Basketball Workouts
Warming up for the big game Warm-ups before a basketball game are very important. It conditions the muscles so that proper circulation of blood to these muscles is ensured. It somewhat “practices the muscles and makes them ready for the rigorous activity faced during the basketball game.
Doing warm-ups are essential to prevent injury to the basketball player while playing the game. This shouldn't be taken for granted because doing warm-ups helps the basketball player prepare physically and warm ups increase the performance of the body.
The basics of warm up exercises or workouts before playing basketball involves stretching the muscles and cardiovascular exercise such as running around the court three times.
Head Bend the head forward, then bring it back to the center and then bend the head to the back. Repeat 10 to 15 times. Bend the head on one side, bring it back to the center and then bend to the other side. Repeat 10 to 15 times

Make a circle using the head starting from side of the ear near the shoulder, then to the front, then to the other side of the ear, then to the back and back to the starting point. Do this again in the opposite direction. Repeat head circling 5 to 10 times.
Arms Extend one arm sideways away from the midline of the body. Imagine holding the wall with your palm and fingers spread apart. Make forward circles and repeat 10 to 15 times. Make backward circles and repeat 10 to 15 times. Do this with the other arm and then with both arms simultaneously.
Stretch one arm by crossing it over to the other side of the body and locking it with the other hand until you feel a comfortable stretch. Hold for about 15 to 30 seconds. Do it with the other arm. Reach the farthest point of the back that the arm can reach using one arm and push the elbow with the other hand until you feel a comfortable stretch. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds and repeat with the other arm.
Hips

Stand and take a step backwards using one foot. Bend the knee in front and shift the weight back to the opposite hip. Bend forward and reach farther down to the back leg making sure that the legs are kept straight. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. Switch to the other side and repeat.
Quadriceps Stand on one foot and grasp the other foot with one hand at the back and make the foot touch the buttocks until you feel a comfortable stretch. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds and repeat with the other leg.
Calves Face the wall and lean forward using the arms for support. Put one foot forward and bend the knee. Put the other foot backward keeping the leg and knee straight and the heel down. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds switch sides and repeat with the other foot and leg.
Achillesâ€&#x; tendon Face the wall and lean forward using the arms for support. Put one foot forward and bend the knee. Put the other foot backward keeping the leg straight, knee bent and the heel down. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds switch sides and repeat with the other foot and leg.

Legs Hold on to anything for support with both hands. Bend the knee and extend the leg forward. Then swing the leg backwards from the previous position. Repeat 10 to 15 times. Switch legs and repeat.
Hold on to anything for support. Swing one leg about 30 degrees from the floor and return to standing position. Swing the leg again a little higher than before. Keep on swinging gradually increasing the height until the highest comfortable height is reached. Do this about 10-15 times and then switch legs and repeat.
Jumping Jacks Stand straight with feet together. Do a low jump landing with the feet apart as well as bringing your arms up from the sides to the top of your head. Do a low jump when returning to the starting position. Repeat 15 to 30 times.
A simple warm up exercise shouldn't be taken for granted. A little time should be allotted for warm ups before each basketball game or practice to help prepare the muscles and increase the ability of the body to perform at it's best. When taken for granted it can hurt the basketball players and may even cause injuries. Everybody should do themselves a favor and warm up properly.

Basketball Basics – Defense Playing basketball with tenacious defense
During a basketball game, people commonly shout the word “DEFENSE!” Come to think of it, do people in the stadium really know the meaning of the word? Does the basketball team, players and coaches, understand the meaning of the word? Is the value and importance of the word defense recognized? Sometimes basketball players themselves take it for granted. Everyone should remember that it is as important as scoring. A closer look at playing basketball defense is done in this chapter to clearly stress the meaning and importance of the word DEFENSE.
Defense is the team that doesn't have the ball. Defense is also the act of protecting the basket and making it impossible for the offense, which is the team who has ball, to score.
It can be considered as a state of mind that dictates the body to do measures to keep the other team from scoring. It is the “get the ball” attitude that fuels the defensive team along with the desire to win.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Defensive skills can be taught and learned as long as the player puts his heart in it and realizes its importance in every basketball game.
Transition Play Moving from offensive to defensive play should be done quickly. Defensive assignments should be set as soon as the basketball gets out of the teamâ€&#x;s hands so the offensive team can't get ahead. The mentality of the players at this point should be to get the ball back immediately.
Purpose Put the offensive team under a lot of pressure. Don't let the other team peak through an open shot or an open man. Guard every player and every corner and be aware of the moves and observe the play of the offensive team. Distract the ball handler through noises and movements so the communication between the offensive players will be disturbed. Put those arms up and use the body to block the ball handlerâ€&#x;s view. Decrease the chances of giving them opportunities to establish their team play. Keep your eyes open for rebounding and ball stealing opportunities and get the ball back! Stay between the basket and the offensive player.
Be Ready
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Keep the lead hand close to the ball and wave the other hand to prevent a pass from taking place. The defense playerâ€&#x;s opposite foot of the offense playerâ€&#x;s dominant hand should always be kept forward with the same hand extended out with the palms up. This will allow an easy steal if an opportunity comes.
There are three types of defense: the man on man defense, the zone defense and the combination of the two, which is the Box 1 defense.
Man to man defense is the simplest and most common among the defenses. One player is assigned to guard a specific player of the offensive team at all times. For example the point guard of the defense team guards the point guard of the offensive team. Match-ups are determined based on the playerâ€&#x;s height, speed and athletic ability.
Man to man defense is an aggressive style that allows forced steals and puts every offensive player under a lot of pressure. The danger of this style of defense is that when the offense player outsmarts the defense player, there will be no defense player to help continue to screen the ball because everybody else is preoccupied with guarding his/her own man. These results in the outnumbering of offense players versus the defense players can help make the offense score.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
In zone defense, each player is assigned to cover a specific area or zone instead of one player. There are many kinds of zone defenses. These are usually listed with numbers wherein the numbers correspond to the number of players in a particular zone. A 2-3 zone defense, for example, indicates that there should be two players manning the area near the three point line and three players manning the baseline. More often than not, a zone defense is limited to the key or the painted area.
There are some instances when a man-to-man defense and a zone defense are simultaneously put into effect. A box-1 defense for example generally is a type of zone defense where four of the players man their respective areas around the key. The fifth player, usually a guard, is assigned to guard a specific player on the opposing team, playing him in a man-to-man type of defense.
Basketball Basics – Offense
OFFENSIVE BASKETBALL: HOW EACH PLAYER PLAYS Basketball is a rough sport but people who regularly play the sport make it really fun to watch, not to mention very easy. If one looks a little bit closer, it has also technicalities and techniques.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
The object of the game is to keep the ball in possession and score at the teamâ€&#x;s basket. If the team has the basketball they should protect it from the opponent so that they won't be able to steal it from them. This is called offense; the team who possesses the ball tries to keep the ball in their hands before they shoot and score.
Different players of the team have differences in the roles that they play during offense.
Point Guard The Point Guard acts as the coach on the floor or court during the game. Extensive knowledge of the game and good ball handling skills are very important to be able to drive the ball to the basket with the help of the other members of the team.
Good passing and dribbling skills together with great speed and fancy footwork is a technique that can be done by the point guard to keep the ball in possession and be successful in offensive play.
Reading the defense of the opponent plus doing good defense can also be applied so the point guard can penetrate and dish off and drive the ball to the basket. Point Guards take little credit for a good offensive play however, they
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
are valued by the other members of the team and the coach for they are the only ones who can understand the importance of the point guard.
Off-Guard The Off-Guard or the shooting guard acts as the best shooter among the guards of the team. In addition to the qualities of the point guard, skills in moving without the ball and consistently hitting the 15 to 20 foot shot are necessary. This playerâ€&#x;s aim is to score and assist his teammates to score. This player should read the offense play the point guard has established because this player will replace the point guard if the point guard is overplayed or has to leave the game. This player then also acts as the understudy of offense.
Center The Center plays the mean tallest player on the floor or court and is as important as the point guard. This player should be quick and aggressive because this player rebounds to get the ball in the teamâ€&#x;s possession and blocks the ball from shooting at the basket.
Shooting skills required for this player are shooting at short and mid range, lay-ups, short hooks and jump shots and therefore strong hands, strong upper body and good jumping ability comes in handy.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
This player leads the team‟s defense by reading the opponent‟s defense and using it against the opponent. Upon taking the ball in the team‟s possession, this player needs to look at the floor, see who is open and pass it so the ball can be taken to the team‟s basket and score.
Small Forward The Small Forward acts as the gifted player of the team. This player should know how to take hold of the ball and of the game. This player runs the length of the floor if needed especially during fast breaks so this player should be quick and fast.
Rebounding skills are also necessary for him to take hold of the ball and in doing so, this player does defense anywhere on the floor. This player shoots at will and should be capable of shooting from anywhere on the court or floor.
Power Forward The Power Forward does the dirty work but is like the point guard, small forward and the center. This player should also have the qualities of the center because this player controls the game in the key along with the center, doing offensive and defensive rebounding.

This player may run the length of the floor if necessary especially during fast breaks so running skills is a plus factor.
Adequate scoring and passing skills would be of great help to this player. This player does dribbling tactics and drives the ball to shoot in the basket. This player ensures that the team play is enforced properly.
The Sixth Man The sixth man plays the all in one because this player replaces any member of the team on the court or floor if necessary. This player comes right out of the bench to ensure the correct flow of the team play if the need comes to replace another player.
This player observes the play and flow of the game so that he or she can continue the gameâ€&#x;s tempo and flow and deliver quality minutes to the team while he is on the court. This player may not be part of the starting five but this player keeps the team effective.
Basketball Basics – Dribbling
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
DRIBBLING YOUR WAY OUT OF TROUBLE Learning to play basketball is a lot of hard work. One of the most basic things a player has to learn is dribbling. Dribbling is the act of bouncing the ball continuously with one hand in a repetitive motion that ends when the continuity is disturbed or when the player touches the ball with both hands simultaneously.
The ball must be continuously redirected to the floor so that the dribble isn't ended. It can also end when the ball is allowed to rest on the hands of the player and when the ball is allowed to be moved parallel or fractionally to the court using one hand.
The following measures are observed to ensure that dribbling is done properly in basketball.
The use of finger pads The padded part of the fingers are used by the player to control the basketball. Using the palms to dribble the ball should be avoided.
Spread the fingers across the ball when dribbling. The fingers should be spread for better control of the basketball. The forefinger should be in the same direction as the direction the playerâ€&#x;s body is facing.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Hand always on top When dribbling, the player should ensure that the hand is on top of the basketball to prevent the player from committing a violation, which is carrying the ball.
The hand leaves the basketball first before the pivot foot leaves the floor. If the foot leaves the floor before the basketball leaves the hand, a violation may be called, which is traveling.
Both hands should be able to dribble. Practice is needed in order for the player to dribble with either the right or the left hand.
Shield with the other hand. While dribbling with the active hand, the free hand should be used to keep the defender from getting contact with the ball. The body should also be used as a shield.
Keep eyes open and head up. This way, the player is able to see the whole court and take an appropriate action so the player is more effective with the basketball.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Quick stop. When the player wants to end the dribble, it should be done quickly to avoid any violations.
Keep it low. The body of the player together with the ball is kept low so that the defender won't be able to get hold of the ball easily.
Avoid wasting a dribble. This when dribbling once or twice and then ending the dribble. This will lead the player in a difficult situation. Always have a purpose and know the intention. The player should know what action to take next after dribbling.
Avoid dribbling with double teams
Dribbling should be avoided if there are two defenders trying to take the ball at the same time. The ball could easily go to their possession if this is done.
Avoid the corners Dribbling at the corners of the court would be of advantage to the defenders. This is because the player dribbling the ball could become trapped by the defenders at the corner of the court.
Keep it alive
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Dribbling should be done in a full of life manner before the player decides to pass or shoot. This technique makes it difficult for the defender to steal the ball but caution should be observed.
Practice makes perfect The player should do dribbling drills on his own so the dribbling skills learned during practice can be incorporated in the team play.
Proper stance The player stands erect. When dribbling with the right hand, the left food should be parallel and in front of the right with the knees slightly bent.
Leave it to the hand and wrist The hand and wrist should be used when dribbling. The arm should be near the upper body and kept close to it.
Let the waist be the basis of the height. The ball should be dribbled not higher than the waist, in front and side of the foot that is on the rear. Learning how to handle the ball is crucial in playing basketball.
Dribbling is one of the ways the player can use to control the game while the ball is in possession. It is definitely one of the skills needed in ball handling. A
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
lot of dribbling practice will pay off if the player has the ball in possession and it is up to this player to ensure that the ball remains in the possession of the team before the player shoots, makes the basket and scores. Learn the dribbling basics first and get the game going.
Basketball Basics – Passing
The basketball pass: Passing to excitement One of the skills important for a player to learn before playing the actual game of basketball is passing the basketball. Passing is the act of the handing over the basketball to the player‟s teammate.
Communication between the team members is crucial in passing. You have to acknowledge the pass first, either verbally or nonverbally, before handing over the basketball to a player. Passing can be used as an escape route in order to keep the ball in the team‟s possession if the player is heavily guarded by the defenders and later on shooting the basketball to the team‟s basket.
In basketball, passing skills are acknowledged by statistics, which are called assists. Passing the basketball may be done in several ways.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
The Chest Pass This pass is thrown in a straight line with high velocity used on the courtâ€&#x;s perimeter. When the recipient is moving, this pass is made ensuring that the player doesn't over reach to catch the basketball.
When the recipient is stationary, this pass is made ensuring that the player who will accept the basketball doesn't have to move. This pass is received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball.
In passing the basketball, it must be held at the level of the sternum, then by pushing the back foot and taking a step with the front foot while extending the arms to make the pass.
The Bounce pass The accuracy of this pass is dictated by its trajectory and speed. The change of directions of this pass makes it difficult for the defender to judge where the basketball will go, therefore making it hard to steal.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
This pass is easier to handle than an overhead pass where the recipient is moving. This pass should be caught by the recipient with a stride when he is moving and shouldn't force the recipient to move when stationary.
This pass is also received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball. When making the pass, the ball is held at waist level, altering the position from hip to hip depending on the location of the recipient. The spot where the basketball should go will be aimed three-quarters of the way between the recipient and the passer. Passing is done by pushing the back of the foot, taking a step with the front foot, while extending the arms downward to make the pass.
The Overhead Pass This is a powerful pass but an easy pass to steal. This is done so that the basketball goes over the top of the defender and is received by the other member of the team at the back of the defender.
This pass is also received in a triple threat position wherein the feet are shoulder width apart, elbows and knees bent, the shooting hand at the top and the other hand on the side of the basketball. The hands of the player are placed on both sides of the basketball. Using the playerâ€&#x;s forearms, the ball is put
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
behind the head, the back of the foot is then pushed off, the front foot takes a step, then the elbows are brought down and the arms are then extended to make the pass.
The Behind the Back Pass This pass is done behind the back without looking where the ball is going to fool the defender. This is most effective when the player is in motion because the player can easily move in the opposite direction of where the ball will go. This pass needs a lot of patience and practice because it takes time to figure out the right moves to make this pass successful. If expertise in this pass isn't mastered, it shouldn't be done during a game.
This is done by holding the basketball with both hands. The dominant handâ€&#x;s shoulder is moved towards the back and the ball is cupped by the dominant hand with the wrist and fingers pointing in the direction of the shoulderâ€&#x;s movement. The ball is then carried behind the playerâ€&#x;s back with the arms wrapped around behind the back and the basketball is then released.
The Alley-Oop Trust and timing is crucial for this pass to be successful. Practice to figure out the motion of this pass.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
A short, arching toss is the kind of action that is the easiest to receive by the other members of the team. The recipient should have the vertical leap to dunk or the basket should allow the adjustment of the rim‟s height.
The player should decide to do the alley-oop before making it to the three-point arch. The player should establish eye contact with the other member of the team, who will do the hops. A short arching tossing motion is then delivered toward the basket with a shot like motion when the recipient is two or three steps away doing the jump. The spot should be aimed barely above the rim in the side where the recipient is coming from. The other member then receives the pass and makes a dunk, and shoots the basketball in the team‟s basket.
Assisting the team to score through correct passing is just as essential as taking the shot. Good passing skills and communication among the team members is crucial to make the team‟s game play a success. Practice makes perfect and good communication among team members will go along way in basketball when passing or assisting is concerned.
Basketball Basics – Playmaking
Making the right plays in basketball
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Every basketball teamâ€&#x;s goal is to improve their skills or their game and play well. It is important that the team has confidence before they set foot on the floor or court.
How can the team achieve confidence? The answer is preparation. Through preparation, the team gains confidence. The team can prepare through practice. Practicing skills and team plays can make the team confident to face any situation that they should encounter in an actual game.
In making a basketball team play you need a diagram to represent the court or floor, some chips or a marker to place the positions of the players, who are given a specific number or color of chips. This is used to explain the flow of the play so the team players know how to act or where to go during specific team plays.
Extensive knowledge of the game is essential including the tactics and rules. In order to facilitate the discussion, everyone concerned should bear in mind that the strong side means that it is the side of the court where the basketball is and the weaker side is the one without the basketball.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
This is where names such as John Stockton, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash come into play. These are some of the most skilled basketball players in terms of playmaking.
While the coach is in charge of teaching how plays should be made, the point guard has the primary task to make sure that these are properly executed during the game.
As we discussed previously, Offensive Plays are used when the team has the possession of the ball. The focus of this play is to score. Plays of this kind increase the chances of the players, such as the point guard, to make the basket and score.
Examples of this play are 1-3-1 offensive plays, 1-4 formation offensive plays, zone formation offensive plays, triangle offense formation and man to man offense.
The offensive team that will do these offensive plays is composed of five players with corresponding titles and numbers: The point guard (1), the shooting guard (2), the forward guard (3), the power guard (4) and the center (5). The point guard directs the offensive play on the court.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
The shooting guard is the best outside shooter and usually takes the shot that allows the basketball to make the basket. He should know the right timing for scoring.
The small forward guard moves quickly and effectively and keeps the ball away from the defensive team. They can also drive to take a shot or do jump shots anywhere.
The power forward is the best inside shooter, which shoots well from underneath the basket or on its corners.
The center is the tallest member of the team and does the rebounds and plays with his back almost facing the basket all the time.
Defensive plays are used when they prevent the ball from making the basket by guarding the basket themselves and the players as well so that scoring won't be successful. The focus of this play is to prevent the other team from scoring by trying to steal the ball or disrupting the flow of play of the team that has ball possession.
This kind of play puts pressure on the players who have the ball thereby making them vulnerable. The defending team players use this situation to their
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
advantage and stop the ball from making it to the basket or making it possible to steal the ball from their hands. Examples of this play are the zone defense and the 2-3 zone defense.
Team players should possess certain characteristics when they are on the defensive play. Quickness is a quality that can be applied to the hands and feet. Swift movements are necessary to help defensive members steal the ball from the offensive team. Strong legs can be helpful in doing repetitive quick jumps. Focus on the game is necessary and they should always be aware since they will read and observe the offensive play so they can use it to their advantage.
This will help the defensive team members to react quickly and appropriately. Defensive team members should be flexible and able to do different kinds of defensive plays depending on the situation.
They should be able to apply defensive skills on both weak and strong sides of the court. Understanding of the strategies and concepts of the game helps them make right decisions based on the situation. Good communication is essential for teamwork because if they work together on the floor, the offensive team will have a difficult time scoring.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Practicing the basic basketball skills as well as the offensive and defensive plays helps a team prepare for a game. When you are prepared to face the battle during a basketball game, worries can be set aside and confidence is gained. These are the secrets to playing a good game and playing it right. Winning and being a champion is possible if these things are kept in mind.
Basketball Basics – Rebounding
Basketball Basics: Tips for Good Rebounding Basketball is indeed one of the most popular sports in the world. Through the years, the sport has created superstars and icons out of basketball players. Itâ€&#x;s no wonder many kids aspire to become professional basketball players.
Basketball is a very physical game. There is so much movement. To be able to make a good play, each basketball player is required to possess great physical stamina and agility to be able to perform and meet the requirements of the aggressive physical tactics in the game.
This sport has its own lingo. As we discussed earlier there are plays and specific tactics that have their own terms. Looking at the mechanics of the
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
game will also introduce you to many more special vocabulary terms, tactics and game technicalities.
Rebounding is one of those terms. The word actually refers to the act of gaining hold of the basketball after a free throw or a field goal.
When the basketball is shot to the basket, of course, it will fall back to the floor. That is when the two teams struggle to take possession of the basketball.
Rebounding is a very significant part of the game of basketball. Thatâ€&#x;s because this activity defines and rolls the game throughout the entire duration. A good player must be able to know the basics and some special techniques to be able to make good rebounding moves.
Letâ€&#x;s review what we learned earlier.
Rebounds can either be offensive or defensive. Observers and experts say that most rebounding tends to be on the defensive because usually, the defense team is in a better position or is often closer to the basket.
Thus, whenever there are missed shots, the defensive team can easily recover the basketball and try to shoot the ball again. If the ball goes to the offensive
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
team, then the defense will struggle to block the opposing player or recover the ball.
Characteristics of a good rebound player When playing basketball, it is advised that the player be physically fit. The agility, strength, speed and overall endurance of the body are required for a player to be able to meet the physical challenges of the game, particularly in rebounding.
But did you know that most basketball aficionados would say that aside from those attributes, the player must have good natural gifts and characteristics to be able to play good rebounds?
Yes, the above-mentioned characteristics can be acquired through enduring and patient training and workouts.
But rebounding will require physical attributes like height. Though many would argue against the notion that height would make a player more efficient in rebounding, observers would surely reach a consensus in agreement. If you are 6'11" in height, you have a great advantage over opponents that stand much less than your height.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Aside from those physical attributes, there are also other factors that could help a player produce awesome rebounds. A good rebound can be tied to the player's determination, aggressiveness and positioning.
If a player is determined to gain possession of the ball, he will do his best to reach that goal and focus while the game is at play.
Aggressiveness is needed to be physically assertive and to be able to take movement in gaining the basketball before opponents.
Lastly, positioning should be ideal. To be able to reach a good aim at rebounding, the player must move close to the basket. By doing so, the player will have greater chances of getting the basketball once it falls back to the ground after being thrown to the basket by another player.
Other tips to good rebounding Here are some other guidelines that would steer you towards great rebounds:
Acquire good jumping ability When players are in commotion to struggle to gain possession of the ball, usually, the one who jumps higher than the rest will take hold of the coveted ball. Train to flex and strengthen further the muscles of the legs and thighs.

Take a good position Estimate the projectile of the ball. A strong position also entails good rebounding.
Avoid abruptly dribbling the ball after you have successfully grabbed the basketball. Instead, go back and rebound and resume a position wherein you have a strong position relative to the basket.
Play your game well. Rebound and make things happen. Good luck and win the game!
Basketball Basics – Shooting
Basketball Basics: Shooting Basketball has made superstars out of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Shacquille O'Neal and many others.
It is no wonder that basketball is continuously catching the interest of more and more people, especially the younger ones. While football is still considered the most popular sports event on earth, the ability of basketball games to

catch and suspend breaths of sports fans around the world shouldn't be underestimated.
The game of basketball is all about competition between two opposing teams. Each team has to accumulate points by shooting the ball into the opponents basket. The more successful shots, the higher the points.
When looking at each game, it may seem that this activity is very easy. But experts and basketball players themselves would assert otherwise. Each player must strive harder to play the game better and help the team win the game.
Because basketball is all about shooting the ball into the basket, shooting is one of the most basic skills each basketball player must possess. Sure, there are many other aspects of the game, but so far, shooting is considered the most important because it is the way to accumulate points for the team.
Types of shooting Because shooting is a complicated move within the game, there are many types of shooting. Take note that players can throw the ball from a stationary position, while walking, while running, while jumping and so on. The ultimate goal is to shoot that ball where it should be—in the basket.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
One type of shooting is the easiest—the set shot. The set shot is usually observed when a player is shooting a 'free throw'. In this type of shot, the player is left standing on the floor and throwing the ball into the basket very comfortably from a specified range.
The jump shot is more challenging than the set shot. In this shooting technique, the player jumps high into the air to be able to rise above the opponents and take a better vision and range of the basket. The opponent will try to block the shot and may end up being thrown up or being knocked down to the floor.
However, during a jump shot, traveling violations may occur. That is when the player isn't able to release the ball immediately before his feet get back to the ground.
The layup is a shooting style when the basketball player moves along the court and throws up the ball to the basket. Layup is a shooting style wherein the player doesn't need to take a stationary position to throw the ball. The opponents are aiming to snatch the ball from the one holding it, so there is a struggle.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
And lastly, the most admired and sought-after shooting technique in every game is the slam dunk. Many stars have become icons because of their ability to perform a slam dunk during important games.
A slam dunk is a shooting technique wherein the player jumps toward the net, and directly throws the ball downward to shoot it into the hoop. When the player fails to shoot the ball into the basket during a slam dunk, it is an air ball, which isn't a violation of game rules.
How to attain good shooting skills
Because shooting is very essential in every basketball game, players should strive harder to acquire several shooting techniques and skills. Here are some very simple tips that will help you attain optimal shooting skills.
Attain proper body balance so you can aim to shoot the ball better and do your goal well.
Calculate the force to apply by your arms to the basketball when throwing the ball into the net. By acquiring the ability to estimate the range between you and the hoop, you can adjust the force to apply to the ball. The fingertips should also be well coordinated.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Basketball is a physical game, but you should also have mental agility. Concentrate on the game and focus well on your targets. Good focus will help you to shoot that ball into the target hoop.
Basketball wouldn't be basketball without shooting. Train and criticize yourself so you will be able to be a better player. It may be just be a game, but it is important to the competitive side of you. Good luck!
Basketball Basics - Shooting Drills
Basketball Basics: Shooting Drills If you are playing basketball, you want to excel. Who wouldn't want to be recognized as an outstanding basketball player?
The best players are never born; they are created. So how can you create a basketball star out of yourself? The answer is simple: Play it right.
To be able to play basketball really well, it is important that you spend considerable time and effort in game practices. Just like any other form of
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
sports, practice, along with strict discipline and proper attitude, are necessary to make you an excellent basketball player.
However, when attending basketball practices, experts notice and warn that there are so many players who aren't practicing their shooting skills correctly. Be informed that there are proper forms and moves in shooting.
That is why it would be helpful to you to spend time in practicing your shooting skills. There are several popular drills that would be helpful in attaining proper forms and moves when shooting the basketball to the bucket.
Some shooting drills
Proper attitude, determination and physical agility will be rendered futile if the basketball player doesn't practice some drills. Here are some of the well-known and widely adapted shooting drills that will help you attain the proper form and skills in shooting the basketball.
Bull's eye drill This shooting drill is aimed at helping the player further sharpen his focus and concentration when playing. It is said that players lack focus when they fail to shoot the ball during the game. This is the practice drill for such players.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
To be able to execute this drill, you will be required to use white athletic tape. Of course, the drill is executable in an actual basketball court. To do the drill, first, stick a piece of the white athletic tape on the front side, the side facing you, of the rim of the hoop.
You see that white tape? That will be your target. Now start throwing the ball into the bucket by targeting the white athletic tape. You are hitting the bull's eye when you are successfully hitting the target. This will train your eyesight and senses in shooting the ball.
The free throw drill This shooting drill is aimed at establishing your concentration and consistency in shooting the ball during a free throw. The process may seem too easy and less complicated, but during actual games, players complain that their focus is disrupted because of too much noise and other distractions coming from the audience and from the excitement of the game itself.
To perform the free throw drill, you must be on a basketball court. Stand on the free throw line and start shooting free throws. Dribble the basketball three times. As you dribble, say the word 'dribble'.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
After that, it is time to throw the ball into the hoop. Say 'throw' or 'set' or whatever word you want to use to associate with the activity. Before actually throwing the basketball, envision yourself all set to shoot the ball. Then, slowly raise your arms carrying the basketball, target the range and the rim and shoot.
If the goal isn't attained, do the drill several times. The aim of the drill is to instill the proper mental set and condition that will be associated to successful basketball throws.
The Westhead drill The Westhead drill is actually a mental drill in basketball shooting. This drill is aimed at enhancing muscle memory, or the muscle reflexes set on specific occasions and moves.
The drill is simple and challenging to execute. The first move will be to throw the basketball into the basket five times. Then, concentrate and envision five successful basketball throws in your mind.
Shoot the ball five times again, before pausing to close the eyes and picturing a good basketball throw in your mind. Throw the ball five times while the eyes
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
are closed. Then throw the basketball successfully for five times after the closed-eyes drill.
Take note that your muscles are becoming more and more conditioned to successfully throwing the basketball. After some time, you can modify the drill and do it while walking or running on the basketball court.
Basketball Basics – Footwork
Basketball Basics: Footwork
It is certainly fun watching basketball. But for players, the game isn't just fun. It is challenging.
There is lots of pressure that players undergo when they hit the court. They are of course committed to make the team win by accumulating more scores than the opponent. Aside from that, almost all players want to stand up to impress the viewing public.
In the tradition of superstars like Michael Jordan and Shacquille O'Neal, every basketball player dreams of being an icon in the sports arean. That is why almost all basketball secrets have been revealed.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
There are also more coaches, trainers and centers that offer to help players develop proper attitude and skills in playing basketball. Almost all mental and physical aspects of basketball playing have also been discussed and openly assimilated by players.
In this chapter we are going to discuss footwork
The footwork Strong footwork is considered one of the basic skills and characteristics a basketball player must possess to be able to become a good player. That is because everything else depends on the strength of the feet when playing.
Solid footwork is very necessary in executing basic basketball tasks and techniques like defense, rebounding, ball-handling, and many more. Basketball is a very physical game so without the solid foundation of the foot strength, you would easily end up being tripped at or knocked at the floor.
Because you basically run, jump, bend and walk during the basketball game, your footwork must be well built and planned. Further, during, before and after games, you are advised to take some flexing, relaxing and warming activities to condition your feet to become stronger for each game.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Footwork tips in basketball Because footwork is such an important aspect of playing basketball, here are some tips that will truly help you attain good footing while playing the arduous game of basketball.
Attain good body balance during the game. It is recommended that you keep the base support of your feet wide. How do you do this? Simply keep each of your feet at least a shoulder apart from each other. Bend your knees a little and keep your head just above the midpoint between the area covered by the feet. This position is said to provide your body with good overall balance. While standing inside the basketball court, practice having this physical balanced position.
Take a good pivoting point. A solid pivot is attained when the ball of the foot is planted firmly and solidly on the floor of the court. If you have a good pivoting position, you can easily turn and run to the left to right, or forward or backward. Good pivoting is essential for the best defensive strategies in the game.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Take quick pivots by planting the balls of your feet on the ground. Then, attain proper body balance. This way, you are sure to be ready for quick and abrupt pivot turns.
Footwork exercises Aside from the usual footwork drills, there are also several exercises that are simple enough and will help improve your footwork for both defensive and offensive tasks in playing basketball.
Here are some of them. As a form of exercise, bend the knees, take proper balance standing position by spreading the feet at shoulder width. Then, step sideways. Eventually, make the little steps either to the left or to the right turn into short runs. The sideway movements will help you attain good and firm footwork sideways.
Hop with just one leg forward from one side of the basketball court until you reach half of the court. Bring down the foot and use the other one as you hop forward to the other end of the court. This exercise targets the muscles of the thighs and knees, making up for firmer and stronger footwork.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Regular jogging and running exercises are proven to be effective in improving the footwork of basketball players. In the morning, or whenever there is time, jog around or run. It would also be advisable if you use a treadmill.
It would be impossible to play basketball if the strength of the feet isn't established. Because basketball is a very physical game, you should make sure your footwork is well practiced before the games.
Basketball Basics – Sweep
Basketball Basics: Sweep As you should know by now, basketball is a very exciting sport. There are numerous basketball stars and icons that have swept the basketball viewing public throughout the years. Each basketball team is also equally popular because they are the cradle of the basketball superstars.
The game of basketball is definitely a team effort. Basketball isn't played individually, but rather collectively. Each game is a team effort. In fact, in every game of basketball, no individual is declared the winner of the game. It is always the team.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Basketball players play the game excellently because they want to accrue scores not for themselves but for the team. However, there are awards and recognition given to players who have contributed greatly and accumulated points or scores throughout the game.
When fans rush to the basketball courts to flock basketball stars, they come to flock the team as well. A basketball superstar not only carries his name but also that of the team.
How are superstar basketball teams born? Well, they arenâ€&#x;t born but are created and a good track record is the key. And how is it attained? Simple: just by winning the most games.
The sweep There are many basketball tournaments and conferences in every country. There are those events that are held annually for a regular interval. During these games, often, there are mainstay teams that regularly play at the basketball event.
When a team wins for two or more consecutive years, it is termed in sports and basketball lingo as a 'sweep'. Thus, be it in the NBA or in whatever basketball tournament all over the world, the word 'sweep' is one of the sweetest and
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
most sought-after terms in the ever-growing and exciting basketball vocabulary.
For a team to complete a sweep, it should consistently hold its excellence. Consistency is one of the hardest concepts in basketball because it is hard to assure that a team will win every game.
There are hundreds or thousands of potential basketball superstars that are given big breaks every season. The competition is really tough. That is why teams also often modify its lineup so it can get the best and possibly the greatest players around.
Team effort is also hard to keep. It requires that all the team's members be cooperative enough to execute a good play strategy. That isn't easy to accomplish considering the humongous egos and attitudes of star basketball players.
For a team to make a sweep, it should strive harder to keep the good working and cooperative relationships between the team players. Failing to do so would result otherwise.
How a team could make a sweep
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
When you come to think of it, it would be easy to make a team run into a sweep in basketball tournaments. However, considering the individual efforts needed from each of the team players, it would be a truly big challenge to the coach and to the players as well.
Remember, good working and personal relationships within the team shows in the play. For a team to ensure a sweep, regular practices and rehearsals should be scheduled. The team should all be present during practices because that is the time each of them gets to bond. Rapport between the players is established.
Weaknesses and strengths of the players and team as a whole are also determined during practices. Thus, the training would be a good breeding ground to identify how each team player contributes to the welfare of the whole basketball team.
Consistency is essential. After winning a basketball game, the main goal of the team would then be to keep the winnings coming. When a team fails to keep its winning status, it fails to make a sweep, therefore, coming face to face with a nightmare.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
The moral support from the fans and supporters also contribute well. Take note that most of the popular basketball teams do well in every game whenever they see the trooping fans cheer for them, as if the game is a popularity contest.
Team players are motivated whenever they see cheerful fans support them.
Basketball is a very exciting game indeed. It sure is hard for a team to make a sweep but the effort certainly makes up for added excitement.
Basketball Basics - Mental Training
Mental Training in Basketball: The Driving Force in every Game
Most people tend to perceive basketball as a purely physical game. You can see that evidence everywhere: endless physical trainings to combat any bodily weaknesses; energy drinks and foods that focus on combating fatigue; clothes and shoes that give comfort during the game; etcetera, etcetera.
Perhaps, to add further proof, we can add in the basketball athletesâ€&#x; way of delivering the game itself. They thrust and drive and pivot and shoot—itâ€&#x;s all a perspiration-inducing game.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
But beyond all the physicality of the game, it would be wise to believe that mental preparation is also a necessity in this type of sport. Mental training isn't just for chess or sedentary mind games. In fact, it is equally as important as physical trainings.
You might be asking, how will you be able to incorporate mental training or any psychological preparation into each game? Itâ€&#x;s definitely not easy. The basic attitudes are persistence, perseverance and the will to finish any commitment. Just like physical training, the required mental trainings ask for competitiveness and the three attitudes just mentioned are essential.
0nce you are committed to do whatever it takes to gain the edge on your game, here are the most common techniques that mind experts (thatâ€&#x;s psychologists to you) advise you to do:
1.
Relaxation of the mind—this includes exercises that are similar to yoga
exercises where you relax your mind in spite of the distractions. The mind relaxation technique is voluntary and you should be able to calm your mind even if the dog outside is barking or when your roommate has just blasted on the TV. Concentration is the keyword in achieving this technique. This means
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
you should be able to control what you feel even if you have just gone through a stressful day at the office.
2.
The Will to change Unpleasant Attitudes—this is a must. To be able to
incorporate new ways into your game, you should be willing to give up your old ways. If there are many attitudes that get in the way of gaining a better game, then you must get rid of them for the sake of improvement.
Anger management is on this list. If you are the type that explodes at the smallest provocation, then it is high time to control this negative attitude and gear it towards having a controlled temper. If you are also the type that puts off routines and other necessary trainings until you tend to cram when the game draws near, then it‟s time to discipline yourself.
3.
Control of Energy—you will be better able to direct your strength
towards the achievement of a better basketball game.
4.
Have a Can Do Attitude—visualize yourself scoring more than you have
ever done. If you believe in yourself and the power that your mind is able to do, then you will start seeing results. Equipped with this newfound attitude towards the game (and life in general) and constant practice, then there is nowhere to go but up.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
5.
There was an interesting study on stress management called the Stress
Inoculation training. In this training, the basketball athletes were exposed to minimal, initial doses of stress until they gradually underwent heightened introduction of stresses. This study wanted to prove that immunity from stress might be achieved. Perhaps a good source of „stress‟ would be the rigors of basketball training itself. It‟s physically draining but in a good way.
6.
Attain a confident attitude—self-esteem is an integral part on any
basketball player‟s game. Once he has the confidence, all other techniques come easy.
7.
Love of the Game—work becomes work only if it stops being something
you enjoy. When an athlete starts to see the boring side of the game or when he fails to „feel‟ the game, then that‟s where failure creeps in. Shun basketball when you don't enjoy it—plain and simple.
There are so many techniques to basketball game improvement. But if you have read carefully, you will notice that it all boils down to one—you. When you know what you want and work hard to achieve it physically, nutritionally and mentally, then you are on your way to achieving success.

Basketball Plays
3 Proven and Tested Basketball Plays (and some Extras!) Are you a member of a basketball team that has recently suffered a string of losses? Are you starting to feel hopeless and are considering quitting altogether? Don‟t lose hope. If your basketball coach is scrambling for a play that would be guaranteed to work on your upcoming game, then be his pet by introducing these time-tested basketball plays that will surely be scores when executed correctly:
·
The Triangle Offense
1.
On this offense, two players take the post positions. They three players
distribute themselves on the side wings, point guard and corner positions. The post player would be the apex of the triangle as well as the corner man and the wing man. Whoever obtains the ball at the strong-side of the wing would be the play‟s triggerman. Being the triggerman, he will determine what the result of the play.
2.
The players who hold the post position should now stay at the elbows.
The point guard will then go to the mid-circle bottom. When this happens, the
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
point position players will down pick two players. When this happens, there should be an open pass in the wing area.
3.
When the triangle offense is played with precision, what should be
achieved is an easy open shot.
·
The Out of Bounds Play
1.
Pinpoint a specific „passer‟ that will handle the ball and pass it to a player
who can openly shoot the ball. The success of the play will depend on this passer, although his position or size isn't the main aspect to consider. Anybody who can do a „dual trick‟ will do. And what is a dual trick? First, the chosen passer should pretend to go on the offense. Once the opponent buys the trick, the passer should execute, at a perfect timing, a move that will misdirect the opponent. When this becomes a success, the passer will be able to give the ball to any available player who can shoot the ball freely.
2.
Your team should be familiar with this move before it is done on the
court. When any one member of the team is unsure of the participation they will contribute, then confusion creeps in and down goes the play.
·
The Flex Offense (Man to Man Offense)
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
1.
This offensive move is believed to be the most widely used offense in
basketball history. There are several ways of executing this easy but highly effective move. One way of doing it is through the stack entry. At the start of the play, the players come in a stack.
2.
The guard then chooses a side where he can go to the elbow. The
forward should prepare himself to receive the ball while the guard is out doing this.
3.
The center then moves to the three-point lane. On the other side,
another player should do this move, too.
4.
The guard then passes the ball to the teamâ€&#x;s forward as the center
flashes above the screen that has been previously set.
5.
After the screen has been set, one guard should set a screen for his
fellow guard.
6.
The forward then passes the ball to the center (who should make sure
that he showed his hand prior to the move) after the screen has been established.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
7.
The elbow should be the forward playerâ€&#x;s destination after this pass, with
the guard running to the rainbow area.
8.
One center player should set the screen for the other center to take.
9.
All you need now is practice and repetitions.
Here is a short list of other famous plays that you can research online. Remember that there are even some websites that feature animated plays so it will be easier for you to execute the moves:
The Man Defense The Defense Press The Match-up Defense The Motion Special The Press Offense The Late Game Plays
There are many ways of improving your teamâ€&#x;s output. These famous plays are just some of them. Once you master each technique and execute them in

precision, you will start to see an improvement—not only your team‟s scoring but more so on your level of discipline. That‟s a guarantee.
High School and College Basketball
High School Basketball: Your Stepping Stone to a College Basketball Scholarship
There have been countless films on playing high school basketball and by doing this, the lead actor has landed a college scholarship. This isn't just a Hollywood make-believe event. It can happen even to an unknown athlete in your school—or it could happen to you.
When you believe that you were born to fulfill your destiny as a basketball star and that most of your time in high school was spent in trainings and basketball games, then you are on step one.
As a high school basketball player, it is important for you to be noticed not only by the swooning girls but also, your basketball coach. He may be able to make the recommendations that you need to land a college basketball scholarship. Although this isn't a guarantee, it pays to do well in every training or game and to stand out.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Your high school basketball coach might not know coaches of different colleges so it is also highly advised that high school players make themselves known to them. Unless you play like Michael Jordan, then you have to be able to sell your skills to these coaches. Make them notice you. Donâ€&#x;t wait for any college basketball coach to recruit you. You must confidently submit a resume or profile of your personal basketball history and let your track record be tangible proof for them.
The next rule is probably one of the most important things that any high school basketball player needs to know—and that is to achieve good grades. Although basketball may be unrelated to language proficiency or mathematics, the fact remains that most colleges that offer basketball scholarships will want their applicants to have outstanding grades.
What do these grades prove? They tend to prove that despite the rigors of trainings and games, the player remains disciplined to finish other tasks. The grades will also mirror how well you balance your time on different endeavors. So the next time you start thinking that your English grade means nothing to your college basketball scholarship, think again.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
Generally in the United States, athletic scholarship applications are best done right after high school graduation. The standing rule for age is 18-24 years old. The great news in the U.S. is that, there are a booming number of colleges and universities that offer scholarships.
You have a lot of choices so take your pick and start sending your resume to some of the colleges that you like.
Participate in ranking tournaments and give each one of these games your best shot. When you are ranked high, of course, the chances of getting a good scholarship will be greater compared with mediocrity in regional or national ranking.
To be able to land an athletic scholarship, you should understand the sophisticated processes of recruitment. You just donâ€&#x;t go about telling every college basketball coach you meet that you can play the game. Know which colleges you want and be able to impress that you can play basketball on a non-neophyte level. Promote your skills and sell your talents.
Behave yourself. Basketball coaches want to work with an individual who has a clean track record and whom they can mold into the athlete that they
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
envision. If you have a smeared record, chances are, coaches might shun away from meeting you.
When you have finally decided which college will be able to offer you the best scholarship, begin processing not just your resume but also other important credentials such as transcript, your ACT and SAT scores, samples of completed work (in short, your portfolio). These are just some of the necessities so itâ€&#x;s important for you to ask your chosen collegeâ€&#x;s specific requirements. There are, of course, different requirements for different colleges.
There are many hurdles to overcome to achieve an athletic scholarship. The requirements include a lot of physical and mental preparation. If you believe you have what it takes to succeed, then you have already succeeded.
So You Want to Go Pro?
High School Player to Basketball Pro in a Few Steps
The stakes are high before anyone from high school can get an acceptance from any college that offers athletic scholarships. The road to that much-sought-after scholarship is definitely spiky. The basketball game, alone, requires physical stamina and mental endurance.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
When those are established, there are more to conquer such as the college application, finalizing your portfolio (resume with completed works attached), and knowing which college coach to approach and to sell your skills.
Once you have landed a scholarship and you start to fulfill your childhood dream, then you might begin to feel that school basketball is no longer sufficient to satiate your aching for the professional basketball league. If you have decided to go pro and believe that you can, then read these time-tested guidelines that will surely make you the next „talk of the townâ€&#x;:
1.
Be committed. Once you feel that you have the talent to become a
professional basketball player, then commit yourself. Don't chicken out at the slightest sign of obstacles (because there will be many).
2.
It is imperative for you to be on top of your game at all times. Make the
impression that you are a go-getter and that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to. Prepare yourself physically. In terms of endurance, if you are able to run a mile, then do two. Double your efforts and the results will be doubled as well.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
3.
Impress your coach. He will be able to back you up on any applications
that you make. When he is assured that he has a key player on his team, he might be able to make recommendations. If not, at least the word will get around that a certain player performs each game like it is the last game of his life.
4.
Professional basketball is a form of employment and, thus, a career. If
you have submitted your best resumes for the college athletic scholarship, then itâ€&#x;s a must to submit something more than your best. Highlight the skills that make you an asset to the professional team (examples are your statistics, newspaper articles that were written about you or your team, proof of game programs, etc.). Express your desire to enter the professional league by adding a cover letter. Make sure that the complete application papers are forwarded ahead of schedule.
5.
Since professional basketball doesn't require licensing, time and again,
the importance of getting good grades is reiterated. Most professional leagues require their players to have graduated from college or be nearing graduation. Graduating students should graduate within the prescribed calendar year. If not, some leagues are able to take in high school graduates. To add to that, they not only require mere graduates but graduates who made good grades.
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
6.
Develop a professional attitude. Learn punctuality and self-discipline in
all matters. Also, know how to bridle your anger. The slightest provocation could send you home and deprive you of the chance to earn $25,000-$20 million every year. Be sure that you are emotionally mature enough to take the rigors of the job.
7.
Apply as early as when you are 20 years of age. In NBA, for instance,
they will require you to have graduated from high school at least two years prior to the recruitment process.
8.
Prepare to be homesick. Most professional basketball players have to
travel (very far away) from their home so psyche yourself to be tough in all circumstances. Success will only come to those who are willing to sacrifice something in return.
9.
Get yourself an agent that will serve as your counselor. These agents
will further your basketball career by helping you connect to the right people in the industry. If you are one of those players who gets called from agents without even asking for one, then you are mightily blessed.
10.
When you are retired, what will you do? You have to have a buffer career
for your retirement years. If you can, establish a business and a sizeable
Want a Great Night of Basketball Action http://predators-schedule.creative-elearning.net/2012/magic-schedule/
savings. Know that there is life beyond the basketball court and that you will inevitably live that.
