How Managers should build Rapport with Their Team So you have a project in hand and you have been selected to manage the entire thing including the team that is going to work on it, right? Now, do you have any idea as to how you are going to do that? Did you have any prior training? Do you know how to build rapport with your team members and make them equally responsive to you? If you do not know any of these, then there is a tough road ahead of you. However, with proper learning and development training courses, you can have a sigh of relief as you will be aware of it all from the beginning of the project. Training goes in everything. It is not just the trainers who need a corporate training course. Even the team leader or manager requires it to fare well in his/her respective positions. You are always in a training mode when you are supervising. But, very few people will like you if you do not build rapport with your team.

Here’s how you are going to do that: Show Some RespectIf you show respect, you will get respect in return. Always be empathic about their needs and watch how they take the same attitude toward you. Just imagine you scolded someone for underperforming only to find out that he/she has undergone tremendous loss, illness, death or worse. How will you feel then? So, be a little gentle toward your team and you will see how they give their best for you. They will do so not out of fear but out of respect for you, which is great. Converse with ThemHave you ever thought what are you going to talk to your team member if both of you get stuck somewhere for some time? Apart from the basic gestures, you should also be comfortable enough to talk to them on different topics. That way you will get to know them better and vice versa. Easy To ApproachManagers having an aura of attitude and snootiness about them are not much liked by their team members. You should be the one giving out an essence of optimism so that people feel it easier to come to you. If you are the former type of manager, they will be afraid to tell you your problems, some of which may have an adverse effect on the project you people are working on. So, be approachable and enthusiastic. However, that does not mean you should not be strict or you should accept lame excuses. That's a different story altogether. Be CaringIf someone is sick, give them a day’s leave. If someone is not able to work because of some tragic reason, talk to them, make them feel that they are okay and then see if they are able to cope with their loss. A good manager should always be a friend first, a boss later. You are a team member. Even if you are a supervisor, you should not forget that you are a part of your team. A number of learning and development training courses are there that enhance your managerial skills apart from your training ones. There is no point in training a team that does not like you or are no way responsive to you. Get a certificate in corporate training if you want to enjoy your position to the fullest and progress along with your team, not alone. With the knowledge and experience that you will gain, you can take your team forward and make them break a leg out there.
