“Katie brings great energy and enthusiasm which we believe will elevate our program to being a championship contender,” states Transylvania Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Chaney. “I am ecstatic and honored to be joining the staff at Transylvania University,” shares Hastings. “During my visit, I was immediately blown away by the beautiful campus, the kindness of everyone I met with, and the facilities.” Hastings brings a chiseled coaching philosophy rooted in leadership, culture, and cultivating a valuable student-athlete experience coupled with a coaching background which spans multiple winning programs in Division III field hockey. Over the past two seasons, Hastings has been part of a Salisbury coaching staff which has extended a championship tradition as a national power in 10

Division III field hockey. In Hastings’ most recent campaign with her alma mater, Salisbury produced a 17-3 record, culminating in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. During her two seasons as part of the Salisbury staff, the Sea Gulls delivered a 29-8 record with both seasons resulting in NCAA Tournament berths. Hastings’ role at Salisbury specialized in working with defensive players and goalies, translating into a top-10 national ranking for the Sea Gulls in goalsagainst average during the 2018 season. Salisbury produced 11 shutouts in 20 contests, ranking sixth in the country for shutouts. Before returning to Salisbury in a coaching capacity, Hastings spent the 2016 season with Division III Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania as an assistant coach. Spearheading team operations and recruiting efforts, Hastings helped the Presidents achieve a 15-5 record during the 2016 season. Since 2014, Hastings has also held an association with the USA Field Hockey Futures Program as the Region 7 Assistant Coach and Site Director where she is a Level I and Level II certified coach. Hastings’ active coaching career follows a standout playing career at Salisbury which spanned from 2011 through 2014. Hastings was a team captain on the most recent Salisbury squad to appear in an NCAA National Championship game in 2013. Her playing credentials also include 2013 NFHCA All-Region Second Team recognition and an invitation into the 2013 NFHCA Senior Game. “I am looking forward to helping transform the field hockey program here at Transy and working towards winning a SAA conference championship,” adds Hastings. “As we work towards a unified ‘We over Me’ culture, I believe each player will thrive both on and off the field, in the classroom, and in the community.”
