sees my dogs wearing their reversible fleece sweaters, they say, “Oh my goodness! Where can I get one like that?!” The website alone is enough to inspire affordable gift ideas while allowing your mind to wander to future must-have items.
