Dr Hisham Sherfi who is both a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist has joined the team at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in the UK and will lead this service. Dr Sherfi will be offering comprehensive and expert care to patients with a wide variety of liver diseases.
Rapid & Acute diagnosis of liver disease. Cirrhosis/Fibrosis is scarring of the liver and develops silently with most patients experiencing no signs or symptoms until they present at an advanced stage.
The Bon Secours Hospital Tralee is one of just a few hospitals in Ireland that can offer the latest technology to assess the health of your liver.
Our state-of-the-art ultrasound FibroScanner provides a quick, non-invasive, painless test to measure liver fibrosis or scar tissue and the amount of fat in the liver. Patients who would benefit from such a scan (but are not limited to) include those who have concerns about their liver health, have a family history of liver disease, patients with high alcohol intake, diabetes, fatty liver disease, hepatitis and haemochromatosis.
Dr Sherfi advises that “it is important that we identify patients with liver disease as early as possible and having access to a FibroScanner allows us to do just that. I would encourage anyone who has concerns about their liver health to in the first instance, talk to their GP and if appropriate, their GP can make a referral to the Hepatology service here in the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee”.
FibroScan fee:
The fee for the examination is €200. This includes the examination, review and reporting of results with recommendations to your doctor by our Consultant Hepatologist.
