In fact, 42 percent of our students participate in our 26 intercollegiate teams. We challenge our student-athletes to demonstrate high standards of character and achievement both in the classroom and on the field. Since Transylvania’s transition to the NCAA in 2001, the Pioneers have earned 38 Heartland Conference championships, more than 30 NCAA tournament appearances, 41 Coach of the Year awards and 46 All-American athlete awards.
Transylvania occupies a unique and historic position in American higher education. Founded in 1780 as the first college west of the Allegheny Mountains, Transylvania was a pioneer in bringing the light of learning to what was then the nation’s frontier. Today, the university is a highly regarded liberal arts college with a reputation for the quality of our academics and the personal approach we bring to teaching and learning. With 40 majors and a number of pre-professional programs, Transylvania offers excellent preparation for graduate and professional school as well as a variety of careers immediately following graduation. Transylvania has enjoyed more than a decade of success since joining the NCAA Division III in 2004. The athletics community has excelled both on and off the field, with student-athletes thriving in the classroom and in competition.

Transylvania’s athletic training staff strives to provide the highest quality healthcare to its studentathletes. The Certified Athletic Trainers are highly qualified and trained medical professionals with diverse educational backgrounds and experiences.
Transylvania has two athletic training rooms for its student-athletes. The main athletic training room is on the performance floor of the Beck Center with the secondary training room located in the field house at the Athletics Complex and both are open daily. Each training room is equipped with state-of-the-art injury prevention and rehabilitation equipment.
Nick Reuss joined the Transylvania sports medicine staff in 2011. He holds a Master of Science in recreation and sport sciences from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Ohio University. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and is certified by the Kinesio Taping Association as a Kinesio Taping Practitioner.

Transylvania partners with Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine Center to provide our student-athlete healthcare. Lexington Clinic orthopedic surgeons David Dome, Peter Hester, Ben Kibler and Trevor Wilkes serve as team doctors for the university and make weekly campus visits, eliminating the need to travel off-campus.

The sports medicine staff is fully accredited by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The staff specializes in the prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of injuries to our student-athletes. Athletic trainers have been recognized by the American Medical Association as allied healthcare professionals since 1990.
Alaina White is in her tenth season as a member of the athletic training staff. She served five years as an assistant trainer before being named the head trainer in 2011. White holds a Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Ohio University and a Master of Science in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration from Eastern Kentucky University. White has a special interest in soft tissue mobilization and hands-on rehabilitation, holding a certification in Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization.

Libby Cole begins her second year with the Transylvania sports medicine staff in 2015-16 after two years at Division I Wight State University in Dayton, Ohio. At Wright State, Cole worked as a graduate assistant and certified athletic trainer. She received her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Miami (Ohio) University before earning a master’s degree in physical education and sports management from Wright State in 2014

Fulks Head Coach
Juli Fulks is in her second season as head coach of the Transylvania women’s basketball program in 2015-16.
NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark College, one of the Top 75 National Liberal Arts Colleges in the country. Fulks took over at Lewis & Clark prior to the 200405 season inheriting a team that posted a 1-15 conference record. In her first season at the helm, Fulks led her team to an 8-8 record in Northwest Conference play and a 12-12 overall mark in one of the 20 most improved seasons in the nation.
Under Fulks’ guidance, Lewis & Clark found their place atop the Top-25 USA Today rankings each the past three years, ranking as high as seventh nationally in 2011 on its way to a 25-4 season. Following the 2011 season, Fulks was named NWC Coach Fulks took the Pioneers of the Year while player Kristina Williams earned to new heights in her NWC Player of the Year honors. Transylvania also rattled off 17 consecutive wins from Dec. 30-Feb. 28, surpassing the program record of 13 consecutive wins set in 2002-03. Fulks comes to Lexington from Portland, Ore. where she served for 10 years as the head coach at
ranking in the nation’s top 10 in field goal and free throw shooting percentage.
A native of Dola, Ohio, Fulks was a member of the 1997 Capital University team that reached the Final Four after snagging the Ohio Athletic Conference title. After graduating with a degree in biology, she later earned a master’s in education from Defiance. Fulks remains the all-time leading scorer at Hardin Northern High School with more than 1,600 career points.

Prior to Lewis & Clark, Bray spent two seasons playing wood bat baseball at Clackamas Community College. Bray split time at the Asst. Coach infield positions before finding a home at first base during his second year in the program. In his sophomore year, Bray was named Second-Team NWAACC All-South Region first baseman, batting .280 with a perfect fielding percentage. Prewitt Asst. Coach
Maggie Prewitt is in her second year with Transylvania, serving as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program.
Prewitt, a 2012 Centre College graduate, had a decorated playing career, where she was named 2009 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, 2010 SCAC First Team, two-time SCAC Player of the Year (2011, 2012), South Region Player of the Year and First Team All-American (2012). Prior to joining the Transylvania staff, Prewitt worked as the head coach for the middle school and freshmen women’s basketball teams and an assis-
tant coach for the JV and varsity women’s basketball teams in the Bath County School District, while also working as a substitute teacher in the elementary, middle and high schools. Prewitt also provided weekly basketball lessons to middle school boys. In the summer of 2015, Prewitt joined a select number of elite women’s assistants from across the country as part of the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Leadership Workshop hosted by the United States Marine Corps. Prewitt earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Spanish from Centre. 11

Bewley
Asst. Coach
Loren Bewley will serve her second season as a volunteer assistant to the women’s basketball team in 2015-16. Bewley, a 2009. Transylvania alumna, received her master of science from Eastern Kentucky University in 2014. During her time at Transy, Bewley was a four year member of the softball team and a three year member of the women’s basketball program. After graduating, she held a number of assistant coaching positions prior to joining the Pioneers, including stints at West Jessamine Middle School, West Jessamine High School and The Lexington School. Bewley has also worked as an intern for the Transylvania athletics department and the Lexington Legends front office and a mental health associate and crisis line counselor for Eastern State Hospital. She received a bachelor of arts in Psychology and a minor in exercise science from Transylvania before earning her MS in physical education with a concentration in sports administration from EKU. Prior to joining the TU staff, he served as an Associate Head Coach or Assistant Coach for the women’s basketball program at Lewis & Clark College for 10 years. While at Lewis & Clark, Whitesel helped the Pioneers win the Northwest Conference twice and participate in the NCAA tournament three times.

Victoria Cecil will serve her first year as a volunteer assistant to the women’s basketball team in 2015-16 An alumna of University of the Cumberlands, Cecil was named to the All-Conference Academic Team in the Mid South Conference for two consecutive seasons (2014-2015). Prior to transferring to UC, she earned a second team All-Conference selection and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the 2012-2013 season while at the University of West Florida. Beofre coming to Lexington, Cecil served as the skill development coordinator at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Fla. Cecil also holds an Annual Winter Skills Camp every December. Cecil served as basketball operations leader for the junior varsity team during the 2014 basketball season at the University of the Cumberlands. She is a 2015 University of the Cumberlands graduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in fitness and sports management along with a minor in business administration.

Whitesel
Previous to Lewis & Clark, Whitesel was the Head Girls Coach at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon, and coached collegiate men’s basketball at Concordia University (Oregon) and Eastern Oregon University.
