Pucayaquillo Waterfall

Day 1 Tarapoto-Pumarinri 13:00 10:35 Airport to Pumarinri Lodge. Suggested flight LA 2254, 10: 55/12:20. 13:00 Arrival at Pumarinri Lodge. This lodge is located next to the river Hualllaga and is a privileged location surrounded by forests, rivers and streams. This place is a biological bridge, because it is located between the area of Cerro Escalera Regional Conservation and the Cordillera Azul National Park. 13:30 Lunch at the Lodge. 14:30 According to the weather we will walk to the Waterfall Pucayaquillo, its water is particulary crystalline and runs along a dense vegetation. This walk will allow us to observe and experience the wonderful biodiversity of the forest, such as different types of insects, medicinal plants, birds,

frogs, giant trees and ferns. The Falls has a drop of 20 m. high, and if you want you can enjoy a refreshing swim. 16:30 Return to the Lodge. 19:00 Dinner and overnight at Lodge Pumarinri. B-L


Yacumama Tourist Complex

Day2 Pumariri-Cocachimba (Gocta) 08:00 After breakfast, we will go to Cocachimba village and stay at Gocta Lodge. 10:00 On the route we will visit the Orchid Garden Waqanki in Moyobamba. This natural conservation center is managed by a local family. They have more than 200 species of orchids, also they have a number of bird feeders where you could see up to 20 species of hummingbirds. 12:00 Departure Yacumama Tourist Complex for lunch. Here we are able to eat its gastronomy as tacacho with jerky and sausage, grilled Yacumama with exquisite fresh Tilapia from lagoons, and many fruit juices jungle. Then we will rest and watch its beautiful scenery and if you woul like, you can take a boat ride across the lagoon.

13:30 We will continue to travel to Cocachimba. This road takes us through private conservation area Abra Patricia, crossing the Alto Mayo Protected Forest. This conservation area is characterized by having one of the most diverse mountain forests in Peru. Then we continue cross a typical Andean landscape with pastures and fields. 17:00 Arrive Cocachimba. 19:00 Dinner and overnight at Lodge Gocta. D-A-C


Day 3

Catarata Gocta

Cocachimba - Catarata Gocta 08:00 After breakfast, we will go towards the Gocta waterfall by foot or horseback. During the tour we will see fields and orchids. It is also possible to find different species of birds in the area. One of the best known is the "Cock of the Rocks", the national bird of Peru. Gocta is a waterfall with two drops and its total height is 771 meters and is one of the highest waterfalls in the world. Here you will live a unique experience, hard to forget. 13:00 After 5 hours of walking we reach the Gocta Lodge where we will have a lunch. The afternoon is free to relax or take a look around the town. 18:30 Night and dinner at Gocta Lodge. B-L-D


Karajía sarcophagi

Day4 Karajía – Caverna de Quiocta 07:30 After breakfast we will go to Karajía´s Sarcophagi. Its measure is approximately 2.50 m high and have human forms. It is characterized by its unique form of burial in the world and decorated with skulls on the sarcophagi, figures and colors. In these tombs important people of Chachapoyas culture were buried. 13:00 Lunch at Lamud. Restaurante Casa Linda. 14:00 Transfer to Quiocta´s caves. The caves are located in the bottom of a mountain, which is part of the Andes; it covers an area of more than 500 meters long. There is 6 zones with stalactites and stalagmites (mineral deposits in caves), which are beautiful and natural formations. 16:30 Departure to Hotel Casa Vieja in Chachapoyas.

18:00 Arrival at Hotel 20:00 Dinner at Restaurant El Batan del Taita. Overnight at Hotel Casa Vieja. B-L-D


Kuelap A.S.

Day 5 KuĂŠlap 08:00 After breakfast we will go to Kuelap arqueological site, which belongs to the Chachapoyas culture. This building is on the edge of a deep cliff and it is estimated that its construction was carried out by the year 1000 AD. The defense is surrounded by an impressive wall of almost 600 meters long and 20 high and other constructions around. These features make this city a mysterious and surprising place. According to recent archaeological excavations may have been an important religious center dedicated to different gods, including the god of thunder and rain. 14:00 Lunch in Maria village. 15:00 Return to Chachapoyas. 16:30 Arrival at Hostal Casa Vieja.

Day 6

Day 7

Chahapoyas-Chiclayo 08:00 After breakfast we transfer to Chiclayo. We'll go down the Utcubamba canyon to descend Marañón´s valley and reach the Peruvian coast. This trip takes about 10 hours. Along the way we will have a box lunch. 18:00 Arrive to Chiclayo city. 18.30 Overnight at Los Portales Hotel B-BL

Chiclayo 08:00 Transfer to the archaeological site Ventarrón. This place represents the rise of the first civilization of northern Peru over 4,500 years ago. In this pre-Hispanic site, you can see all architectural forms like the case of circular walls, curved walls, curved rectangular structures, altars of worship to the fire, squares in a shape like a half cross chakana and others. Ventarrón identifies an oldest American tradition, the fire worship, and It also constitutes one of the most sophisticated temples in Peru at that time, the origin of crops domestication, political organization, the symbolism of mural art. It also represents one of the oldest civilizations but also one of the most important and sustained throughout America.


Royal Tombs Museum

10:00 We will visit Huaca rajada. In this archaeological complex they discovered found the tomb of Lord of Sipan, the Old Lord of Sipan and his entire elite. The Lord of Sipan was one of the most powerful rulers of his time, who had absolute power of life and death over his people. The tomb of the Lord of Sipan is the best still existing example of the splendor and power of the Moche ancestors. The archaeologist discovered lots of fine gold, silver and copper jewelry. In his archaeological site exists many different tombs of the Moche elite whose are shown in an interesting museum. 13:00 Lunch in a typical restaurant “El Cantaro de Lambayeque”. 14:30 We visit Sipan´s Royal Tombs Museum, certainly one of the most impressive and modern archaeological museums in Southern America. The museum displays the wealth and ostentation in which the

Lord of Sipan was buried: gold and silver, fine weaving, religious emblems and military power, and large amount of ceremonial utensils. 17:30 Arrival at Hotel. B-L


El Brujo A.S.

Day 8 Chiclayo-Trujillo 07:30 Transfer to Trujillo city. 9:00 On the route, we will visit El Brujo´s Archaeological Complex and the Museum of Cao in Magdalena de Cao city. This is one of the most valuable archaeological sites on the northern coast of Peru. It has a long cultural sequence of occupation that began in the pre-ceramic period (3000 b.C.). However, Moche culture (0-700 a.C.) has left many evidences in this area. Two discoveries have given a greater meaning to this complex. On the one side, a large adobe pyramid of 30 meters high, where Mochica culture draw in high relief, captivating new images as "The Decapitator". On the other side, the discovery of the Dame or Lady of Cao (2006), also known as the Lady of the tattoos. In her tomb they discovered pottery and ornaments of gold, silver andcopper, and others; Never before they found an ancient Peruvian woman´s

mummy with its own outfit of the warrior aristocracy. Site Museum Cao takes us through the daily and symbolic universe of the inhabitants of this part of Peru. Here we could see customs and beliefs of the past with present day and ends with the enigmatic discovery of recent times: the Lady Cao. 13:30 Arriving in Trujillo city. Lunch at Fiesta Gourmet restaurant. 15:30 Arrival at Paraiso Hotel.


Trujillo’s principal square

Day 9 Trujillo 08:30 Transfer to Moche's countryside. We´ll meet a still living culture: Mochica's heritage. First we will visit the pottery and crafts workshop "The Face Inconceivable". Mochica culture created an environment of their own, in realistic and expressive ceramic. They gave an aesthetic and thematic quality to their ceramics and it has become the best testimony of their daily and spiritual life. In the workshop, you can witness craft production, techniques and materials that were rescued by Moche´s countryside habitants. During the visit to the workshop, the folkloric group "Los Caimanes” (The Alligators) presents a sample of some music using Moche's traditional instruments such as pututo and ceramic trumpet. Then we will go to the Temples of the Sun and the Moon and the Moche Temples´s Museum. tThe Moon temple has a number of temples built on top of each other for

many years, also it has 12 thousand square meters of polychrome murals. Its rich iconography and aesthetics are of outstanding universal value which reflects a pattern that was built in about seven centuries. In the upper part of adobe bricks walls, you can see the remains of many walls, decorated with figures of multicolored religious symbols; the most important is Ai-apaec or "God of the Mountains". Also it represents an exceptional testimony of the Moche cultural tradition as it materializes political power through religious ideas. In the museum, you will see aspects of Moche´s life, the city and their environment. Also, you can witness the cult of power and the god of the mountains (Aia Paec), we are sure you will like rediscovering iconography and architecture Moche.

12:00 Afterwards we´ll visit the Huaca Arco Iris (rainbow temple) or Dragon. Its structure presents a series of stacked platforms from east to west. This temple was used for religious celebrations in honor of the rainbow and other natural phenomena, related to rainfall and soil fertility. It is also called Huaca El Dragon because of its figure that still exists in one of the main walls. This figure has two heads, like a dragon, with endless legs, as a centipede. The adobe walls were decorated with reliefs that represents the rainbow. It is also known as Huaca Arco Iris. 13:00 Lunch at the Huanchaco Beach restaurant. This village is well known for their artisanal fishermen who still fish in boats, as used hundreds of years ago by the Moches, called "reed horses".


Nik-An Palace / Chan Chan A.S.

14:30 Last part of the day we will visit in Chan Chan archaeological complex, the Nik-An Palace. Chan Chan has been recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. It was the capital of the Chimu Empire that flourished in the region after the fall of the Moche e m p i re a n d c o v e r s a n a re a of approximately 20 square kilometers. The central area is formed by a set of 10 walled enclosures (called "citadels") and pyramids. The Citadel Nik-An is the largest illustration of the importance of water, particularly the sea, that Chimu culture worshipped. The high reliefs on the walls represents fishes, directed north and south that can be interpreted as the two streams that make the Peruvian coast, the Humboldt (a cold current) coming from the south and the Child (a hot current), coming from the north as well as waves, rhombus (fishing nets), pelicans and anzumitos (mixture of sea lion and otter).

Travel tips  Climate: In the region of San Martin the weather is generally warm and humid with variants of cloudiness and sunshine in the morning. Short rains can occur until long periods with heavy rain. Usually in the Andes is dry and cold with alternations of sunshine and clouds. In the Pacific coast climate is generally dry and warm. Between June and August can be very cold and slightly damp.  Time zone: Peru is 5 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time. It has the same time zone as the Eastern Time Zone of the United States, but no time setting between summer and winter.

Immunizations: Not required, but a vaccine against yellow fever is recommended 10 days before travel.  Electricity: 220 volts in all cities. 
