Ingredients Quantity

Banana leaves – 150 gm Toor dal – 75 gm Gingelly oil – 2 tbsp Small onion – 75 gm Peeled Garlic – 20 gm Green chilli – 3 nos Tamarind – 10 gm Grated coconut – 75 gm Curry leaves – 1 sprig Salt – to taste Asafetida – a pinch

Method:

• Wash the banana leaves and roughly chop it. • Heat gingelly oil, add toor dal, sauté well • Add garlic and green chilies and curry leaves and allow it to cook well. • Add small onion and sauté well • Now add banana leaves , sauté well • Now add tamarind and grated coconut, Sauté well • Add salt and a pinch of asafetida. • Cool it then grind it to a rough paste like thuvayal consistency. • Serve with steamed rice , Idli, dosa and Idiappam.
