One year has gone by in the pandemic haze…

March once again…

March 2020 was the month when the world virtually stopped spinning, and instead began a slow crawl around its axis that made time stand still. One year has gone by in the haze of the pandemic that took hold of our lives and livelihoods, blurred the lines between homes, schools and offices, restructured family life, restricted all social movement, in other words transformed our very existence and life as we knew it. We saw the best of humanity and the worst of humanity. We saw tolerance and compassion, and we saw nastiness and meanness. There were riots, witch-hunts, trials by media, and there was beauty and creativity that blossomed in unexpected ways. There was a return to the simpler life, an appreciation of the small joys, the little things that make a big difference. The last 365 days ordeal laid bare the complex warp and weft that make up the fabric of human behaviour, the intrigues of the mind and its machinations, its many triggers and multifarious fallouts. Now it’s March again, and the year is 2021. But life has yet to come full circle. The vaccine has arrived amidst trepidation. It’s a call to the intrepid now to step forward and take the jab. There’s hope, waiting to happen.
