The History of TransForm Electrical Wholesalers TRANSFORM first began operating as an electrical wholesaling company in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in 1975. This makes it a company with a 34 year heritage. The founding members at that time were Rob Walmsley and Alan Bird. Seven years later, in 1982, both Rob Walmsley and Alan Bird immigrated to South Africa with the objective of starting TRANSFORM South Africa. The local group has been in existence for almost 27 years now. Rob’s brother, Alan Walmsley, ACIS FCIBM previously worked in the U.K. as an International Business and Training Consultant for Ronald Sewell & Associates. Together the brothers started TRANSFORM ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS in King Williams Town in 1982. Alan Bird started TRANSFORM ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS in Louis Trichard later that same year. In 1991, the decision was made to expand TRANSFORM to other centres, and so a East London branch was opened. Mark Bursey, who was an External Sales Representative for GEC and a qualified Electrician, was appointed as a third shareholder of the East London business. Reg Sharp who has several years experience in the electrical industry was appointed Branch Manager of East London in May 2000, and remains in that position. In 1996, a branch was opened in Port Elizabeth. Mike Murphy, a qualified Electrician, with management experience at both Schneider and Voltex, was appointed as a third shareholder and Branch Manager of the PE business. He remains in that position. Two years later, in 1998, the George branch was formed and Stephen Grobler was appointed as Branch Manager, and remains in that position. The George branch opened a sub-branch in Plettenburgbay in 2003 and that branch is now operating very successfully under the watchful eyes of Stephen Grobler and Ursula Webb. some views of the trading desk in our Cape Town branch
