The First Aid In The Workplace training course provides the learner with a comprehensive grounding in first aid and details the practical skills needed to confidently deliver assistance in a workplace emergency. The course meets the standard required to comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations. The course is designed to be instructive and engaging, with a balance of practical and theoretical information, and engaging video content to illustrate learning points.

This course is designed for people who are new to the subject of workplace first aid and who want by the end of the course to have the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies.

MODULE ONE

THE AIM OF FIRST AID In Module One we look at the purpose of first aid in the workplace and briefly look at the regulations governing employers. The module then addresses how to attend to a casualty in a first aid situation, and details the steps of The Primary Survey. The module also covers workplace first aid kits and what they should include.

THE SECONDARY SURVEY In Module Two we move on to the stages of The Secondary Survey and how to safely put a casualty into the recovery position. The module also explains how to practically respond in some common first aid situations such as choking.

CHOKING In Module Three we explore some other commonplace injuries that can occur in the workplace, such as burns, broken bones and head injuries.

LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of the course learners will be able to demonstrate that they can:

• Learn valuable skills that could help lead to saving someone’s life. • Understand the differences between the primary and secondary surveys and how each must be used to assess and take care of an injured person. • Discover how and when to administer CPR and if a defibrillator will be required. • Identify an array of injuries and conditions and what you can do to help treat each one.
